  • Bought this 2002 Honda Recon 250 last week for $600, during the last video, we got it running and managed a sketchy ride. For this video, we will replace the broken throttle, and install a new recoil starter, a new seat, and a new air cleaner. I found a gas tank cover on eBay, so, that will be installed also. My goal has been to create a reliable ATV for daily use and I believe all my bench marks have been achieved! This 4 wheeler starts easily with both the electric and recoil starters, it runs well, transmission shifts properly, and it romps like new!

    My first new quad was a 02 honda recon I remember Christmas mrn going in the living room seeing those honda keys hanging on the tree lol me and my brother rode that thing everywhere for years until we got grown and moved out on our own it still sitting in my dads garage might have to bring it back to life someday

      I have a 02 it was my dad's he bought it when he was around 15 he didn't bye it new though but it was close to new and it has been flipped atlest 50 times 😂 and crashed no telling how many times and has a hole lot of hours on it and still runs good all we have had to do to it is replac baring started switch well recently the starter went out clean carburetor wich is not hard I do it every year. Replace brakes Replace 1 sterling rod we broke it😂 Replace rear stering baring. Oh and shift sensors which tells it its ok to shift on the electric shift molds keeps unexpected people from messing up the transmission 😂 that a very easy fix though 2 bolts and 11$. And tires 😂 only 1s though we have had these 24" itps mudd tires on their for 15 years they have ok tred on them the dry rotted pretty bad and did leak but we put that green slime stuff in there are fixed that. Those tires where 200$ A piece but they are really good tires though why better than stock. I have a few videos of this honda recon on my channel u can check it out

    My old '01 recon still runs... for the most part. I've been taking it on longer runs on country roads. Usually around mile 5, I start losing power, and the engine starts to backfire. The engine cuts out after sputtering to a stop, and won't start unless the choke is pulled all the way. When I take it back home, it has a bit of sputtering still, but will stay on while idling. it kind of sounds like the carb, but I'm no expert. Oh and it cold starts great. Like, first time, every time. But if the choke is pulled, it won't. Any thoughts?
    I just changed out the air filter, and when I found it, it was shredded and wet. The first time it had this problem on a run was when I found the air filter in that condition. New filter looks fine on it.

    Great fix and a great ride on top of that. Honda is the only manufacturer that you can buy a bunch of their seats for a $100 . Well worth the time and effort on this project, mine never go as planned and over the years trading labor for help has gotten tougher. Just picked up Moose plow #5 to put on the market as soon as the first dusting of snow makes an appearance. Scrounged up an 8in. tube, and a pair of 3 lug Yamaha rims for the DX225 out of my milk house. Recovered a 4trax 300 seat that was chewed on by some horses, with a camo cover that almost feels like denim, in between shooting coats of metallic black paint on the rims. Depending on the dryer, about 4 to 5 minutes should loosen up the fabric on most seat covers but I would spare the towels until you know what the cover is made of and where it comes from! It's always a great lesson when I've done or understand the entire process. I wish you the best, I'll stay tuned, and keep them rolling Harvey.

    I guess my earlier assesment of this machine was probably wrong. It turned out pretty decent. That flat black annoys me so much. It makes it look so bad. I think that is the fastest I've ever seen you go across the yard. 😁 You saved another 4 wheeler. Good job!

    Well I think that an enjoyable ATV is priceless ! Would I spend $755 on one YES ! Would I let someone other then family use it NO ! You enjoy it so my vote is YES ITS WORTH IT ! I still would love to see ALL of your wheelers in a row and ALL of your golf carts in a row and ALL of your lawnmowers in a row ! I think that would look amazing ! I know you have a good memory and all but get some tags with wire on them and label what it needs and what has been done to it for future reference ! I do that on all of my outboards ( I only have 40 ) I also have 1 note book for maintenance on all of my motors and vehicles ! Sure helps me keep organized ! Lol

      Btw u can't hardly kill those 4 wheelers we have flipped ours about 50 times abused the crap out of it and it holds up great and it has a ton of hours on it and still runs and drives great and we go in the mud pritty often we have had to replace baring a few times that's 1 thing the mud really gets

    Any help would be very helpful. I tried to switch to the stator that came with the wiring kit but the holes dont line up and the pulse generator wouldnt work on the flywheel so I'm stuck with stock.

    If you are trying to repair a honda 300 fourtrax, 88-2000, it only takes 200 dollars at most to replace the carb and all harness components.
    Extensive troubleshooting eliminated. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!
    OEM PARTS ARE A MUTE POINT NOW.

  • @oneshot1984
    @oneshot1984 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Using Chinese parts is the same as shooting yourself in the foot.....its always a bad idea......OEM Honda is the only way to go

    Sometimes this is so painful to watch. An experienced mechanic that is resistant to new and better ways of doing things. "WATCH ME, BUT I WILL NOT DO THE SAME ".
    BOOMERS EQUALS MASS HYPOCRISY. ITS UNBELIEVABLE.

  • @twintwo1429
    @twintwo1429 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Forget the crap about proper repair, and educate yourself on what really works. There are many AFTERMARKET parts and JERRY RIG repairs that will last longer than OEM BULLSHIT.
