I bought a Boucher SG41, last week (Spruce top, mahogany sides and back) I have a D28, a Taylor and a handmade guitar that don't come close to the quality of sound that this instrument has! This young company has changed the idea of what a good guitar is! World class!!!
I've said it before but will say it again. Boucher is the only guitar maker on par with Collings in build quality. My Boucher is literally perfect. The finish is pristine, the fret work is stunning and the sound is very, very good. If I could change one thing, I think Boucher should cut their nut slots just a tad deeper but that's an easy fix. More people need to know about these and buy them.
Agreed. I have a Collings SJ that I don’t use as often as my OM (like the one featured here except with Madagascar back). Nothing like Boucher quality out there.
Probably the best OM I've ever heard in terms of chord strumming. Most OM's seem like they're made only for fingerstyle and get a bit muddied up when strumming chords. This one has a beautiful tone!
I've had my mind made up on a Santa Cruz triple-000 for sometime in the future, but having discovered Bouchet guitars they are making me rethink that course of action. Every Bouchet video you've done Jeremy (and others on TH-cam) have featured just incredibly warm, deep, dare I say elegant, guitars that really speak to me. Thanks for the review.
Great video Jeremy...keep spreading the word on Boucher...they truly are great guitars. I had an OM with a torrefied top and bubinga b&s and it was my #1 guitar for about 2 years before I started playing around with my little collection of guitars. Still miss it though!
Just bought one.Love it. As a side note, I have owned high end brazilian rosewood guitar (Bourgeois) and I prefer the warmer sound of Indian rosewood.. This is a fantastic guitar.
I recently bought an SG-41G (the mahogany twin of the SG-51). It's extraordinarily playable and musically magical - I love it!. Also has maple binding and a K&K pick-up. Boucher's are much easier to find here in Canada where we're blessed with 38 retail dealers, whereas the US has just 7 currently - one more than Switzerland!
Beautiful guitar for sure. I played a bluegrass goose a few months back. Nice sounding guitar, but my HD-28 sounds better to me. And the bluegrass goose is almost double in price! I'll have to stick with my Martin's. To me it's hard to beat the sound of a good Martin!
my opinion only...the Bluegrass Goose is far from vintage sounding. it is very modern sounding. As such I do not think it makes a great bluegrass guitar. But they are great sounding fingerstyle guitars
I have just bought a Boucher SG-51 M after seeing your video because I liked what I heard and trust your opinion. Just under 48 hours after arrival the guitar has transformed quite a lot. It now has a warm tone with an almost slightly overwhelming bass. What surprised me is that it is very fundamental tone and almost dry like a collings om2h traditional or a martin om 28 modern deluxe i tried a while back. Is this your experience as well? I for some reason expected boucher to be alot like furch or goodall (rich overtones, somewhat brighter, ...)
IVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE ACTUALLY WANTING A STICKY SATIN NECK!?!? I need to be able to go up and down and that satin neck on the Bouchers reminds me of Taylor's playability. I have a CS Martin and got the luthier to sand the neck down to be less sticky, Ive just never heard of anyone liking a gloss neck??? lol, love Boucher tho, thanks for the content Jeremy!
I love the gloss necks on my guitars that got em (about half of them do). But I know plenty of people who agree with you and can understand how a sticky neck could put you off. I always wash my hands before playing my guitars, which I think has helped prevent mine from getting gummy.
Honduran and/or Madagascar rosewoods both run a real "hot 2nd" to Brazilian. Very similar tone. And many of the great guitar builders claim that Honduran rosewood in particular, is actually more durable & stable vs Brazilian. I've also heard that both Honduran & Madagascar are becoming harder to source, and both may very well be protected soon & added to the CITES list. This will cause current stocks to go up in demand & cost. Both are already much more expensive than east Indian rosewood. Design & build quality is always the most important factor in acoustic guitars, but with all being equal, Honduran and Madagascar does have a tonal & projection advantage over east Indian rosewood. I currently own 3 Hsienmo acoustics. 1 has solid east Indian rosewood back & sides, while the other 2 have solid Honduran back & sides........and both with the Honduran totally eclipse the Indian for tone, sustain, and sound projection. And yes, they do have 5A Adirondack tops.

Courmier is biased against Martin guitars and would choose any guitar over a Martin, especially a Canadian guitar. The Boucher’s are great guitsrs but I’d prefer not to start off with bias.
70’s Martins are inexpensive because the quality control for Martin was the lowest in their history! If you can find a 70’s Martin that has had the intonation fixed and possibly the bridge plate replaced then they can be a relative bargain. But you can do better. Get a late ‘90’s or a 2000’s Martin! You won’t get as much wood aging but Martin is building great guitars now, especially in the traditional line. They've had glue problems in their bindings only and this has been resolved. This was caused by the DER in the State of PA who wasn’t allowing them to use the same glue everyone uses from what I’m told here in PA, but the problem has been resolved. It didn’t affect structural integrity and most were unaffected. I’ve had dozens of Martins and the only ones I had problems with were 70’s Martins. I had a 70’s D-18 that had bad intonation and a D-35 that was the same but also the e string was too close to the edge. I sold it. It was used and I didn’t know what I was getting in to. So, unless you have it checked by a qualified luthier, steer clear of 70’s Martins! Fortunately, they woke up and recovered but the only poor quality period of Martin is the 70’s!
BGs have higher action than SGs. Vintage pack squares the headstock and open back tuners. Gold pack gives you gold tuners. Both packs also torrify the top, artificially aging them.
This guy is just doing paid adverts ... I used to like it when he was actually hunting and buying second hand guitars Very informative . But I'm not going to trust him as he endorses every paid Guitar company ..just because he says he is being honest Shame really

It has piano like qualities to the notes. Can't get much more defined notes. Although I heard Wilborn Guitars and they are cannons.
