  • I visited the world famous Jack Brown's seaplane base and flew their Icon A5 for an hour with their Icon certified instructor. The A5 isn't available for rent at many places, so I had to take the opportunity to try it. Otherwise I would have loved to fly any of the Cubs.

So cool. I had Jo as my instructor at Jack Browns with the A5 for my Commercial ASES. Passed Checkride with Ben 2/1/2023 :)

I get MOGAS fuel in Winter Haven for my LSA but I didn’t know they had an A5 there. I’d love to take it for a spin for an hour. Thanks for sharing.

That's a question for Paul, the commenter below, I believe he works for Icon.

Hey Villiam -- ICON is primarily selling the A5 in the domestic U.S. at the moment, with plans to expand our distribution network in 2023 to Europe and across the globe.

ICON has their Type Certification for sales in Europe now. Contact Sales and ask for the European Rep Jake.

I heard it was 3,500$ safety payment to fly the A5.

That wasn't the case when I flew it. It was just an hourly rate with a CFI. Dual only.

      You use them during landings.

Yes, traditionally full flaps are used during water landing and water takeoff/step taxi. Flaps are not required in standard conditions when landing or taking off on conventional land runway.

That first landing bounce go around was bad if there was an instructor they would have taken over before the bounce or advised to fast for landing you are lucky no hull damage. There has been an ICON A5 that cracked up and sank. 🙆‍♂️🙆‍♂️🙆‍♂️

      Yeah, it wasn't that bad.
