    Awesome video!!!! I live in the area and truly enjoy the Guadalupe mountains inside the cave and across the mountain tops. Have hiked many miles and seen some wonderful sights in the back country as well. BLM land is so accommodating and we are fortunate to have it available. Welcome to our state and be sure to come back.

      There are cave paintings throughout the mountains that are amazing to see. I located one set in particular that a university from Arizona dated back to the basket weaver tribes that were here 1500 to 2000 years ago. Be safe in your travels keep up the good work and amazing videos.

    We did that Guadalupe/Carlsbad visit a month ago and loved it. One really important feature that Carlsbad has is an air conditioned kennel. It gets HOT there and while people are down in the cave for 4+ hours in cool, dark cave, their dogs can be comfy and safe for a small fee. I boarded my cat there on one visit. Remember to bring the pet vaccination records, they won't take an animal without it. The last thing they want at Carlsbad is a case of rabies onsite. They are so super careful about visitors not bringing in the bacteria and fungus that will spread to bats, you can't even wear shoes you have worn in other caves.

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for all the information on the kennel. We left Maggie in the van with the AC running, one of things we love about the van. But that is a really nice service they provide for pet owners.

    Did the caverns last October after the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta ( must do at least once ) . Amazing, but wouldn't do the natural entrance again . We'd take the elevator and spend more time in the meat and potatoes area where the elevators drop you off. We couldn't get a spot at the Guadeloupe Mountains campgrounds. Some parks allow(used to ?) Overflow camping in their parking lots for self contained R.V's.. We stayed at the picnic area just over the Guadeloupe pass. Great spot once the highway calmed down. No traffic at night.

Its near the Ghost Ranch and a must is the drive to the "Monastery in the Desert" ... It down a 13-15 mile dirt road .. Beautiful ride with a campground on the way in .. Thank you for this video. It looked like it was a long walk down t through the caverns but looked fun but tiring after a while. Hope you had fun. How did you like the other park in Texas Guadalupe I think it was. Your chicken Parmesan looked good. I like veal too. But you can’t find veal too much out in Vegas. I love veal cutlets. We used to eat them a lot back home in Michigan.

    Good morning and Happy Easter. Do you happen to know where you found the heavy duty metal tongs with the wooden handles you used for flipping the chicken in this video? We have a few pair just like them and use them for cooking but also use one to stack or move charcoal around when using our Dutch Ovens. Anyway, we bought our tongs years ago - no idea where - and they are aging quickly. We’ve been looking for replacements with no luck. I’m not sure we could recommend the soap dispenser because we could never get it to stay on the wall. We cleaned the walls really good and used several types of tape and command strips and nothing seamed to work. I did like not have to carry shampoo and soap into the shower since there is not a great place to put it except on the toilet and it always seems to fall off from there.

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your driving everyday the batteries are good, but if not we do have to watch it closely. We can last several days without starting the engine and not running the AC, but that’s about it. No issues traveling with Maggie except the normal not leaving her for long periods of time… so shorter hikes. But she’s a great traveling companion.

    Enjoyed your video! You might be interested to know that, in the area surrounding Carlsbad Caverns, there are some one hundred "wild caves". including one that is considerably bigger and deeper than Carlsbad Caverns. But these "wild caves" are not open to the public; they are gated shut.
    Let me ask you something. The night you stayed on BLM land ... was that just off Highway 62/180, to the east, between the Texas border and Whites City? Does that BLM area have a name? If not, is there a road sign that identifies it at the entrance? I look forward to your next video.

    Thanks so much! We are heading out west in the fall with our dog. What do you do in your van to keep Maggie comfortable? I'm thinking of subscribing to Waggle for temperature monitoring but if you dont have cell service, that won't work. Also I know a lot of trails do not allow dogs.

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We had “Waggles” for a couple of years, but there were so many times we didn’t have cell service that we ended up letting it go. But, when it did work it was a great peace of mind. With our van we are able to run the AC for a least 4+ hours on hot days. You are correct that most National Parks do not allow dogs on their trails, therefore we have to take shorter hikes in the morning or evening hours. Even with the AC running we hate to leave Maggie for long periods of times, which means we have to pass on some of the trails we would really like to hike, but she’s worth it. We also have also use extra fans to keep the van cooler, also covering the windows help too, but Maggie loves to look out the window so we usually don’t put the side ones up. Parking in the shade when possible is also good. I hope some of these ideas help.

    Thanks for bringing back a memory from my childhood when my family took an extended trip out west and included a stop at Carlsbad Caverns. It was in 1959, I think. I remember walking down the paved walkway into the cavern and walking for what seemed like miles. The tour guide/park ranger turned off the lights (after warning us to stay put!) and instantly we were plunged into the blackest black I’d ever experienced. We were very grateful when he turned the lights back on! We made a stop somewhere deep in the cavern at a humongous cafeteria where we ate a boxed lunch. Then we rode an elevator back up top that took just seconds to go the distance that we took quite a while to cover on the way down. It was a pleasant memory and I’m glad you got the chance to add that to your memory book, too! Looking forward to your next chapter from the road. Bye bye from NW Florida
