Outstanding work and retrospective! My South Shore Line is a 4x8 that has kept me excited for a decade. So much more I too can do with my small layout. Thanks for all your inspiration. Happy 4th! Scott
Thanks Scott and I've got to say - the bits of footage I've seen of your layout justify that decade of excitement. I've spent time studying what you posted and it's really impressive.
Thanks for your incredibly kind comments. Like you I have learned a lot and have a long list of improvements, revisions, expansion ideas and more detailing! Just need time to actually work consistently on the layout. Have a great 4th!

However I also take Boomer's advice about avoiding burnout in a hobby by pushing too hard at it for extraneous or arbitrary reasons. I find it totally acceptable for a hobby to be just that, and to work at a pace that offers gratification and enjoyment.
Yeah totally makes sense. Pele came up around the same time as Tortoise, they were sort of Milwaukee's answer to what grew out of the Chicago/Louisville post-punk scene. I play them a fair bit at home, awesome stuff.
@@ChicagoCrossingRR Thank you for your reply and Happy 4th to you. If you happen to know how to make a N scale soda bottle, please teach me how. I’ve been trying to scratch building them but no success. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work.
@@TheClosetBranch that's a real stumper. 3D printing would be my answer but I've not actually seen anyone do that in 1:160, scratch or otherwise. Maybe we just should assume everyone drinks from cans in our minature worlds.
Again, thanks for sharing. I REALLY like the petro-chemical facility plant. The configuration, the colors, the weathering and where it sits close to the main line. A lot of things are interesting on your layout but that one plant is on top of the list. Keep on your good work. You're truly talented for a N scale modeler !
"Glass Museum" and "Cornpone Brunch" respectively, recorded in the mid '90s by Tortoise. Where copyright allows I use music that came out of Chicago during the time period of the layout :)
Very nice bit of time travel! And I intend to steal "slow-motion art project" -- it's the perfect description of how I think about my own layout, which is similar to yours in size and theme.
The mirrored front windows in the neighborhood in 2020 are a great detail for a street with small businesses I've been looking at doing. I'm enjoying digging through these videos this week looking at your layout. You really captured something here.
Thanks Jeff - the point about a mirror is really interesting. I was looking back at the photos and what you see there is actually just the scenery behind what was then a couple of building facades with no rear to them :) However, I thought the same as you - it could be an interesting idea to simply use reflective material in those windows.
“Model railroads are slow motion art projects”. Fantastic way of looking at a layout especially a smaller one where being “done” is a possibility.
Thanks Keegan, it's been a helpful perspective to keep up motivation and challenge my skills within the constraints of my little basement model.

@@ChicagoCrossingRR Agree with you both on that!
Great work! Love the music too, reminds me of the band Pele.

Everything looks so good, such an amazing layout. The track, buildings, vehicles... everything is beautifully weathered and looks perfect. Great work!
Thanks Steve, much appreciated! Also loved seeing the Metra and CNW 400 on your last June layout video!
The most wonderful modeling on Chicago area scenery I've ever seen. Your talent for using colors are just stunning!
Thanks, really appreciate it! Within the next four years I hope to have as much identifiable garbage on there as you've got on your layout.

Thanks Luc. The plant is a real work in progress but will be fun to finally get into in detail!
Awesome overview! I like those particular background tunes.

Thanks much! Glad you enjoyed.
Stunning layout but I has to leave early... the music overloaded me.
Sorry to hear - thanks for visiting!
