Thanks Scott. Finkl will be a ton of fun. The goal is to replace the walthers structures with some scratchbuilt versions of the prototype mill buildings . EAF lighting effects are kind of the icing on top, though probably not for a while - first things first, lots of playing with sheet styrene!
Love the content. Your attention to detail is awesome! I just returned from a trip to your beautiful city over the weekend. Took the train (Amtrak Wolverine from Royal Oak, MI)...Got to see a lot of the railroading happening in that part of the city and beyond.

The scenic divider is a really smart way to allow your trains to 'go' somewhere in a small space. Hope you post a new update soon!

Awesome - glad you appreciate the music! Few things are more Chicago to me than mid-to-late 90's stuff from Thrill Jockey Records. I spent a lot of time digging through record stores back when bands' vinyl releases were actually cheaper than CDs.

@@ChicagoCrossingRRThe thing I noticed was your passenger platforms tucked away back there, and I got a better look at your residential area from overhead which is a great feature in there to break up the industry. This layout is one of my YT favorites and I refer back pretty often to it.
Great video and outstanding detail modeling as always. Had to chuckle when you corrected yourself on “Commercial Avenue” because possibly only you and I knew what was correct! A great detail would be a green CTA bus sign pole by the currency exchange. Have a great weekend! Scott

If my memory serves me, there was a junkyard on one corner & a church on the other. That row is more like 93rd & commercial. I want to say there was a restaurant, Roma's, that really resembles what your currency exchange building looks like. Hope u get ur dcc power supply soon!
Oh, you're real close! There was a small hot dog stand on 94th & commercial, under the skyway, if I remember right. Jeez, it's been 30 or 40 years since I've been down that way
@@yamo1226 yeah just had another look at that intersection. Aside from the big bakery and the fact that Commercial sort of T's off because of it, not too bad a representation. It would put the church and the junkyard sort of where the viewer is standing on the layout.

I'm going on old memory..lol. in the 90's there wasn't a bakery, the west side of commercial was houses(2 flats) & the east side was the boneyard & church. For some reason, I want to say that the roma restaurant had a turret with an angled entrance, which brought back memories of 93rd st
Thanks Gary, it's a great reminder of how many times Toronto has been used to represent Chicago in different movies. I remember my first visit there and thinking how similar the two cities looked, particularly in the neighborhoods outside of downtown.

Would enjoy sharing my Walthers EAF project with you. Have pics detailing hardware and a video showing the 23-neopixel lighting effects with sound. Going to add two more lighting effects before final assembly and painting: 1) Sound-actuated "huge flashes" inside furnace corresponding max electrode currents 2) Corresponding to above, control panel light changes (green, yellow, red) using very thin fiber optics All the parts and methodology ready ... just waiting for Cleveland snow to put me in workshop! Will need to figure out a method or way to share ... all the best!!! @@ChicagoCrossingRR
Garbage cans and paper machines are some nice little details…dust collectors too…all in the details 😊…not familiar with the steel industry…will take your word on all of it…
Ha, thanks! The steel mill I'm modeling was smack in the middle of an old neighborhood and they used to let passersby watch the process from the sidewalks. I learned a little then (mostly that it was loud and hot), nowadays there's a lot of interesting info that put it all into context :)
DCC power supply is dead ? Proof that diesel locomotives are more trustworthy on a layout than electric 😂😅😊 Don´t wait for Santa to put an other one under the tree....
@@ChicagoCrossingRRyou´re too good on N scale. Now you need real challenge. T scale´s for you. As half Z scale size, imagine what you could do on a 3 X 7....they already made a decent F unit...for your Metra commuter....
@@danielfantino1714 I'd love to get a Z-scale layout up and running. I don't see many videos of folks doing scale-speed operations (not sure how well those little things handle scale speeds even with DCC control) but it would be great. Especially with ability to 3D print all sorts of models.

Your building techniques are great. I will apply some of your tips into my layout, eventually.
Looks like you're in the midst of a rebuild - I love O scale stuff, the detail on the models is incredible compared to N.

On a different note, I saw on wgn this morning, that the city has it's first national park. They turned the old pullman site into a national park.

Always enjoy looking at your excellent lay out. It brings back good memories of the industrial area in Toronto back in the day.
