Hi Patrick. You made me realise three things.
    1 I’m not leading myself
2 I’m not leading my team
    3 I need to be a father
    Thank you Sir.

I try to put being a father first. My daughter will have to come on calls with me sometimes after school. She doesn’t want to. But tell her if we don’t work we won’t have any money to pay the bills then no money to play. Have to work before play. But I feel all the other stuff will go to my kid when I’m gone and it’s my job to make her the best person I can and prepare her for the world. Then to do the same some day when she has kids.

I'm a female in the tech industry, and I messed up with work at my last job because I was scared to make decisions. I've always taken instructions from men, and it was difficult to switch roles. I was confronted with a similar situation at my current job, and this time, I made the decisions and executed them, but I had help. All I can say is that being a leader is stressful, and I have more compassion for men when they take up that mantle and execute it. No wonder men die so much earlier than women. Stressful

I think the fear of failing and have it on your shoulders is a very common denominator that holds many, including myself, back from pursuing certain roles. If you are a hard worker and hold the quality of your work at a high level then you have responsibility as a key trait. The reality is you've already made a ton of decisions in your worklife that have had significant impacts on the customers your serve and you likely wouldn't be where you are unless those contributions were highly positive amongst those your serve. Great advice by Patrick and I appreciate you taking the time to go through these signs so I can focus some time on identifying which are present with me and overcoming them.

  • @zaskarclf

I'm glad to hear all this. My impression of myself is I was afraid. Guess I am no longer afraid. I speak my mind now, only after analyzing all the data before I make decisions about how to handle situations and therefore when conflict arises, I stand my ground and own my decisions because I've already thought things through before I took the initial action.
I try to teach my kids the same. Gather data, focus on the results youre trying to achieve, weigh your options, then take action, stay true to your principles, and not everyone is going to be your friend.
I was well into my mid 30s until I fgured out all of this. So I'm hoping to save my kids some growing pains.

Everything he said here is spot on. I work for a large, possibly the largest privately owned business in America and it's falling apart quickly. The reason for that is that there is not one person in a leadership role that is prepared or qualified to lead.
