Golf Club Repair - Part 1 - Removing a shaft & cleaning the hosel

- You will need a graphite shaft extractor before even attempting to remove a shaft from a composite or titanium golf club. Some models may not be able to be removed, depending on the company and the adaptor that is used to connect the shaft to the hosel of the club.
Some items you will most likely need:
1. Graphite Shaft Extractor
2. Heat Gun or Propane Heat Gun
3. Wire Hosel Cleaning Bits
4. Shafts
5. Sander
6. Drills and Drill Bits
7. Razor Blades
8. Sand Paper
9. Measuring tape
Please be advised that I have been gathering some of these tools over the years. Sometimes it's easier to piece your work shop together over a period of time. Thank you for watching and I hope you have learned something from my videos.

Thanks for the question. I use a Golfworks Enhanced Graphite Shaft Extractor. The one in their catalog is a newer version of the one that I use. The catalog # is GW1009 and sells for $189.99. It's worth every dollar if you save only a handful of shafts. Once you use it a few times, it becomes really easy to use. Experiment first on a few old clubs, just in case you make a mistake. Yes, you could tip trim the shaft & that will stiffen it up. However, if the shaft is REGULAR flex, my guess is that particular shaft won't be stiff enough at your high swing speed. If it were a STIFF flex, I'd say give it a try. Your best bet would be to get a good STIFF or even an X-STIFF. Also, remember that tip trimming will shorten the shaft.

Sorry but it seems laughable you need a shaft extractor for this, how does it make any difference whatsoever? It helps it slide out clean? I do not see how that matters once the glue is released, could do it by hand or simply use a cushioned vice.
petecabrina it's not laughable. If you don't want to save the shaft, and you twist it out, you will risk breaking the graphite fibers and the shaft will become unusable. The best way to save a shaft is to pull it straight off with a shaft extractor, so all the fibers remain intact. When the shaft is hot, the fibers become soft, just like the glue.
