Thanks for featuring my old haunt. I spent a lot of time there working, visiting friends and visiting family. Always a favourite place for Australians.
Great film!! Love the area. You should have popped into the Berrima District Museum, its fascinating place and amongst the rich history on show is the great story of the German prisoners housed in the gaol during WW1. These were mostly maritime merchant marine crews who were caught here when their ships were in port when war was declared, with a smattering of ships agents and business people representing the German shipping lines here in Oz. They ended up being allowed to work for local people etc and eventually built a whole series of 'chalets' out of stone and timber along the Wingecarribee River, very much modelled on the styles back home in Germany. They also established substantial vege gardens, dammed the river and built miniature ships of all types, which a man could sit in and crew - they had regular regattas! which the local towns people would attend. They even built a small U-Boat and a Zeppelin. Successive bush fires over the years destroyed the chalets and huts and all that remains are mostly the stone steps. There is a walk along the river which is signposted showing you where their buildings once stood and any remains.
Just happened to be up early to catch your first posting of this lovely post. Beautiful area Terry. So lucky we can see places we may never get to. Loved the old jail. Where next? Your nearly home ! What a life you lead, lots of memories. Suzy
@ I was just thinking of you going round and round! Why stop ? It’s better than been stuck living in one place. I wish I could do it! Life is too short. Go for it ☺️
Bowral is indeed a beautiful town. Sadly, my family and I experienced the most overt racism while visiting over fifteen years ago. I only pray that the place has improved, as it really ruined the experience for us. Sad, as the whole region is gorgeous.
@@LetsGo012 it was many years ago, and I’m always open to giving it another shot. I believe people can change 😊 It’s very hard to try and scrub experiences that involve racism from one’s mind. But it’s also easy to try and work towards gaining new perspectives over time. Your videos are wonderful, by the way! Keep it up!

The region is beautiful. So sorry you had a terrible experience. I only found friendly people so hopefully it’s improved
