I knew Billy in The 80,s when i was entering the game. What a really nice guy he was and very chatty, helpful. A true Gentleman. He was always at wigan in the players bar. Your legacy Billy will be one of the greatest ever players in the history of Rugby league.
That tackle at 0.27 by Australian fullback ..( don't know who ) was a Boston BOMB ...ala legless !!....could it have been Langelands ? regardless BILLY BOSTON was HELD in VERY high esteem in Australia during the 60's
I know, such a shame wasn’t it? Racist Cardiff wouldn’t sign him, it was his home town club so he had to go play for Neath and Pontypridd. He said he cried when he signed for Wigan because he never got the chance to play for Cardiff and Wales.
Billy boston a fantastic rugby league player ( haven't seen him play union ) but he most certainly is not a patch on Jason Robinson as someone in the comments proclamed !
I was about 7 years old when I was taken to see Wigan at Central Park ... the name Billy Boston had an aura about it and was frequently mentioned by my grandfather (Frank Stephens, another Welsh "import" who had played for Wigan until 1930). I can honestly say, even when I saw him storming up the pitch, at the time it never registered with me that Billy Boston was a black man! He was more in the mould of a superhero to me so was bound to have something special about his appearance ... I would have been more surprised if he had just looked "average"! Billy Boston clearly isn't average!
Awesome story and must have been hell of a experience mate.👍🏽 The atmosphere can’t be the same now as it was when you saw it live. Wish I was around then to experience it myself. Wales missed out on a huge talent. Also Billy was mixed race rather than black. His mother was Irish/Welsh.
@@Rebelass74 billy was from tiger bay same area as me all his family are still there such a shame cardiff and wales never got to see him play in their ranks
One of the greatest players of all time his record of tries will never be beaten
Still see owd billy knocking about my local Tesco getting his groceries every so often. A true living legend.
Absolute legend. Best Wigan winger ever and I'm including Jason Robinson and Martin Offiah in that assessment.
I met Billy just recently at the funeral of Geoff Pimblett. He was a great guy to talk to.
Yeah really nice lad

@@tommyhassan3545 Awesome mate. Yep, no doubt, he would have gone down as one of the best Welsh players ever. Such a shame really.

@@kenparr270 True, but I meant in a sense as a Union Welsh International.👍🏽

Billy Boston was a fine player, but he DID NOT score 120 tries in one season as Ray says here.
