    Henry Ford was able to decide what he wanted to be built and by whom in the time. That he asked for this little tractor to be built for his grand children was no surprise. Asked is maybe not the right word. Oh to be so powerful!

    I get tired of people using the word, 'unique' to describe mass produced machines, but this piece truly deserves it.
    You don't get too darn many nearly 100 year old one off units of ANYTHING in this kind of condition.
    What in the world is such a unique piece of automotive history as this worth? This little guy is from the John Deere Dain era and even more rare. Whether Ford guys or general tractor guys will pay more than JD prices remains to be seen.

    The extra "S" creates meaning to the name: Ford Sons.

    Henry Ford's estate was named Fairlane,and as I recall was about 1300 acres here in Dearborn ,Michigan. The house is 31,000 square feet and has 56 rooms.It is currently under restoration, but public tours were conducted.

      The same people who Mr. Ford warned us about in his writings, later destroyed Dearborn (as part of a larger scheme but Dearborn was picked in particular. Such a shame. Sorry Mr. Ford.

    As a native Michigander who grew up 4 miles from the Dearborn/Rouge areas where this would have been produced one hundred years ago, I offer a potential theory as to the "s." We Mid-Westerners have a habit of adding an 's' onto places/companies/people where it may not always necessarily make grammatical or practical sense, but sort of sounds better to the ear. Common examples include stores like "Meijers," and "Walmarts," to the pretty common "Fords" of today- or possibly "Fordson(s)" of yesteryear. Or I'm just over-thinking it; and they added the 'S' if it was literally built for "Ford's Son's."

    My grandpa has a 45 Ford tractor, how do I find out what implements that it can use? Thanks

    • @cdjhyoung
      @cdjhyoung 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      newt duke: A 1945 Ford tractor is probably a 2N. Like the other N series tractors it uses mounted implements on its three point hitch. The implement size is referred to as "category one" implements. You can find used equipment sometimes at farm auctions, but your best source is one of the farm supply stores like Tractor Supply. Some modern companies like John Deere and Kabota make the same size implements currently, and might be a good source also.
      If your real question is what can it handle, if your tractor is in good tune, it can pull a 2x12 plow, a five foot disc, a wagon or cart, it can handle a Woods mower, but I don't know what size, probably less than five foot. You only have about 20-24 horsepower to work with as pulling power, a little more on the PTO.

      Yep, the first riding mower or garden tractor.

    • @cdjhyoung
      @cdjhyoung 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The actual Fordson tractor WAS designed to take the place of a team of mules or horses. Look around TH-cam and you'll find old movie advertisements that were still comparing the tractors of the day to the horses used on the farm still in the mid 1930's. My dad came of age in the late 1930's. his dad bought six 9N Fords to use on their farm, one for himself, one for each son and one for each of the hired men. They stepped from teams of horse to tractors in 1939. According to my dad, the tractors were great labor savers, but at least with a team of horses, the horses got tired and both the team and you got to take a break. Not so with a tractor.
