Nice video. I am curious of what the smell would be like after a while. Does the filter material reduce the smell as it rolls over the dirty side of the material?
That's really going to depend on your envrionmentand how much waste your tank produces - it's very dry in Colorado so our rolls, plus the salt, you can't smell them at all. If you feed a ton and live in a humid climate where the roll can't dry out, your mileage might vary.
@Nj aquaculture Coral there's no comparison between a half funky decent skimmer and the filter roll - you practically can't smell it all unlike skimmate
Checker _vN I’ve got it plumbed straight off the return before the skimmer. I also have the swing gate valve open about 1/4 to give my skimmer something to do!
cool vid. didn't expect evans voice to be that low. but now that i picture him with some armour, a shield and a battle axe, i understand. Good work dudes.
Love the concept. But cautious about new methods. My sump is very similar, no mechanical except skimmer and carbon dosing(NOPOX not pellets) I use high cap GFO for phosphate. My concern is limiting food for my corals. I use pellet daily and mysis and reef chili/roids 2x weekly. I feel like the fish poop and coral foods get to "recirculate" through the sump for hours. What breaks down, well GFO. Please keep us posted on if your corals get pale. Could always dump carbon/GFO and feed corals roids daily. Just a different method....with less "filter media" but more feeding..... Jury may be out. As filtration peaks, our tanks may just have a constant IV drip....
To me it appears that from the position you placed the unit, it would be a pain in the ass to change the rolls. What with your skimmer in the way and all. I would have put the skimmer in the back right corner with the RM in the front left with the roll caps facing front for easier replacement. Definitely a hobby that we all could wish for a dedicated fishroom.
Great video! My overflow box sends the water through bio balls and then down into a sump where the water passes through filter floss and then more bio balls. Does this roller allow me to remove all of that? It seems to me I wouldn't want all that detritus in the bio balls if I could just remove it with the roller. Thank you
Thanks for the video, brother!! I am thinking of ditching the filter socks but trying to decide on either the ClariSea GEN 2 5000SK oR THE NEW Compact Roller Mat!! How many gallons are you pushing through your system first of all & What are your thoughts and opinions On this Gen 2 CALIRSEA?? I will be dropping it in a SCA 150 rimless tank in my Synergy CL-44 SUMP..
Thanks for the video, brother!! 1ST HOW BIG of a return pump are you running? I am thinking of ditching the filter socks but trying to decide on either the ClariSea GEN 2 5000SK oR THE NEW Compact Roller Mat!! I will be dropping it in a SCA 150 rimless tank in my Synergy CL-44 SUMP?? What are your thoughts and opinions?
Hi what kind of small tank is that at 1:24 ? i am looking for a nice small fish tank i think fresh water to begin with what do you think i should buy? my budget is aound 300 euros and i want max 50/60 liters but less is more;) Greetings, Nathanaël (NL)
I ordered the SK 5000 from charterhouse aquatics as I'm in the UK, but I'm not sure if its the gen 2. Could you clarify the difference between the first generation and the one in the video?
Hi great video, i'm really glad i went for the Clarisea absolute nightmare to set up next to my skimmer but finally done and working. on a seperate note i was wondering if anyone could help me out with some knowledge about how long from dead rock to live rock?
how would you go about installing this on a sump such as a trigger or other that has a bubble catch/tower where the tank drains into and then flows over floss or socks? I run the marine depot custom trigger 30 and cant find a good video of clarisea filter roller on a sump like these. Just curious.
Thanks for the review Evan! Do you think the light from your algae scrubber grows algae on the surface turning it into a psuedo rollomat algae scrubber?!
Will it kill all the critters in my reef tank? I like those guys . I have a endless supply to feed my fish and corals . But if i put this filter on it will it be the end of my supply?
there's a bypass you can use to allow them to escape - the tiny copepods will definitely get filtered out some but larger ones like amphipods will be fine - but overall you will surely have enough pods to go around
Me with my first roll as well. Have reduced the return pump flow and opened the bypass of the Clarisea. Now it leasts about 6 weeks and the roll is really deep brown.
Hey Im impressed with Evans skimmer, Can you do a skimmer comparison in one of the Flats? also with the filter rolls simultaneously,. BTW going to look hard at roll filters today
I think the inner "Gross Boy" part of me is coming out, because I want to know what that dirty roll unrolled looks like, is it just brown? are there going to be a ton of *pod bodies in it? Overall it seems like if you changed out your filter socks VERY regularly you could get the same results, it's just we all know how 2-3 day changing schedule might turn into 2-3 week changing schedule :D
Me too. Tried the Klir and had to return because I couldn't get full siphon. I had it mounted in the stand they sell. But it also was loud, so that was the big reason I returned
Evan is a Reef Builders 'Exclusive' lol - we'll work together on more videos, I think I'm going to let him build out this Red Sea Peninsula 650 we got in here
It cleans alot better than a filter sock the rubbish it pulls out of the water is amazing. Filter socks are fine if you clean them every few days, but I didn't and not many people do that's the problem. The clarisea you just change the roll every 6 weeks or so.
I've always liked these and considered one at one point, but I feel like that thing has to stink, especially with 2 months of rolling. Cool video though. Never seen someone fully build it, show its performance like that in a video. That was cool!
So how much of a hassle is it to change the roll within the cramped confines of the sump???? The company produced videos show the roll change steps with the unit on a table....which does not give a "real world" example of changing this thing given that you have to cut, staple, and thread new roll paper to replace the roll. On a table, yeah, no big deal...but this seems like it would be a PITA to have to do this within the sump.
Great product but $399!!!!! I can't justify it ,if I got $400 I'm getting fish , corals and or a new tank....lol I just feel like the price keeps people away ? I really hope that prices go down over time but really dout that ever happens
It's interesting, part of me thinks having particulates floating around is a good, thing, those are food particles that may get eaten up on a second third run, $400 nope, sorry, I see some laser cutting, a float switch, motor and some paper. Probably $50 to make, retail and tax $120. Companies need to focus more on volume, this isn't a high end led light. It would stink too I imagine. All my detritus ends up in the overflow, I simply siphon out on water change each month. Almost zero in my sump, where the skimmer probably grabs some. Cool device , wayyyyy too expensive, it gets a no sale from me.
Your mileage will vary on the size of your tank, how much you feed, flowthrough, and your use of the bypass. On my 800 gallon system I'm at every 6-7 weeks but Evan reckons he'll be every other month, not twice a month
Nice video. I am curious of what the smell would be like after a while. Does the filter material reduce the smell as it rolls over the dirty side of the material?

I love this hobby. Basically makes us buy more and more gadgets.
Nice work - Really enjoyed this "real world" video. I love my ClariSea...doing my first filter roll change this evening!
Luis Rosa did u put it like in the video or after the skimmer?
Checker _vN I’ve got it plumbed straight off the return before the skimmer. I also have the swing gate valve open about 1/4 to give my skimmer something to do!
Luis Rosa okay thank you very much ^^

You did a great video for your first time keep up the great work
How about the metric parts on the filter roll?
Great video Evan, keep them coming!

Can we presume that Nitrate levels should fall if filter takes out these larger wastes faster?
Awesome, need to see more videos like this. Good products such as heaters and controllers, pumps, skimmers, lights, wave makers, ect..
Are they GPH rated ?
Love the nyos, they do a great job pulling junk from the water, nice job
Thank you Adam's for all your video's 😘
Great work evan 🙏🏻

Thanks a lot. What is the recommended water level in the sump for Clarisea to be standind on the bottom of the sump?
Nice work man

I would get one for my larger tank but my eshops cube sump won't fit it :(
I'm still a big fan of the filter sock n changing them once a week but great video especially with your phone👍
Great first video good job
How about changing the roll? Looks tough to do. Are you personally going to remove the skimmer to do this?
Hey Jake I will be visiting Colorado in the next week do you let follower visit your studio?
Great video👊👍
Rico, let me know if you want to try my version on that monster tank of yours.

Very creatively
How is the smell with the roller mat?
no smell
Luv the vid ..keep it coming😊
Thanks for the review Evan! Do you think the light from your algae scrubber grows algae on the surface turning it into a psuedo rollomat algae scrubber?!
Hey cool product where can I buy this?
Marine depot
$300
Great video Jake. But can you add more light in your studio because you guys look a bit dark in the video!
Will it kill all the critters in my reef tank? I like those guys . I have a endless supply to feed my fish and corals . But if i put this filter on it will it be the end of my supply?

How expensive is the small sized one?
Its only $25 cheaper.
I am interested in the filter rollers, but I have a bean animal return and don't know if it can be plumbed in. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Howard Bash Good question . Following along .
Me too. Tried the Klir and had to return because I couldn't get full siphon. I had it mounted in the stand they sell. But it also was loud, so that was the big reason I returned
Certainly a good way to get food particles out of there.
What's the link to Evan's channel? If he has one.

Hey Jake can you upload a playlist of all the songs you use (especially from your Reefapalooza Orlando vid lol) thanks, big fan of your videos:)
When you say the water is clear is it like running carbon clear.
clear of small particles, but won't affect yellow or greenish water
@@ReefBuildersVideo thanks
Mine has lasted over 4 months so far. tank is only 32 gallons.
I noticed he said it works great, but wasn’t using a filter sock prior to. My question is: does it clean better than a filter sock?

only thing I am worried about it smell, he said that roll would last for many 2 months.
not even in the same league as half funky skimmate, no contest
thank you very much show this video.
What about bad smell filter keep at there few month?!!!
Cool te-shirt jake of lord Ganesha🙏🏻🌺
I've always liked these and considered one at one point, but I feel like that thing has to stink, especially with 2 months of rolling. Cool video though. Never seen someone fully build it, show its performance like that in a video. That was cool!
The roll dries out pretty quick so there is minimal smell unless your right up close(within 2 inches)
Cool idea, but seems expensive given what it does... and it doesn't even come assembled for that price.
It is expensive, but not having to change filter socks is priceless.
@@luckyfukr Why not? Don't see how this offers substantial benefit.
Have you seen the x-filter!
follow up on the lfs Saturday giveaway? would love to use the clarisea sk3000 if it's available :)

Clarisea 🙈 Innovitech 👌👍
Is that the one from finding Nemo?

Most if not all Marine aquarium products are way overpriced. Companies take advantage of consumers willing to pay for the "best" and have the funds.

One day when i have an extra million dollars laying around ill get one
damn nice toupee bro
2 filter rolls a month sounds pricey
