Absolutely! My first Ys game ever, didn't know what to expect except from a couple gameplay trailers that looked fun. Woke up on shore and this was my adventuring track?! It fits the combat system and Adol's personality perfectly! The soundtrack to this game is amazing!
If their aim with this song is to convey how exciting and joyful adventuring is to Adol, they knocked this one out of the park and off the island. I'm so happy while listening to this.

Ys VIII was my first Ys game and I was blown away by it. It may not have the best visuals, but everything else about it pretty much perfect. Exquisite soundtrack. My playthrough clocked in at about 85 hours. I spent a lot of time goofing off. I regret nothing.

I played this game at 38 years old, and this track made me feel like a kid watching the intro of a weekend anime
Played it at 35, immediately after running through the entire goddamn Trails series last year. I have only ever had a tangential relationship to anime before my Trails experience, and then I found myself subscribing to Crunchyroll and watching a bunch of different shit this year. Fuck is wrong with me.
Anyway, looking forward to Daybreak 2 whenever that gets localized, and Ys X: Nordics this fall.
This makes me tear up. Wish I could forget this game and experience it all again. When this song hit at the start of the game I was like "fuck yes, this is how you do it". Such a well done game. Props to falcom
Then start with "The Legend of Heroes: Trails in The Sky FC" . The emotions you get in those games is even a billion times stronger. But YS VIII was amazing indeed.

Have just started it the other day, completely blind (the only game in the series I've played is Origin). Just finished chapter 2 and I love it, already purchased IX since starting.
tbh when i first began lacrimosa of dana i wasn't really fond of this track, but then it grew on me, oh god if it grew on me... and yeah, i wish i could experience the game again for the first time. Dana Forever.
@@Rhovanion85 I tried Trails in the Sky and didn't like it at all so refunded it. Then got into the Ys series with VIII. Now I'm only missing 2 games form it. During this christmas I decided to get Cold Steel 1 on a whim just to give Trails another chance. My god I absolutely LOVED it. So much so that I bouggt the sequel within 6 hours of playtime. Then I caved and bought them all. Including the Sky trilogy. Just yesterday I discovered there was a voice mod for Sky and downloaded it and started playing again. Now I'm genuinely interested in the Trails universe thanks to CS, which got me excited for Sky. Then add voice acting to feel so much more immersive... I'm a Falcom fanboy now.
I'm happy this series is finally getting the attention it deserves. I've been playing these games since the early 90's, while none of my friends even knew what it was.

You know, if the game's weren't stuck on Sony handhelds for the longest time, I'dve been all over them. I only got Ys 8 cause it seemed like a good pickup on Switch.

Only ten hours in, and I am compelled to agree. There are some moments when I actually got goosebumps. It's just that satisfying to play.
I like it way more then any other RPG on the Switch so far. My second most played game on the Switch just behind Splatoon 2

This song is truly a masterpiece. Out of all Ys, this is just an amazing starting map track to get you truly ready for that first start of this magical adventure.

I've played all 9 translated Trails games, and just today started Ys 8 as my first Ys/ Falcom game outside Kiseki. God did I not expect this to be the first field theme I heard. Such a cool moment.
I hope you enjoy the series! The Ys has a bunch of good titles in the group. Ys 8 was a very solid entry with amazing music (as youve come to expect from Falcom). I won't spoils anything if you're not to the point but whilst maybe unfitting for the moment just wait till you have to do stealth and the music explains to you it is but a suggestion.
Ys9 is very good too, definitely recommend you to play it
I remember being blown away by the OST for Ys I & II on TG16 CD. It is amazing how Falcom has been able to recruit so much talent over the decades. This banger continues the legacy that started with First Step Towards Wars (among so many others in the first installment) and has a permanent corner in my brain and playlists. This one really brings in Ys VIII with a bang, getting you psyched to go adventuring & mow down any monsters in the way. Can't wait to see what Ys IX & it's OST will be like- I'm sure we will be in for something amazing again. At least Falcom finally bent their "silent protagonist" rule... even if Adol doesn't get as much voice as the other characters, it's good to hear him.
And he's voiced Kirito's Bryce Papenbrook at that! XD

ive never played a Ys game until today. this song really does convey a strong sense of adventure. its so wild and carefree..but dynamic all at once! i know i cant be the only one that feels that way. going into this game i expected only orchestral scores.. im glad im wrong.
I live 5 blocks from the ocean and love the coast. I was listening to a Nintendo Playlist on spotify that shuffled this song on for me. What is YS? I thought. I looked it up on Steam and saw some amazing reviews on this title. I jumped in right away and I have literally never had another adventure quite like this one. To be greeted by that song almost right away just got me pumped for discovery. A month later and I'm a YS fangirl and an Adol addict. Can't wait for the next one 😀
It all started back in 1987..... the original BGM was composed by a female employee at Nihon Falcom (she is now an executive at Falcom).
Now the newest of the series is IX, Ys Monstrum NOX (kinda strange title), but I myself liked the VIII, which is this.
The original concept was based on a myth in France.
First time playing this game, I know nothing about Ys series or Falcom in general, I just decided to pick this game, since there's blue haired lady with revealing get up, and with how much desperation the opening section of this game (since they're attacked by mysterious creature and stranded in mysterious island), I am blown away on how energetic this song is.
That blue-haired lady is probably one of the best female video game heroines that I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing as
This is the best overworld theme I've heard in an Ys game since...well, since First Step Towards Wars, actually.
There's something about this song, I can't put my finger on it.
Like a hopeful theme as your adventure starts, it honestly makes me wanna cry and I have no clue why.

But then, while I was exploring these first areas with this track booming, I suddenly found myself standing there in the sunshine with a fish freshly caught and smiling into the camera with a pair of sunglasses... "This is gonna be one awesome vacation" 8)
I downloaded the game onto my PS Vita yesterday. I usually hate fishing in games but I actually find it enjoyable in this game.
Corny as it is to say, this music makes me feel happier than I've felt in years. Magic sounds being made here. I feel like I'm home!

Just finished Ys VIII last month. truly a masterpiece but Sunshine Coastline alone pumps me up like nothing else. If I ever feel anxiety, fear or hesitation in my life choices I always come back to this one. Everything about it just makes me believe I can do anything! It's my favorite Falcom track. I never get tired of it!
Around the start of this game I was feeling burned from the new direction the Zelda series was taking. I felt the need for another game to say 'hey, let me take you on a journey' instead of the open world approach of ' hey, go do something!'. It was when this track played that the game was telling me. ' Hey, I got you. You've had a great run with Zelda but don't be bitter at its new direction. Take my hand because I'm about to take you on an incredible journey.'
And that's how Ys became my new favorite series. Thank you Falcom!
I'm with you. Bought this on a whim during an Eshop sale during the pandemic, pretty jaded with cinematic, movie-like games. I liked Ys Seven and Celceta from a few years back and told myself what the hell, I'll just give it a go. A few minutes later, this track plays as I'm exploring the island and my love and passion for games suddenly came back to life. What a wonderful experience.

Ys is a series that is known to just have killer soundtrack after killer soundtrack--in fact, it's the reason I got into the series in the first place--but I don't have any hesitation that not only is this the best soundtrack in the game, I fully believe this is the best soundtrack Falcom Sound Team has ever produced. Just banger after banger, each with their own feel, memorable in their own right, and even as you're listening to them over and over while you explore, they don't wear out their welcome.
And this track right here, absolutely top 10 of Falcom's catalogue. What a statement to start your game off with!

One of the best games I played in recent years and one of the most authentic adventure feeling I ever got from a game.
Ys 8 was one for the first games I played and completed on my own in 4th grade and now I’ve played hundreds of game and I’m graduating but this is still one for my favourites

I just recently purchased this game, already aware that this was the 8th in the series and I FUCKING LOVE IT! :D At first I was hesitant, because I never played any of the recent ones, but the gameplay and story seemed too interesting to pass up. And when THIS started playing, I knew I made the right choice. :')
That's exactly the same as my first time with this series. They all have great first overworld tracks.
My first time with this series was Memories of Celceta. That had a great soundtrack too. I really need to try Lacrimosa of Dana sometime.
As far as I know only Ys I and II are directly related to one another as the ending of Ys I is the beginning of Ys II (which is why they are often bundled together).
Also, Ys II is the only game in the series that takes place in "Ys" (getting to Ys is kinda the whole point of the first game). The rest of the games take place in other regions
@@mastermp2 You go back to the areas from Ys I and II in both versions of Ys IV (Mask of the Sun has you going back to Ys itself, while Dawn of Ys has you exploring the overworld and going back to Darm Tower, if I remember correctly).
I played a port if the original back on the Sega Master System, but the sequels were released exclusively to so many different consoles I never got a chance to play them, until this one. The story and emotion within it put this game at the very top of my favourites.

Soon as this theme started playing, I knew I was going to be in one hell of a journey. Much like Gaur Plains from Xenoblade 1.
So glad my friends talked me into playing this game.
Just finished the game and got the platinum trophy! (Thankfully I played it after the english relocalization even though I bought it 1st week of release) This track is my favorite of all. It just screams ADVENTURE, which is the main point of Ys. It really helps that this was the first track to play in the Isle of Seiren, really sets the tone of the game. Love ya Falcom! Can't wait for Ys 9! Lol.

Looks at Ys VIII : But I love this.
Not only is this is the best song in the whole game without a doubt, which is already saying A LOT, but it's also the best in the entire franchise as a whole, and frankly one of the best in any game ever. It's absolutely perfect, nails the adventure vibe like Wind Waker.
Til now, sunshine coastline and spiral of erebos are still on the top of my list. Unisuga is such a god creating these masterpieces of OST's.
This theme and Eroded Valley are my favorites. Ys music is always so good!
Falcom Music in general. This song and Burning Throb from TOCS 4 are my favorite. They are somewhat similar.
This was such an amazing game, I was tears, genuinely couldn't explain it, I've not felt this level of emotion since I watched A silent voice, this game will be with me for the rest of my life, the story was that good. I'm now a Ys fan because of this game, currently playing YS 9, the gameplay is great but the story isn't even on the same level as Ys 8

I hadn't kept up much with Ys when VIII was released, slept on it a couple years, bought it on sale not expecting much, not hugely feeling it at first. Then, I left the game on pause at the beach and went around my day for a bit, all the while Sunshine Coastline was playing. I'd catch it here in there, "that song is pretty good" eventually turned into "that song is faaantaaastic" and it fully pulled me into the game, which is now one of my favorite games of all time. Thank you Sunshine Coastline and Falcom Sound Team jdk!

Playing my 3rd playtrough of YS VIII, this game is Amazing, I never bored to this game. 😂😂😂 best music, lots of character with their own problem. Charming story. Also beautiful graphic.

I was late to the party with this game and just finished it a couple of months ago, but it's easily one of my favorites of all time now🤘🏻
This was my first Ys experience; later on I played through Origins, and I have Ys IX and Memories of Celceta to play through. But the story of this game and the music threading that story was an incredible experience. I loved the Dana / Adol relationship.

When I started this game the exuberance of the music kind of caught me off guard compared to what had featured before but seconds in and I was smiling ear to ear, head banging & making up lyrics! Fuckin awesome!!

Same for me, first play on ps vita than on ps4. One of the best rpg ever. Ys 9 was good but not as 8. Ys 10 seems good but not as 8...Anyway all ys games are great
I don't think i will ever forget the experience i had with this game.
I gave the game a chance since you could play the game for free for a week on Switch, i was fortunately done with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 when the offer started and i also wanted to play a Falcom game so it was the perfect opportunity
The moment i heard the music and the praise this game and the falcom games had, i could tell it was going to be great.
And obviously, i enjoyed it greatly, so much so that i was able to beat the game with the true ending in about 4-5 days with most of the side content done while still enjoying the game and taking my time.
The fact that i was able to complete this game in a time limit made this amazing and memorable game even more special.
I have also now gone through the Trails serie in order from Sky to Cold Steel 3 ending (waiting for a Cold Steel 4 sale).
And all of that was partly thanks to Ys 8 for being my first Falcom game
