    I’m an LPN and I’m good with this! Let the RN make her assessments and decisions. Let them have the headaches. We deal with stable patients with predictable outcomes and I’m SO comfortable with that. If I’m not enough nurse for them, so what? It’s my life.

    I like being an LPN cuz there's not as much burnout compared to an RN I work at a rehab in Connecticut and I get paid 28 an hour with full benefits so I'm pretty comfortable. Now I'm responsible to monitor the patient's for the RN and the RN does more of the supervisory work while the LPN does most of the wound care and Med passes but still there's less burnout and less responsibility for the LPN which I like because I can go home being less tired and relax and enjoy my life a little bit easier.

      Thanks for the info ! Thinking about becoming an lpn myself . Been an Emt for a year and looking to get in a lpn program . But don’t want a lot of responsibility etc like you say just do my work n go home not trying to be a hero or anything . Sounds like you get great pay too. The only downside I see is job opportunity . The RNs have greater job opportunity . Some hospitals don’t even like to hire lpn

      I agree. I am currently a CNA in an LPN program, and I have seen some horrible (bad attitudes, lack of empathy and/or skill) and some fantastic nurses, both LPN and RN. The best ones, that seem to have a genuine calling for their field, were CNA's first. They inspired me to further my own career. Not to say that it can't be done straight out, but it seems so much more of a fit now, I love my job.

    I took my entrance exams to get into RN School and passed with flying colors. I was attending ITT Tech and I had a 3.9 GPA and about a year before finishing my degree, ITT tech closed. It was chaos! I decided to take my entrance exam so once again and go to ECPI University. My first semester in the RN program I woke up one morning with this excruciating pain in my neck down into my arm. I had herniated five of my cervical vertebrae! Since it was an accelerated program, I was dropped from the RN program after missing three consecutive days because I was waiting to get into see a pain specialist to get steroid injections. It’s been almost 2 years, & i’m contemplating going back to our in school or possibly LPN. I live in Virginia and unless someone really wants to work in a hospital, being an LPN is the way to go.

    Also where I live lpns work in hospitals, skilled facilities, doctor's offices, CPR centers, home care, and they are able to teach stna courses under the direction of a RN.. you can also get a specialty through certification. There are great opportunities for LPNs. I'll add though RNs do make a few dollars more (*Starting off together*).. why not go back for your rn if it means more education and money? I do know seasoned LPNs who make more money than their RN counterparts but do the exact same thing. This nursing world is crazy. Whatever route you go it's all good. LPNs make good money and so does RNs they do the same freaking things in ohio the only thing lpns can't do is teach rns and blood transfusions. In one skilled facility we have a lpn who is a standing DON and there are also LPNs who are unit managers at a skilled facility at my job..🤷🏾‍♀️

    Things are different in Canada. Here in the United States there is no RN that will assess an LVN patient and help them decide on the proper care for their patient. RNs do the initial assessment in hospital settings and that’s it the LVNs are on their own. We are treated as equal. The Rn is too busy with their own patients to babysit another nurse.

    • @kiearacelina
      @kiearacelina  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello, great video. I have a question. I am interested in nursing but don’t know if I should be an LPN or RN. I don’t want to work in a hospital. I want to work in a Primary care doctors office, mental health clinic, oral surgery, etc. I really don’t want to work in long-term care either. Which route should I take?

    • @kiearacelina
      @kiearacelina  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Muriel Perez thank you for your comment.Honestly, you could work in all those places whether you’re an lpn on rn it all depends on you.Rn’s have more work options than Lpn’s but you can work at a clinic whether you’re an lpn or rn so the decision is yours.

      Nursing With Key Thank you, if it’s based on affordability, I rather just take the LPN route. It seems like an easier program to afford and quicker to get out. One question I have is pertaining to the Prerequisites. Do you have to complete any prior to getting accepted to the LPN program? Is there any Math you need? I hate algebra. I believe the ADN program requires college algebra. I want to stay away from programs that require too much math.

    • @kiearacelina
      @kiearacelina  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Muriel Perez my program requires for me to have advanced math and do an entry exam however,that depends on where you live and the school so my advice to you is to reach out to the schools around you and inform yourself on what their requirements are.If I were you,I would do the pre reqs anyway,a lot of people fall in love with nursing when they do the lpn program and decide to go further afterwards,at least it’ll already be done.

I just don't want to waste time and study too hard for it because I am not a good test taker and I have anxieties and dont want to overload on something if I am not going to use it fully. • @kiearacelina
      @kiearacelina  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That’s not really true,if a patient ends up dead because of the kind of care he received,it will fall on both nurses who were taking care of that patient so if the family decides to do an autopsy to figure out what killed the patient and they find out that it was a medication error,they will go back in the charts to see who gave the medication and signed off on it and it will fall on whoever gave that medication whether it’s the Lpn or the rn that is why nurses document. Also when I say school twice,I mean that if you do the Lpn program before becoming an rn you will have to do the Lpn program then the rn program so that paying for school twice.

They have a good rep for online schooling so if you want, you can work as an RN where you are and do the rn to bsn online at the same time until you’re done then you can come here and work as an RN. In Canada you have to have a bachelors to practice as an RN except for my province but you have to speak French here 🤦🏽‍♀️ anyway check that’s school out. Just write Athabasca university Rn to bsn and you’ll find it 😊 I hope this helps 🙏🏽

      The pay all depends on where you work but Lpn’s get payed well at my work place because I’m working as a Cna while In school and they pay me 20 an hour as a Cna so imagine what Lpn’s make. Not the best in the world but pretty good.
