Late reply, but for her age it's quite exceptional. Though yes, in some select places it is rather bad(not putting enough emphasis on a lot of higher notes that need it, for instance). It's been 6 years though, I'm sure she's really good at it now.
Just like Tiffany said, dont compare yourselves to others. 🙂 If you got a low esteem from watching this video, just keep striving, pls. The problem with other people is because they limit theirselves by saying “I can’t play this piece as good as her” or “I should have started when I was younger”. Stop saying those phrases pls, stop limiting yourselves. We’re humans, we are capable of doing any thing we want(just to clarify, not literally any thing we want and I’m not stating we don’t have limitations). We just need determination, hard work, patience and have a positive mindset. You may not be good as Tiffany but its okay, that doesn’t matter at all. What matters is you enjoy playing the music😃. I hope the person reading this comment helps to boost up your confidence😁😁
Also, it’s too late to change the past, so just accept it and focus on how you want to play in the future. You can work for those goals instead of dwelling on the past which you cannot change.
I remember playing this piece when i was in your age too, maybe a year older, and I still know how one day i wanted to ask my teacher if he could teach me that piece and right before i wanted to ask he took the score out of his bag and put it on the piano saying "Do you know this piece by Chopin?"☺
Great girl, love her. BTW for those music lovers: These people like Tiffany, Yujia Wang, Lang Lang , all of them finished all Chopin Etudes at around 12 years old. Fantasie Impromptu will be played around 10 or 11. This is "Normal " for those world class level people.
+Anna B it seems you are very talented. still i want to say that in my country, no matter how smart a kid is, they're not given the opportunity to go to a higher grade at school than normal. I am now 16. Since kindergarden and throughout primary school, my teachers used to tell my parents they wish they could take me to a higher grade, and that if i was in another country-like yours- , with a different educational system, they would give me this opportunity.
I find that sooo many children lack emotion when playing this level of music but I always feel that Tiffany Poon puts so much emotion into her playing and it is absolutely beautiful. This is actually one of my favourite interpretations of the piece. Well done!💚
I agree, so many children are just taught insanely difficult pieces, but not how to play musically. That’s why I’m not a fan of 7 year olds playing La Campanella etc., yes it’s impressive but most of them can barely play the notes let alone have emotional depth. Also it can discourage them from wanting to play, I remember getting so frustrated i wanted to quit because my teacher gave me pieces that I didn’t understand. Instead of going straight to pieces like that, more time needs to be spent on easier pieces and playing musically still with correct technique. Tiffany has obviously had superb training and is a child who should actually be playing pieces like these. :)
I have been playing piano for 5 years. I'm 14 and I can play this when I was 13, I would like to say that it wasn't the parents that made her this good. It is the passion you put into practicing deliberately every single day. That is what makes pianists and other athletes great. Unlike any other little Asian prodigies she puts a lot of expression and dynamics into playing this piece. She clearly enjoys playing the piano and has a passion. Stop being ignorant and hating on her if you can't play as well as her.
I attest that this is true, and that it's also never too late to start. I started at at age 30, the first piece was Nocturne op.20. I've started shortly after returning from a trip to Warsaw in 2021 where it was the first time I've been into a philharmonic hall for the Chopin Competition. The piece that really got me falling for the piano was Gadjiev playing Barcarolle op.60. It was overwhelmingly beautiful, especially with the history behind that piece. Just a month ago, I've just finished learning that very piece, which was one of the best memory I've had in a long time
This gave me chills. I have been playing this piece for 20+ years (on and off) and I am not even close to this level of perfection. To all the people making negative comments, you obviously don't play the piano or have an ounce of musical appreciation. This is just breathtaking. Bravo, Tiffany.
I can't believe a kid could bring me to tears like that. I'm absolutely moved. I've never seen a kid so talented. Let's hope she uses it wisely. Bravo Tiffany!
cute little girl grows up to become a beautiful concert pianist . what great skill and talent .. the top 1 billionth of the top 1 % in the world ... a pleasure to watch listen and behold
I know this is going to sound cheesy as heck, but I am so proud of the talent this young woman has that it brings me to tears. The emotional journey this song brings me on is almost too much to bear, and it is purely evident that Poon truly feels every single note with great depth.
A jewel - not of New York, not of Hong Kong but a jewel amongst the whole world of music! She is world class at 11 years and has a brilliant future. Writing this in October, 2020, I am proud to be amongst her Patrons, witnessing her unique journey as a rare pianist. 💖
I've heard many interpretations, but Tiffany's is the best. She makes love to the piano. She caresses the keys. That's how Romantic arrangements must be played.
Simply, you've been a great pianist from kid. It's hard to believe that this little girl will be a superb pianist. Congratulations, Tiffany. I continue admiring you.
She was playing with such depth at 11. Unlike other prodigies, it seems that she was able to really transmute the emotional meaning of the piece. One of the very best. She's a gift that all should appreciate.
I have searched a lot. Especially regarding this song. And she is the only one, who was able to play the song, how I think Chopin mentioned it to sound like.
I love her interpretation of this piece: tempo, smoothness in the line of the music, gentle touch on the keys, the notes are all clean during the allegro agitato section. This is an excellent performance! She has a wonderful feel for the music.
her body language is the same, she looks like she’s enjoying playing the piano. For her age it seems that she has an understanding of music that most 11 year old kids won’t have👏🏻❤️
I keep listening, and nine years later, it's still one of the most moving pieces of music I've ever heard (1:10 to 3:35). There has been no match before or since. The innocence, sweetness, sadness, playfulness, and beauty of it is just overwhelming. Her phrasing is incredible. Only a child can play it like this. The sweetness and free-flowing exultation of the piece is just simply beautiful.
The best version I’ve ever heard. I really love this piece, and heard many pianists playing this with perfect piano skills. But only this one touches my heart.
I literally cried. This was so beautiful. I'm so much into piano but I didn't learn it when I was young and self taught myself after 8 years of electronic keyboard and organ training. The lack of power and skill in playing piano makes me frustrated sometimes. I'd practice with all my heart if I got another chance.
The more I hear from her, the more impressed I am. I agree with the comment about liking her interpretation better than the "pros". I could listen to her playing forever!
this is one of the most perfect renditions of this piece i have heard in general, let alone to be played so beautifully by a child is mind blowing. absolutely amazing
Years ahead of her time. My husband started to learn piano at 14 and taught himself to play. This was the piece that had him learn the instrument , and he says its hard to believe that Tiffany could play this so perfectly at 11 .. the left hand alone seems to require bigger hands. AMazing.
i was inspired to learn fantasie impromptu for myself- here i am... 12yrs old and finally learned this piece even though i’m not nearly as good as tiffany, i’m still trying to make it better :D thank u for inspiring me, tiffany :>
This is insane for an 11 year old but it falls very short of an accomplished professional. Listen to the Horowitz version. I would go so far as to say that this recording includes a lot of mistakes.
She’s got the IT quality of a world stage performer. Extracting the essence of the piece & the composer . Music first , performer second . Drawing you into the music itself. Interesting to consider her passion for studying the piano , I’m sure meant many hours away from friends and other interests. That’s the essence of passion in any field imho. Her performances of Hayden & Scarlatti are full of spirit, energy & musicianship !
Tiffany, you are the peerless pianist i ever heard! At such a young age, you already owned what others will never have: The absolute grace ! I recently talked about you to my christian friend " Michèle", an old specialist of endemic languages .... and hearing you in Chopin, nocturne N° 20 , she told me : "Tiffany is entirely in her Art, there is no theater, no artifice, only the authenticity of her true soul ... even her attitude means grace, all her soul is included into the wide soul of music." You are more than the daughter of Chopin, you are the only Tiffany Poon !
This is such a beautiful performance. The amount of emotion you put into it is unbelievable. I love this Chopin piece, and you playing it makes it even better than I could have dreamed of. I immediately subscribed after hearing this, your playing is stunning!
Thankyou Tiffany. I just came from seeing your much more recent youtube posts.. I am new to it all... you have a gift, shall we say, and to us all you are a gift... thank you.. :)
I know zero about piano but love to listen to classical music on the piano and guitar. She must be a prodigy because what I’m seeing and hearing is beyond education. It’s a lot of practice but that doesn’t explain what I’m hearing. Therefore I’m concluding that she must be a prodigy. She is a child in this video and normal to exceptionally gifted children can not play like this. INCREDIBLE, IMPRESSIVE AND any other great word that applies to this Gem.
I can't believe my absolute favourite performance of this piece was played by an eleven year old. I wonder if Tiffany would play it now it would/could be even better.
Tiffany, at 11, has that sporadic and "impromptu" sense that this song demands. Just listen to that first arpeggio. Her sense of "umph" where required is phenomenal. She truly is going to be one of the absolute greats. Though I believe she already is.
There goes my self esteem again
It's GONE... FOREVER!

Yeah I'm only learning this now and I can't play it half as good as her
She actually messed up at 0:55 (no offense, just saying no one's perfect)
I KNOW RIIIGHT
Such deep emotion that I almost forgot I was listening to a child.
True musical soul
And that tempo is fabulous

She made 1 mistake thoo
The phrasing is unbelievable.
