Which means, I have the equivalent of 24GB RAM DDR4. 12GB RAM DDR4 is already overkill for the average user, even the average gamer. Lol. Video editing is good at 8GB RAM DDR4 to 16GB RAM DDR4, maybe more. It varies on the software, and such. Ethical hacking doesn't need that much to do things pretty quickly. A great GPU though would severely make running stuff much faster though. You can do that on a cloud, too. If you're 3D modeling, you can do that on 16GB RAM DDR4 much better than 12GB RAM DDR4. Most games don't need more than 8GB RAM DDR4. I can run music making software, 4 VMs with higher RAM usage than the minimum asked for, a game, and several browser tabs usually with no issues. It's very safe to say that my laptop is a beast for RAM. :3 It can do most things just fine.
The thing to note is that if you run the games alone, with nothing in the background, it won't matter whether you have 16 or 32 GB of memory, in 99 % of the games. But if you have your browser and other apps running, it's definitely worthwile to go for 32 GB. I have 32 and whenever I play demanding games on high settings and resolution, I am almost always at 14 - 16 GB of RAM with Chrome and other crap running in the background
Yup, thankfully a friend bought a new PC and he sold his 32gb ripjaws kit to me for like 80 bucks, cheap future proofing and they do come in handy when I have games, my browser and discord open
CP really likes DDR5 RAM. Otherwise, in most of games it's not big difference but I think it will change soon and more games will prefer new standard of RAM

Should have been 16 GB DDR5 dual channel vs quad channel, the sizes doesn't really matter if the game doesn't use that many RAM. But hey maybe you just ran out of video ideas so I'll still give you a like for the efforts.
DDR5 pulls ahead over DDR4 significantly in average, 1% and 0.1% lows, If the price was like just ~10%-20% it could have been worth buying, but in this case it's around or more than double in terms of price.
Everyone that said 16gb of ddr4 is enough is only partly true because we said the same thing about 8gb of ram only a few years ago and now half the games today basically require 16gb. Games are approaching the point where in the next 2 years 16gb just won’t cut it.

Interesting. In CPU-bound games where the GPU cannot be fully utilized, DDR5 was up to 15% faster (at least at 1080p). It's completely pointless at 4K, and it would likely be pointless at 1440p with most graphics cards.

If you're spending the money on a 4k gaming monitor big enough to notice a difference and spending a minimum 3070 ti pc to run 4k games above 60fps. The cost of 32 gb ram is relatively low if you spend all that money on the rest

Im getting DDR5 probably arround 2025. Still too expensive Save money Get DDR4 buy a good Nvme so you can use DirectX 12 ultimate. You would get better performance out of that than just DDR5 with a Sata SSD

If you take any old game like gta 5 it will run best on ddr4 coz they are optimized for ddr4 and games like Microsoft flight simulator are designed to use every resorce of your PC so they will run good on ddr5

So what is the point here? Comparing faster memory to slower memory results in faster memory being faster. I wish someone would have compared similar speeds of each. For example slowest DDR5, the 4800 with fast DDR4 for example 4400, 4500, or 4000, ...or even the standard DDR4 3600. A comparison like that would tell if there are any speed improvements due to DDR5 DIMMs having two independent channels per DIMM vs one for DDR4.
on clean test bench 16gb of ram is still enough for vast majority of games so these results comes down mostly to its speed, some games likes tighter timings which ddr4 is still superior or higher bandwidth which ddr5 has. Whoever is building brand new mid or high end pc i would recommend 32gb maybe 64gb for top end systems.

it's not like next gen games will be unplayable or won't run on ddr4, for future proofing a good GPU and CPU and an acceptable amount of Ram should be your main focus, these generational DDR differences are really minor and not worth overspending
The faster DDR5 will only really shine when you have GPU overhead, that means if you have a high end GPU playing 1080p games and such where the GPU isn't fully utilized, so basically if its just for gaming, get DDR5 if you gonna be doing 1080p, if it's 4K you're after then at this point it doesnt really matter, just get whichever is cheaper

12 series CPU's have terrible compatibility with DDR5. I'd wager you'd see more accurate results with a 13th gen :) Plus, only using 1 memory channel of the CPU immediately puts the DDR5 at a disadvantage as the CPU is two channel compatible. 😀
The fastest ddr4 available is on pair with the fastest ddr5 available in gaming performance. The only advantage ddr5 have is more bandwidth for productivity.

It would be nice if you actually used good DDR5 kits not low end. There is now Corsair 6600MHz CL32 and G Skill 6400MHz CL32. You could also use good DDR4 like 4000MHz CL14...
The GPU is maxed out in most of these. Totally useless test when the cpu/ram is not even being taxed due to the GPU not being able to handle more data. The one game that does not max out the GPU immediately show fps differences, which is what you were after.
DDR5 is that expensive it makes no sense buying it unless youre going for a top end setup with like a 12900k and 3080ti and cant go anywhere else with hardware improvements.
DDR5 would be faster. There is more to DDR5 than just a raw increase in frequency and latency. The architecture is also much more advanced than DDR4 to say the least.

Of the tests I've seen the only one that the ram consumption was well balanced.

So what is the point here? Comparing faster memory to slower memory results in faster memory being faster.
I wish someone would have compared similar speeds of each. For example slowest DDR5, the 4800 with fast DDR4 for example 4400, 4500, or 4000, ...or even the standard DDR4 3600. A comparison like that would tell if there are any speed improvements due to DDR5 DIMMs having two independent channels per DIMM vs one for DDR4.
on clean test bench 16gb of ram is still enough for vast majority of games so these results comes down mostly to its speed, some games likes tighter timings which ddr4 is still superior or higher bandwidth which ddr5 has. Whoever is building brand new mid or high end pc i would recommend 32gb maybe 64gb for top end systems.
Definitely agree on the 32gb for new mid range systems. The price is so low there's just no more excuse for it anymore.

Why didn’t you test the DDR4 and DDR5 DIMMS with the same amount of RAM so that the only difference was speed? Because now I wonder how much of a role did the double amount of RAM for DDR4 have on the performance.

for now ddr4 is more than enough. but for future proofing, ddr5 is the way to go because all AAA games will be using dd45 soon
it's not like next gen games will be unplayable or won't run on ddr4, for future proofing a good GPU and CPU and an acceptable amount of Ram should be your main focus, these generational DDR differences are really minor and not worth overspending

The faster DDR5 will only really shine when you have GPU overhead, that means if you have a high end GPU playing 1080p games and such where the GPU isn't fully utilized, so basically if its just for gaming, get DDR5 if you gonna be doing 1080p, if it's 4K you're after then at this point it doesnt really matter, just get whichever is cheaper

12 series CPU's have terrible compatibility with DDR5. I'd wager you'd see more accurate results with a 13th gen :)
Plus, only using 1 memory channel of the CPU immediately puts the DDR5 at a disadvantage as the CPU is two channel compatible. 😀

You should use faster ddr4 to make the comparison even, 3200mhz is low for ddr4, there are some kits that can do 4000mhz cl16

It would be nice if you actually used good DDR5 kits not low end. There is now Corsair 6600MHz CL32 and G Skill 6400MHz CL32. You could also use good DDR4 like 4000MHz CL14...

RAM is not bottleneck systems yet, but it will in 2-3 years.
It's not a correct picture because you used DDR5 on the 32GB models and DDR4 for the 16GB... naturally DDR5 will be faster even in 16GB vs 16GB.
The GPU is maxed out in most of these. Totally useless test when the cpu/ram is not even being taxed due to the GPU not being able to handle more data. The one game that does not max out the GPU immediately show fps differences, which is what you were after.

DDR5 is that expensive it makes no sense buying it unless youre going for a top end setup with like a 12900k and 3080ti and cant go anywhere else with hardware improvements.

DDR5 would be faster. There is more to DDR5 than just a raw increase in frequency and latency. The architecture is also much more advanced than DDR4 to say the least.

@@qMimic на таймингах можно 10-20 кадров выиграть. Допустим у человека +-50 фпс, то если подобрать более удачные тайминги, то можно получить уже куда более комфортные 60-70 кадров, что неплохая прибавка, не потратив ни рубля, нужно просто пару часов посидеть.

I have 12GB RAM DDR5! Which means, I have the equivalent of 24GB RAM DDR4. 12GB RAM DDR4 is already overkill for the average user, even the average gamer. Lol.
Video editing is good at 8GB RAM DDR4 to 16GB RAM DDR4, maybe more. It varies on the software, and such.
Ethical hacking doesn't need that much to do things pretty quickly. A great GPU though would severely make running stuff much faster though. You can do that on a cloud, too.
If you're 3D modeling, you can do that on 16GB RAM DDR4 much better than 12GB RAM DDR4.

Ddr5 is better for sure probably...😅 but to expensive for now... if u are going to give 300 dollars for 32gigs ffr5 4800 5k ghz speed and 40, 4+ latency than buy 3866 4000 and more ddr4 cl 14 15 ram, I find 16 and 32 gigs 4kghz cl14 16gb kit and 32 gb kit, 32gb kit allmost the same price as that slowest ddr5 ram 4800mhz speed... no point of getting, ddr4 still to keep for at least 2 years no issues, and even if I get that 4kghz cl14 kit i will still save a lot on motherboard, same brand same model... not saying ddr5 stupid but if mobo prices are a bit lower and kits allso lower than i would go...

Test at 4K are bottlenecked by GPU so tests at 4k not useful and are a statistical error
