Hello Jake, I have watched a number of reviews for the Everlast Rocketbook, and yours is the best by far. You hit all the key points in a short amount of time. Thank you.
I've had my Rocketbook Everlast for quite a while now & frankly it got lost in my home office because I never use it. I found it a couple of days ago & had completely forgotten how to use it. Not only was this video a great refresher, your idea of using a permanent marker to create a weekly agenda page is brilliant!
I'm glad to hear that you've re-discovered it! I had a similar thing happen to me leading up to making this video, but since getting back into it and adapting it to me - I've kept it up. I have a whole playlist of 'Everything Rocketbook' that you may also find of interest. Also, my plan for next month is to try using a printer to more accurately print the templates onto the Rocketbook pages directly... So if custom templates interest you, stay tuned!
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! I appreciate it 👍 I hope that it helps. If you make some cool templates the me on Instagram @jakereeves.reviews ✌️ Also check out the Fusion notebook by Rocketbook. It has pre-made templates. I'll have a review out on it in the next 2 weeks or so

Great review, very helpful pros and cons about Rocketbook. Glad you took the time out to do this. A little confusing (replayed a few times) on explaining the suggestion to prevent/reduce smudges- don't use folded mode. I finally understood to open and lay both pages flat, commence writing on left page first until filled. Second, leave left page alone to dry and commence writing on the right page since it takes around 15 seconds or so for the ink to dry. The con here is that most people would prefer to write in folded mode (not fully laid out mode).Thank you for the review, and keep up the great work.

Hi Jake, I just bought the Rocketbook Core yesterday (4.4.22) and I just viewed your review today. I have a few questions for you: its been 3 years since you made this review. Are you still using your Rocketbook? Have you upgraded to something other than the Core? Do you use more than one style of Rocketbook?
Hi Lysandra, thanks for watching! Yes I am still using a Rocketbook, but I have jumped around a lot, trying different versions. You can see my evolution (as well as a few more tips) by checking out my Everything Rocketbook playlist. The Core is a classic! I love that you can make it your own using a permanent marker (I still do this all the time). Currently, I’m using their newest, hardcover, Rocketbook Pro (formerly: Axis). Welcome to the Rocketbook fan community! ✌️
The video is good. I could never get used to having to write with the substandard pen that is required for the notebook. If they changed it to enable other pens it might worth trying again.
I'm working on a video right now testing all of the Pilot FriXion options, but I understand what you are saying. The pen definitely takes a bit of getting used to if, like me, you are traditionally a ballpoint ink guy moreso than a gel pen guy.
Thanks. This was super informative and very professional. You have helped think through a lot. I was considering the fusion, but did not like a lot of the features. I did not think about using a permanent marker to create permanent pages that meet my particular needs.
I’m a lefty, and a lefty who has become used to the slight inconvenience of spiral notebooks (I’ve had to use many in my time), but one solution I found to the spiral problem is to simply write on the notebook sideways. When you scan, the app has a rotate option. It’s a few more taps than writing vertical, but to me that sure can beat the slight discomfort of a spiral pressing against your wrist if you aren’t used to it. By the way, I really like this video and your content. I’m trying to declutter and save more trees, and recently got my own Everlast. Best desicion I ever made.
I've got one of these and wound up going back to paper notebooks. The smudging always bothered me and the paper always felt too smooth, not papery enough. The icons on the bottom of the page were always super helpful though
I agree with you about needing to be sure you make a template of what you would like to create in permanent marker. I didn't do this and made a little mistake, which messed up the calendar agenda I created. Now, I just saw (12.8.2021) the "Everyday Planner" Rocketbook. I hope to get it and stop having to purchase a new planner every year. Thanks.
So... It's basically no different then writing on normal paper, with a normal pen, and taking a normal picture of it. Except you have to lug around a special notebook and special pen and wipe it off... So it's worse than just using a normal notebook in everyway? I just got one as a gift, but can't think of any reason to keep it or use it or want it
Lol that is actually brilliantly put! After reading your comment I can’t really disagree with you. You can literally write notes on a normal regular paper notebook and simply take a photo of it save it in a specific photo album for notes or upload the picture to Evernote or whatever note app you use. I guess if you’re for saving the environment and want to cut back on paper use that’s one thing, but if someone is looking for an alternative to digital note taking than simply old school pen and paper is tough to best. Especially since like you said you can just take a picture of it and store it that way.
I love the concept of the Rocketbook, but have some issues with it. The paper feels a bit too smooth/shiny for me and takes some getting used to. Also the front/back covers on it feel cheap. I'm curious to see how their new Axis notebook turns out.
Ya, those ate the biggest drawbacks of the current system. I'm looking forward to seeing the Axis as well. I've backed it on Kickstarter and will definitely be making a video eventually 👍✌
I've heard people have operated success cleaning accidental permanent marker stains with alcohol, but generally you should avoid alcohol on the surfaces because the page coating is vulnerable to damage.
If your palm will trail over the letters then it will be an issue. If you find you get marks on you hand when using a pencil writing on normal paper then you’ll definitely have issues with the wetness of the FriXion ink.
Hi jake i have just ordered 2 of these one for my partner and one for me i think there a brilliant idea i have ordered mine for £16 each off amazon thank you for doing a brilliant review i will let you know how i get on
Make sure you check out my 'Everything Rocketbook' playlist to see reviews of all the new notebooks + Tips on using them - they doubled their lineup in 2020 👍✌️
Can you go into your rocket book core and do a calendar. I am having a bit of a hard time making one. I can't figure out why. I got it because I love the mini for on the go. However, there isn't a lot of room for detailed notes.
You can save to iCloud, but not Apple Notes. See this link: rocketbookhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360044478993-iCloud-iOS-Only-#:~:text=Integrating%20Your%20Rocketbook%20App%20with,keep%20doing%20what%20you%20love. You may also find my video about all the destinations helpful. It is in my 'Everything Rocketbook' playlist ✌️
@@JakeReevesVideo Cheers for the response. I actually just tested under Big Sur you can scan documents directly into Apple Notes, where the handwritten notes can be searchable now. If you are in the Apple ecosystem the Rocketbook app becomes redundant but i love the idea of re-using the paper.
It's a tough call since the ink is so wet initially... Unless you're ok with writing upside down, sacrificing the search feature and inverting the pdf after imported
Thanks for a great review video. I’m just wondering if it can work with any of the frixtion markers and felt tips. I’d like to be able to add more color to my notes.
Thanks Amelia, I'm glad you liked it. The short answer is yes. I use pilot FriXion highlighters from time to time, but they can be a challenge to use without smudging the FriXion pen writing. I suspect the felt tips will be good! Check out my channel; I have a few different videos that touch on tips and other products to use with the RocketBook.
So I know there's the coating that can be damaged pretty fast by Frixion erasers. However, I'm worried that the pen tip itself will slowly scratch the page and leave "dent" marks or super-faint residue over time. After so much use, does your oldest notebook still feel like the pages are white and completely flat or does it look like you wrote pencil on a piece of notebook paper >100 times? Using the notebook for school notes next year!
It all depends on how hard you write. The pages are not impenetrable. After a year I notice some pages starting to discolour a bit if you hold them next to a new page, but that's to be expected. This is worse if you use coloured FriXion pens.
@@stevenmao6766 I can't give you a MPa value. But I generally just wrote normally, allowing the pen to glide like a gel pen and it seems to work well. When you write you'll probably be able to tell if you are pressing too hard.
I'm interested in this notebook, but I'm afraid that ~30 pages wouldn't even be enough for 2 days of classes and I don't think I would have time to wipe them every day. Are there versions with more pages?
Rocketbook says not to leave it for more than 30 days. I've found that it starts to stain the pages after that, especially if you use the red FriXion pens. Something about that colour makes the staining more prominent. It doesn't become unusable, but the page just looks dirtier.
Hi Jake. Never heard of this before. It randomly appeared on Amazon and my intrigue led me to this review! May I ask - 5 years later, are you still using this as frequently as you once were? If yes: are there any notable upgrades/improvements you can comment on or; If no; What are you using now/instead, if anything? Thanks 😊👍
Hey, I still use it occasionally, but not as much as I used to. Once I switched to using a Kindle Scribe as my agenda, my Rocketbook use took a hit - I still have their Beacons in my office though, and the Rocketbook Pro was a neat development that I keep around 👍🏻
@JakeReevesVideo Hi Jake. Appreciate the response. I'll take a look at the other products you've mentioned. It's actually a gift consideration for my other half. She has notepads for everything, everywhere so looking for a solution which has the least catches or technicalities (ie: when you mentioned the write feel was "off" and requiring approx 15s to dry, I knew that would cause an issue because... I know what's she's like ie: unwilling to adapt or make the relevant considerations 😂). Thanks again for taking time to reply and hope all is going well for you re: qualifications, chosen profession etc ❤️👍
What about the Remarkable 2? You wouldn't need water to erase. There are multiple eraser functions; erase free form, erase selected area, and erase all... you can even use the eraser end of the stylus to erase just like a pencil!
Wondering...If I take a note, say several weeks ago, and load them to my cloud based storage choice, can I bring that image up and write on it again on my phone or computer?
I love your review for its thorough coverage and unwasted words, well done! My hope was to find someone who addressed a claim I ran across about having left one of these in a car and heat erasing all the notes. Do you know if that’s a problem with these or if it’s another one of those unfounded complaints?
Thanks! I try to get to the point in my reviews, so I’m glad you like that 👍 Yes, that is a concern. The ink you have to use is Pilots FriXion erasable ink. It is thermosensitive though (disappears when heated and reappears when cooled) - so I don’t recommend leaving notes in a hot car. You can try freezing the notes to bring back the ink, but I’ve heard mixed reviews regarding how well this works.
I've been considering this for s time. I don't need it for uploading. I want to use this as a bullet journal planner. A year at a glance, a monthly calendar and tracker. I'd need the year at a glance to last about a year, the month calendar / trackers a month and the weekly, a week. My question is will this be do-able or is it easier to just use a composition book as I have been? Like can you leave the ink on the pages for an extended length if time?
Great question Michael. I'm actually just writing the script for a video on the new Everlast Fusion notebook and have found myself in a similar situation, where I don't really care about the upload as much as just using it as a reusable notebook. I just erased some writing from one of my Everlast notebooks that has been there for a few months and there are definitely some shadows that remain from the lettering. The company recommends not letting the ink stay for more than 30-days without erasing, so you may be out of luck. Having said that, I am playing around with just tracking monthly and uploading and erasing accordingly, which may work for you. It doesn't solve the problem of planning something for more than about a month in advance, but it's a good compromise. I hope this helps. And thanks for watching!
Hi, thank you for the video 😊 When you scan a certain new written page, can it be added into an exiting notebook? Because I don't want to have every time a new single pdf/jpeg Thanks
Hi Jake I got my rocketbook! Thanks to your review My only complaint which you do mention is the smearing. I read that it take 15 secs to dry but thats a long time to wait when trying to take pages of notes. Was just wondering if u came across any other FriXion pens that dont smear or have shorter drier time?
I'm glad to hear that you found my videos useful. Thanks! The drying time is definitely a problem of you are trying to take notes and need to flip the page. I'm actually in the process of testing every FriXion pen, marker and highlighter for a new video that should be out in the next few weeks, so stay tuned. The dry time is definitely something that I want to test for each type. Having said that, I don't expect a dramatic change from 15 seconds. The best advise I would give for now is maybe try using the 0.5mm pens instead of the 0.7mm ones, if you were using them, because they produce thinner lines, which should dry a little faster. Other than that, fans significantly improve drying time - but are impractical for coursework... Sorry there isn't a clear cut solution yet. And I hope you still enjoy your Rocketbook ✌️
Jake Reeves thank you for all your videos about these topics!! I recently bought a CORE and some fine-tipped FriXion markers (they’ll be in the mail Monday). I used the Rocketbook Wave about a year ago, but my biggest frustrations with it were how quickly it deteriorated in the microwave and how easy it was to dent/scratch the pages. That’s why I’m trying the markers, which I’m guessing will take even longer to dry. Looking forward to that video. New subscriber!
Thank you so much for your videos, Jake, I totally agree that your Everlast reviews are the best. I have a quick question, if you can render a comment I would so appreciate it. I started some time ago using a very mild baby wipe instead of water system to erase in my Everlast. It seems to work very well, but I don't know if I'm harming my pages in the long run. I just ordered and will get today a new Rocketbook "Smart" so I thought I'd get your opinion. The wipes I use [my grandbaby's!] are "au naturelle"! My Everlast is 3 years old, so I do see "ghosts" at times and on certain heavily used pages, but I don't want to cause that in my new notebook if I'm harming pages with using the wipes. Any thoughts? Thank you so much for all of your help!
Hi Linda, thanks! I'm glad to hear that you find my Rocketbook content helpful. In general, I don't recommend using baby wipes on Rocketbooks because anything other than water may damage the surface coating of the pages, so you'll want to be careful and make sure you check what ingredients are in the wipes. Having said that, if you have been using them for 3 years and aren't running into any issues other than a little ghosting, then the natural ingredients may be inert when contacting the synthetic pages. A little ghosting in heavy areas is to be expected. I try to take really good care of my Rocketbooks, as I'm sure you do, and I still have ghosting in areas where ink has pooled heavily. I think the ghosting is just something that we have to live with if you leave ink in the notebook for any period of time unfortunately. I hope this helps! All the best!

Do these only work with block letter printing or does it work with cursive as well?
Both to varying degrees - neatness is the most important. And printing doesn’t need to be block letters. Don’t expect excellent transcription though.
I got the spiral on the top I recommend that one for lefties it's nice they thought of us left handed users
Thank you for a succinct yet thorough review!
You're welcome Gina. Thank you for watching!
Hi, you're good at this keep doing reviews
Thanks! I appreciate it 👍 Thanks for taking the time to comment ✌️
No problem Rob 👍 Good luck with the decision ✌️
I’m a lefty, and a lefty who has become used to the slight inconvenience of spiral notebooks (I’ve had to use many in my time), but one solution I found to the spiral problem is to simply write on the notebook sideways. When you scan, the app has a rotate option. It’s a few more taps than writing vertical, but to me that sure can beat the slight discomfort of a spiral pressing against your wrist if you aren’t used to it.
By the way, I really like this video and your content. I’m trying to declutter and save more trees, and recently got my own Everlast. Best desicion I ever made.
Thanks for sharing this tip! I'm sure it will help some others as well 👍 And I appreciate the feedback ✌️
This is the best review I ever seen. Will get one of these. Wondering if you`re still using it daily? Thank you
Thanks - I used it for years, but have transitioned to using the Kindle Scribe as my primary agenda now ✌🏻
Really great review. Subscribed to the channel after seeing this good quality work!!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it 👍
I've got one of these and wound up going back to paper notebooks. The smudging always bothered me and the paper always felt too smooth, not papery enough. The icons on the bottom of the page were always super helpful though
The smudging does take some getting used to for sure
I agree with you about needing to be sure you make a template of what you would like to create in permanent marker. I didn't do this and made a little mistake, which messed up the calendar agenda I created. Now, I just saw (12.8.2021) the "Everyday Planner" Rocketbook. I hope to get it and stop having to purchase a new planner every year. Thanks.
I just ordered one yesterday as well to check it out 👍
@@JakeReevesVideo let us know how you like it
Will do 👍
Thanks for a well thought out review!
neat, let me know when it comes in standard sizes
We use these at my work! They’re so cool!
@@JakeReevesVideo The one thing I can't figure out with the Axis is if you can bend it backwards or does it only open to be two pages?
You can. It had been designed to fully flip. I had a call with the product team and that was one of the big features they talked about.
If you use permanent marker are you able to clean it off with alcohol? Or does it effect the quality of the pages?
I've heard people have operated success cleaning accidental permanent marker stains with alcohol, but generally you should avoid alcohol on the surfaces because the page coating is vulnerable to damage.
Thanks; I was about to ask the very same question!! Then I found this one! 🙂
Great review. I am so excited to receive mine.
Thanks! Enjoy it ✌️
What about writing in arabic do you think it would smudge to often thank you
If your palm will trail over the letters then it will be an issue. If you find you get marks on you hand when using a pencil writing on normal paper then you’ll definitely have issues with the wetness of the FriXion ink.
Great review! I'm trying to figure out how to be more cost effective and environmentally friendly for nursing school, this is definitely helpful.
Thanks Sofia! I'm glad you enjoyed the review 👍
very useful review. I am left-handed so I will think about it again.
Did you ever try the Remarkable 2 tablet?
Hi jake i have just ordered 2 of these one for my partner and one for me i think there a brilliant idea i have ordered mine for £16 each off amazon thank you for doing a brilliant review i will let you know how i get on
Awesome Jennifer 👌 I hope you enjoy them. It's a really neat product 👍
This is marvelous 😮😮😮😍😍😍
Very helpful note for online classes...
That it is. I'm nearly 3 years into using the system now and still going strong 👍 Thanks for watching ✌
Well done video. Hits the highlights of the rocketbook
Excellent review and very informative! Thank you.
You're very welcome Catherine 👍
As always succinct and to the point! Lots of good info! Have one on the way for a bujo. :)
Thanks! Enjoy the bujo! Always a good use of the Rocketbook 🚀
A definite must for 2021!
Thanks for the review. One thing I wanted to know can you save the notes to Apple notes?
Neat! Good to know 👍
What's the quality of OCR like by the 2023 standards? I mean for someone with more or less reasonably clear handwriting.
I use this for writing down guitar tabs when learning songs for when I'm focusing on a certain part of the song. It's good.
Nice use case 👍
great info - thanks! I might reconsider purchasing one because I am left handed.
It's a tough call since the ink is so wet initially... Unless you're ok with writing upside down, sacrificing the search feature and inverting the pdf after imported
That’s an amazing review. But I still want to know what’s the average durability on these notebooks and pens.
It is great video, easy to understand and direct to the point.
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback 👍 I'm glad you liked it ✌️
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks mate! I think I'll buy one.
I'm glad the video could help Peter! If you are buying direct from rocketbook check the description to save 10% 👍
@@JakeReevesVideo well already bought one from a local source :)
Sounds good, I hope you enjoy it!
So what's the reasonable pressure I should put on the page to make minimal dents and also should I be using thicker points (0.7mm)?
@@stevenmao6766 I can't give you a MPa value. But I generally just wrote normally, allowing the pen to glide like a gel pen and it seems to work well. When you write you'll probably be able to tell if you are pressing too hard.
Fusion series has several templates built in. I think I’m going to invest in one.
Nice 👍 Rocketbook offers lots of templates now, so make sure you find the right one for your needs ✌
Awesome video; thanks for sharing, I am sold
^-^
Really impressed by your review
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it 👍
This is really revolutionary
I'll make Note of that.
I'm interested in this notebook, but I'm afraid that ~30 pages wouldn't even be enough for 2 days of classes and I don't think I would have time to wipe them every day. Are there versions with more pages?
The new Fusion notebook that Rocketbook has released has 42 pages, but it switches between 7 line styles. So may or may not work for you.
Just buy one, I think it would be enough and if you realize it's not enough, take another one :)
Let's say I write in the notebook and leave the page un-erased for a few weeks. Will it still be easy to erase?
Rocketbook says not to leave it for more than 30 days. I've found that it starts to stain the pages after that, especially if you use the red FriXion pens. Something about that colour makes the staining more prominent. It doesn't become unusable, but the page just looks dirtier.
Hi Jake.
Never heard of this before. It randomly appeared on Amazon and my intrigue led me to this review! May I ask - 5 years later, are you still using this as frequently as you once were?
If yes: are there any notable upgrades/improvements you can comment on or;
If no; What are you using now/instead, if anything?
Nice video! I already love the frixion pens, but this is the next level ;)
I'm glad you like the video. You may also like my 'Everything Rocketbook' playlist 👍
It's a really cool notebook, but my issue is that you cant use fountain pens with it.
Ya, unfortunately I haven't been able to find a workaround for fountain pens yet... 😕
Nice an thorough. Good luck in your schooling.
Hi, thank you for the video 😊
When you scan a certain new written page, can it be added into an exiting notebook?
Because I don't want to have every time a new single pdf/jpeg
Thanks
I'm left handed and was trying to look for a review that mentioned smudging... I guess that's a no for me :) Thanks!
I'm glad you found what you needed to know. Good luck in your search ✌
Very helpful, thank you Jake
You're welcome Russell, I'm glad to hear that this could help you. That's the goal of my reviews 👍
Hi Jake
I got my rocketbook! Thanks to your review
My only complaint which you do mention is the smearing.
@@blakeearth thanks! That video is live now, so you can find it on my channel 👍 Thanks for the sub!
@@JakeReevesVideo Thank you so much, Jake!
You're welcome Linda 👍
Good idea. But I’d hold off on powder or moisturizer.
Great review!, I'm rocketbook user and all that you said is true. Congrats!
