Hello from Indonesia Many thanks for your information about how to connect and register my Canon to my smartphone. I was confused because always failed to connect, but when I watched this video, finally I can connect it well. Once again, thank you so much, mate 😊
The best thing of leaving the bluetooth on all the time is you can pull photo/videos off at anytime even if the camera is in a nearby bag. It doesn't take much power at all, of course I'm using an older camera 6d mark II.
I just used the Canon Camera Connect app to update the firmware on my R8. It found the correct image file online, downloaded it to my phone, copied it to the camera, and then I said "Yes" when the camera asked if I wanted to update the firmware. The camera updated the firmware and rebooted. Very smooth, finds the right image and no copying image files to SD card.
Excellent Jason, I downloaded something when I purchased my R10 a while back but it wasn't like this and nothing about bluetooth was mentioned, so I'll follow what you're mentioning and as always, many thanks
Just used it with R6 mkII and updated firmware with it also, great app. It appears you still have to put update files for lenses on the SD cards though, no biggie
Thanks for this video - new subscriber here! Quick question on the airplane mode piece - why couldn’t you stop the trickle drain by just disconnecting the Bluetooth when the camera isn’t in use?
As you already touched the connectivity options, and as far as you have an iPhone with Lightning, please cover a new MFi option (made for iPhone certified accessory). Previously it was impossible to connect EOS R cams directly to iPhone with a regular USB-C to Lightning cable for importing photos like it may be done with iPad Pro with USB-C. I’ve been waiting for iPhone with USB-C exclusively for that. But I was surprised when found an info R6 Mark II is a MFi-qualified device, and it is presumably possible now. Could you cover it? Thank you.
Thanks for Tutorials, Can you please do a Tutorial for Canon model RP / R6 M2 how to find shutter count. Lot of tools online does not work including Apple APP shutter Count. Prefer to do it on Windows PC. Thanks.
hi Jason, thanks for this clear explanation of the Camera Connect app. However I have still a question. Do one has to turn off (or on) the airplane mode every time you use (or stop using) the Camera Connect app?
According to Canon yes, or else the bluetooth will stay on and kill your batter faster. You can also turn the bluetooth off and on as apposed to airplane mode...
Would you choose the Sony fx3 or the r6 mark ii for documentary/vlog content? For some reason, I enjoy using canon cameras more than Sony. Great Content
I was wondering if there is some way to connect the camera to an iPhone via some sort of a cable (HDMI, USB-C), and stream on the phone during video recording. This will be much better than using the small screen that comes with the camera. I know there is always an option to just use an external display, but canon doesn't support touch screen with external displays. That is why I was thinking the iPhone solution would be ideal.
Hello and Yes you can if you use the USB-C port on the side of the camera and plug the other end into your computer. I'll make a video on that with the Canon R8 soon...
Does this eventually work to connect to your iPhone? I know a lot of people do say it doesn’t work, and I don’t care if it takes a month as long as I eventually get it to work. How long did it take to transfer your videos and camera roll to the phone?
It takes a while to transfer video files, so I would recommend getting a SD card read for your phone instead! They are cheap and it's super easy... geni.us/npvup
Great vid, stellar concept! However, I tried the same with a Samsung android phone and Google play store, the app does not offer R6 Mark II at all in the drop down menu. Plus it installs with the last language installed (in case you are using multiple languages for your touchscreen keyboard). Such a disgrace for Canon or whoever is responsible for this app (again, android version).
Hi Jason, When you shoot RAW using a profile style and then transfer it to the iPhone without changing the file format, do the colors of your photos change? The results of the photo do not match or do not follow the color profile style. Do you have the same thing? Thank you for sharing and have a nice day Jason!
The app is not very good. It worked well with the Canon 70d. When I Switch to aeroplane mode , it doesn't go back to Bluetooth mode. Always have to restore app. Can't rely on the app using the R6 mark ii
Well it looks like for certain newer cameras you can transfer the firmware to the camera. So I'm thinking the camera would then do the update from that point. Cameras supported currently are R6 II, R7, R10, R3, but I can't seam to find specific instructions on that procedure at this time...
Hi , when I am sending 4k footage it doesn’t send 4 k footage to my phone ( it sends fhd 30fps footage , this happens also when I am sending a 120 fps videos )
Not sure in this case as I did not notice that when using. Could just be the phone being taxed a bit and yes it it normal for phones to get warm with extended use in general.
for me it's a nightmare ... I tried to connect with my R6m2, and it does connect but when I want to switch to wifi connection in order to be able to import images it fails each time. I know how the app works, I used it with my EOS 250D in the past and it was perfectly smooth, but this wifi error is not going away ... I even made a phone reset but didn't change a thing unfortunately. Canon really needs to fix their apps.
Is it just me or is it a nightmare to pair this camera on Android? Tried 2 different phones, one with Android 8 and other with Android 9 and it didn't work. Then I tried for the first time on a Iphone 11 and it worked straight away! Plus the UI of the Camon Camera Connect App it's nicer on Apple. Looks like Canon doesn't care about Android users.
Well, some would say the same about the Sony App.... I agree the apps are not ideal and don't work as smoothly as I would prefer to say the least, but they do work with some friction.
Thanks again for the great tutorials Jay - have a great holiday season!
Thank you Pete and you as well :)
Thanks - I needed this, I was doing it right but just not waiting long enough for Wifi to connect
Hello from Indonesia

This is so cool. I’m enjoying taking selfies using the remote.

That is awesome the here and Sony is slowly moving in that direction which makes sense...
This is an ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL VIDEO! (sorry had to put it in uppercase letters)
Wow, thank you!
Thanks! Very informative.
To be honest, it's about time Canon sorted out a decent app for this.
Great tutorial! I appreciate you using the time to do it. I would also say it’s better than the Fuji X app imho.
Design and reaction of the app are years old :D But cant wait to try it tomorrow. Got mine R6ii today.
Nice 👍
Great videos. I'm a 30 year amateur who is learning Canon Eos R6 Mark ii
Excellent Jason, I downloaded something when I purchased my R10 a while back but it wasn't like this and nothing about bluetooth was mentioned, so I'll follow what you're mentioning and as always, many thanks
Hey Terry thanks for the comments and yeah it's worth trying out for sure!
Omg😮 another great video!!!!! Thank you Jason I love the way you explain everything thank you!!!
Thanks for watching!

That should also work I agree, but Canon recommends putting the camera in airplane mode....

I don't have the Canon R6 Mark II anymore, but I will try this out on the next Canon I get!

Sony FX3 100% and I also enjoy using the Canon cameras!
@@Jason_Hermann Thanks

Great video! Just curious how far can you move your phone away from the camera to use the live view function?
I'm not exactly sure, but at least 10 feet I would say...
Finally I found a video explaining the pairing in detail. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
excellent tutorial who helps me a lot... thank you!
You are very welcome :)
Great video, I hope the R10 can do this with my cell phone - its on the way
Yup it sure can Zack!!
Excelente! thanks.
Great! It's weird how the phone/app can pick Video vs Photo. It overrides your video/photo button on the camera?
Yeah it overrides the camera setting in that regard.
Great video!
Thanks!
Thank you Jason! Can we also use Canon camera for zoom meetings instead of the smartphone camera?
Hello and Yes you can if you use the USB-C port on the side of the camera and plug the other end into your computer. I'll make a video on that with the Canon R8 soon...
Informative, thank you!

Could I mount my iPhone or iPad mini to my camera and use this app as a monitor? or is there to much of a lag?

It is possible to set up two Canon 500 Ds and sync with an IPhone 15 for an interview?
great !!! how can i connect to an i phone using a cable? wich one is the best? thanks

Hi, I’m having a Canon 40D atm, but I can not find it on Canon camera connect
6:47 I haven't RAW image save format menu on my S21 Ultra.
Same on my Oppo Reno 6 5g, it's a iOS and Android difference 😅
i followed every single steps but keep getting a “pairing failed” message. do u know how to solve it? thx
can the same process be applied with canon 650D? I would like to know as a creator on a budget.
No
Hey bro my photos(raw) are blank while i import from R6ii to my macbook ! its just showing a white screen is there any solution?
dommage que l'on puisse pas streamer directement depuis l'application youtube par exemple
Thank you
You're welcome :)

Why does the Ap asking me to pay to use it?
It's pushing the cloud service probably, you don't need that!
Can the camera connect to iPad Pro ?
Yes
Good luck re-establishing a connection when your phone goes to sleep.
lol, yeah it's a pain but reconnects pretty quick on my iPhone. Need to set the screen saver to a long time when using for this type of thing also
You can always change it so your phone won’t go to sleep it’s pretty easy

1:26 any finger will work.
lol
Canon is the worst in the business when it comes to software
Well, some would say the same about the Sony App.... I agree the apps are not ideal and don't work as smoothly as I would prefer to say the least, but they do work with some friction.
what a crap of app
