I never owned a PS2. I kinda wish I did though because it had an insanely good library of games. I didn't get to play MGS3 and Shadow of the Colossus until the HD collections on PS3, and I missed classics like Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven altogether.
I plan to get a gaming PC once prices stabilize and then I'll try emulating the stuff I missed.

My policy: buy games when system is in its prime. When a system is discontinued, start pirating any games I missed.
I'm not paying the same price as a brand new game that just released to get a 15 year old game second hand where the dev and publishers don't get anything.
Right? It's important for games that stayed in one part of the world, or were made by a company that no longer exists, or were exclusive to arcades. Sometimes even all of the above. As a fighting game aficionado I can list literally HUNDREDS of games that would be lost to time without emulation and I discover more constantly.
Master's Fury (the actual good game the kusoge Master's Fighter was based on) just became fully compatible with MAME this year.
Touhou in japan is a big thing but here it's basically impossible to get it overseas the only way is piracy
In India, there are many anime that are not available, even on a paid netflix sub. My moral policy is this. If it cannot be legally gotten in your country in any way, pirate it. You legally cannot buy it anyway.

Hopefully they are planning to add emulation ( disc reading and all) to the PS5 and not just make games a part of the PS now collection. As a sony fanboy, I've always hated how little they care about BC. They've never had it in the consoles long enough, they quit ps2 to ps4. Xbox does a much better job preserving their legacy

Right now a lot of game piracy is done by people in countries whose currencies and living prices are so bad that they have to sacrifice a big chunk of their monthly income for games.

Though thankfully as long as you stay on top of replacing problematic components, mainly capacitors, they'll last as long as at least until the actual traces start to rot, which in newer systems at least they have a form of lacquer layered on them specifically to protect them from oxidation.

And why I will almost always lean to physical copies and physical copies are superior sure I can buy so many digital copies and store them on a drive but discs will let me play them offline unless it says digital download required

@Source Dasher it doesn’t, but if you delete a game or the hard drive corrupts, eventually it will be lost if not properly archived. Physical games are objectively better than digital games in almost every aspect, the only thing that digital exceeds in is resources used and convenience for the player.
@@lantcm613 digital copies are usually linked to some kind of account. If the game gets deleted or there's a hard drive corruption you can just re-download the game.
Physical copies can also be broken, id go as far to say they are more susceptible to damage than digital. Most games are on disk, and those can get scratched and worn out pretty easily (thats assuming you're using the disk often, if its just sitting around than yes it'll last, and this goes for both digital and physical.) Even so, *both* mediums can be backed up into some kind of storage for emulation or preserving it (hard drive, disk, online storage, SD card)
No, physical games are not "objectively better than digital games in almost every aspect." Its just preference. Physical games are more for trading and collecting if you're into that.
3:19 some games require constant log in from their networks also.. Ex: Ubisoft games.
Then theres the Tony Hawk fiasco, where the final copy of the disc didn't even contain anything playable. It was basically a physical link to a digital copy.

It's a constant battle with time, (disks and storage tech) and companies not giving a damn. Why won't a company simply put out a system release patch? One that allows you to put your disks on the hard drive (no key disk) and allows you to make archival backups of your games.
In America at least, Congress has deemed that all console and computer owners are allowed 1 (one) archival backup of each game YOU own. Stupid company bastards try to tell you that isn't true but it is.
It's all about selling you that game over, and over, and over. The gaming industry is due for a correction soon.
Edit: I own and maintain about 60 PS1, 150 PS2, 110 PS3, 60 PS4, 55 PSP, and 70 PS Vita games (physical) so this is a very big issue for myself and other collectors.
@@deathstrike unfortunately part of the console business model is being as anti-piracy as possible and this usually includes preventing ripping of physical games. Idk if in this day and age it is that relevant, but looking back at the Dreamcast, I can see where the fear comes from. And we all know how well those work 🙄
@@UtiuNikita Thank god ps3 emulation is getting better over time. The people at RPCS3 are saints. If you want to counter anti-piracy/anti-rips there's sites in which you can download a validation file to play the game without the need of owning a ps3.

Imagine a dead CMOS battery bricking a whole system. Every PC I've ever owned the CMOS battery died after 3-5 years. Any time the console is sitting in storage unplugged, it's chewing through that battery. Any new old stock consoles are probably going to be bricked in no time. Big yikes, Sony.

The cool thing about discs is that you can also play those videogames offline. Alot of games on steam require a internet connection which pisses me off...
Backwards compatibility should be a requirement

@GoldenOtaku 79 Yeah mostly all of my games are digital. I have three games that are on disc lol. I have heard tho you can transfer digital games through hard drives and what not to the next gen consoles or to just keep them from not corrupting.

I'm glad I know a good technician for the ps3's. It's good to give your ps3 a good regular yearly maintenance, replace everything that needs to be replaced, renew the thermal paste and also replace parts like the CMOS battery.
In the future we'll be able to print out pcb boards for the ps3 probably as well just like people do it nowadays with the Wii so preserving it will be more easier in the future if Sony won't want to do it themselves.
Finally someone who understands the physical hype.

There was never no hype about it If your a normal person you would still get discs because 1 its cheaper 2 its playable on multiple accounts , Getting digital is like being a fat person on one of those shopping cart moped things and is to lazy to change the disc when playing a different game

As a person who mainly played on PS3 as a kid, this hurts to see. And the infamous series is very close to my heart, so if we lose that I'm deadass going to mourn that loss.

Yes physical is always better. What muta forgot to mention, even if the physical disc will get destroyed at one point you can still dump those files. Yes you need to have a modded system or emulator for that but still. Game preservation is very important.

@@JJKfan.. my ps3 hen is hacked I got a store called zerbr store I downloaded games and licenses I play rainbow six Las Vegas 2 and I got free dlc maps and mods for black ops 1 using multiman just for the mods some programmer gave me a zombies mod menu

This could all be solved if they just ported the popular games from each generation. Like take a survey of the top 50-100 games of each gen and port them to ps5.

If you disconnect yet have physical disc of game and have dlc installed but forget to set 2nd ps4 as primary , the disc version gets locked too .
I discovered this recently with horizon zero dawn disc and frozen wilds dlc.

@@De3bb00 It's true though. Sony is forcing many hands with their decisions over the last console generation. Especially in regards to backward compatibility. They continuously drop the ball on that front as if they simply forget about the legacy console market every time they release a new console... It's even worse when we see that in fact the legacy games could INDEED be software emulated on their latest consoles (PS4 & PS3), but they just never put in the work to make it official because there's no money in it. Microsoft gets it! I don't know why Sony doesn't... So if Sony won't preserve their own games, the Internet will...

Also, blu ray disc rot is really rare. Keeping them at room temperature, scratchless, will basically guarentee its safe for at least our life span. That being said, there are some Warner bros presses where the glue was of terrible quality and will result in failure.

Can you buy two Cmos batteries and run wires off one battery and solder them to the pads to provide power to the motherboard while changing the battery so no power loss occurs. (For those that have a working system and wanna change the battery before it goes dead) and once the battery is changed you remove the wires.
