The fact that they still think it's just a game kinda pisses me off.
Probably because that's what they are used to, all of them were gamers and this whole world reminds them of it. So they naturally act like they are in a game. Naofumi was more of a book worm so when he got to this world he started imagining himself as in one of the main characters in those books he read, thinking this was the start of an amazing adventure. What made him see the world differently was actually thanks to Myne or Bitch depending on what you prefer. She shattered his vision of a perfect world to reveal the truth, that he had simply left one unfair cruel world in exchange for another with a whole new lot of problems that come with it. He wasn't pampered and given special treatment like the others, he wasn't worshipped like the others. He quickly dropped the idea of being a hero or even trying to be early on and decided to try and just survive so he can go home one day. Gradually that changed when he met Raphtalia, who became the first person he wanted to protect, and Filo and Melty gave him motivation to protect everyone. Essentially, Naofumi was forced to live as an ordinary person in a flawed world. He became grounded and learned quickly this isn't a game or a fantasy story. His experience of being falsely accused and it's repercussions were the start of his hero's journey which is shown throughout season 1. The other heroes are the exact opposite, treated like gods, worshipped, praised and can't do anything wrong, like they are the protagonists in a game. They want to be the best player and are always competing for the title. The other heroes have yet to go through hardships like Naofumi has or even make strong bonds with the people of this world, and they are much weaker because of this. They have no true motivations to fight, they have never been forced to think about it like Naofumi, who started with nothing and was left to think about why he fights or who he is fighting for in a world that hates him. He built himself back up after being torn down, now standing tall as a true hero. Ironically, Myne actually helped create the Shield Hero and his path to get stronger.

Little do they know that he actually had the slowest progression rate among them. He just knows how to use his abilities and has a reliable team. I've played games where I fought classes and players with superior stats but also couldn't fight for shit, and they made those same stupid excuses...

Benjamin because the shield is the strongest of the legendary weapons despite being a shield it hates being called weak and useless just like the main one using it the shield has a mind of its own and when it’s angry it wants everything to die even friends it tends to take control of the one using it when naufumi was getting angry the shield was the one asking the questions about hate cause it felt his pain although it doesn’t really work with the dragons rage tho cause it was weaker than the shields rage

Naofumis gonna get used to using that shield so much that by the time he maxes out his level all he will need is that to beat people. You know that anime Horizon in the middle of nowhere right? The scene where that robot maid is fighting the giant robots with slabs of stone? That's what I imagined it would be like.
The part when it looks like Naofumi is crying, but it's Raphtalia and then they embrace brings me back.
「Act Ecchi Nii-San」 Air Strike Shield is basically that early game ability that's so intuitive and useful you'll be using it throughout the whole game

Everytime I watch The Rising of the Shield Hero I feel like I love it more... The animation, the characters (even Malty looks nice)... I just love it so much, the way they fight (everyone, not just Naofumi), the way the other characters help Naofumi (just look at the end of the opening)... It just makes me so happy I was born in these times...

The more I watch this opening, the more I realize how deep the opening actually is, especially in the beginning half. It shows Naofumi and Raphtalia, both knee-deep in water (tragedy), with rain continuing to pour down on them. They are then both submerged in tragedy, as it cuts in gray to each of their individual struggles. Both defeated and sobbing, at the brink of giving up all hope, they reach out. Then, a ray of hope washes it all away as they reach out, find eachother's hands, connect, and save eachother from their despair. That's my interpretation anyways, man I love this opening so much. It really does a good job at emphasizing how important Raphtalia and Naofumi are to eachother, and how much they rely on one another, both physically in battle, and mentally. They saved eachother, and are so much stronger together than they were individually. Had their hands not met, Raphtalia would still be tormneted and shackled physcially, as would Naofumi mentally. Sorry for weebing out, feel free to flame me.

ACTUALLY THOUGH! I'm surprised at how much the anime is invested in the bond and trust between Naofumi and Raphtalia. Which I am super grateful for. I enjoy this much more than pointless fanservice for the sake of shipping or fans or whatever.

I just love the part where they come together and help him lift the shield. Great example of team work right here. I absolutely loved this show.

I love how that last little bit symbolized how Naofumi's been shouldering a lot of the burden up so far, but now he's not alone and has people who can (and will) help him do that.
As someone who reads the manga, I am very excited for the upcoming arcs and character introductions. It was cool to see them being teased in this OP.
As someone who reads the Light Novel, I am extremely excited for the rest of the series. Wish the pacing was a little slower at times, but meh, the show is still really good on its own.

That seems like a weird stop point. I assumed they would end in the royal revenge (right before the island arc), but guess not. Or maybe they'll pull a Goblin Slayer and change the order of the arcs.

There are very specific things this anime brings into the conversation that rarely get exposure. Anime is unique in this way.
Many anime is light-years ahead of Hollywood in so many ways. And it's fine if you don't agree. But no need to be harsh. You don't know me and I don't know you. But I wish you well, friend.

I like how in the first OP the other 3 heroes were depicted unleashing big magic attacks and such, whereas in this OP they are shown fighting normally. Really shows how as the series progresses it goes from the other heroes being stronger than Naofumi to them being much weaker.
It's true , they're always showing some new stuff in each op. It really depicts that Naofumi does most of the work and that the other heroes are just weak and useless.
But this opening also has a depressed atmosphere at first but it's lightened up by Raphtalia embracing Naofumi.
It also shows the teamwork they're putting in the final battle with the pope at 1:20.
There's so much I didn't analyze in this opening despite watching it many many many times.
Favorite things about this op:
- The companions literally and figuratively lightening Naofumi's burden holding up the shield
- The confident hand clasp and smug look as he dispels the shield
Naofumi : how can I fight with only a shield?
