This is great, I have my mother in laws model L from 1926, I need to clean or and sell it. This will make it so much easier, knowing how to properly clean it. It’s a real beauty and would be a shame to damage it. Now I know how. Thanks.

I bought Hyrum's tools and they work wonderfully. I clean my piano every time I'm about to have it tuned- 3-4 times a year. Yes, I am obsessed. Yes, I have the cleanest piano, ever. I'm glad you guys talked about how dusty the action gets or doesn't get. I've been wondering if I should get in there to clean, but it seems like maybe not such a good idea? (Yes, I am a clean freak.)
Just wanted to tell you that I got your advertisement for your piano class when I clicked on one of your videos and that is so cool.
"just cosmetic" is nice to know! But so appreciate this video! We just finished a small construction project. Piano closed, with it's Steinway cover on, plastic wrapped, and moving blanket atop that. And pushed out of the music room and into the front hall. Plastic wrapped the opening of that doorway. STILL, dust was on the underneath of the closed lid when we finally opened her back up. Crazy ... dust is like Covid ... it's everywhere!
I have cats who LOVE to sleep on top of the piano. This is great info so I can keep it relatively clean between servicing.

How would you clean an upright piano?
"It'll snow outside and then the A4 is out of tune." Oh, I feel you. I'm in charge of tuning and maintaining pianos at a ballet studio and those rooms are constantly in flux.

15:23 - how to touch up a unison. I have been touching up my own unisons for years, too. It's something every piano player should know how to do. You don't need a concert hall tight or recording studio tight unison, but even a little is better than nothing. String players and guitar players tune their own strings all the time; no reason a piano player can't touch up a unison! :)

Good instruction, but I don't have the room to remove the lid on my Model 'B, ' nor can I walk behind the straight side of it owing to space in my studio and the fact that it's not on a rollaway stand. Can you make an update for cleaning with these types of impediments?

I heard you say not to use a wax on a high gloss finish, because of build up. Then you recommended Meguiar’s. Did I misunderstand you?
Did I understand correctly that the Meguiar’s product can be used on the exterior/case of a satin piano? Thank you for doing this video. It is very informative and helpful.
Yes, Hyrum just said you wouldn’t want to use the Meguiar’s wax on a satin piano. If you want to play it safe on a satin finish piano, you can use the Cory Satin Sheen piano polish. That’s what I have for my satin piano

A thorough cleaning of the belly and frame takes about an hour. Don't worry about a ½ass job. Do it quick then
So the bigger the piano, the longer your vacuum hose and the less negative pressure at the end so the less debris is removed. Oh. Is that why bigger pianos are dirtier captain piano?
