  • Saltwater invertebrates are a great way to add diversity to your aquarium with some cool and unique characters. But, which are the best invertebrates for beginners to saltwater aquariums? This video was created to help you find those answers!
Many of the invertebrates in this video have really helpful janitorial tasks that they naturally undertake to help maintain a cleaner aquarium.
Trying to find out which invertebrates you can not only keep but how easy they are to keep is one of the many questions a lot of beginners have. Starting off with the easiest invertebrates will ensure your new aquarium will have more 'Ups' than 'Downs'.
I made this video purposely to help you find the best inverts for your aquarium!

Thanks for this. How long should we wait before adding invertebrates to an aquarium? Also, should we until after adding fish or can we do it before adding fish?

      Great Question Krishna!
Once your aquarium has fully cycled then you are good to begin adding invertebrates. Only add them slowly as they are all predominantly scavengers and if there is no food source for them they will starve.
Nassarius snails are a great first addition as they will plow through your sandbed looking for food as well as be out in the aquarium. They can also right themselves if tipped over.
Shrimp are also good as they can find uneaten food and detritus hiding in the live rock and will feed off the foods you add to the tank.

Thank you very much, but I was wondering if I could own an invertebrates only tank? I plan on getting some soon and I was wondering before I bought some.

Yes, absolutely! You can own kind of tank you wish. An inverts only tank would be a really great addition to any home or office. I would generally keep it to a smaller tank so that you see the inverts. A large tank may mean you never see them!

I have a macro-algae tank, are the red hermit crabs fine ? Or will they eat my macros

Hermits should be fine. They generally don't eat enough to do any damage.

My emerald crabs are little psycho bastards, they bother nassarius snails, pick fight with the pistol shrimp and nibble on my zoas, maybe I just have bad luck with them.

Yeah they can be a little nightmare sometimes. Flip them over and see if they are males as they tend to be more aggressive!
