Really enjoyable video. As someone who is on your Jazz Skills program, going through the Developing Fluency beginners part, this video is not something I'm learning just yet but it's nice to have an idea of what I'll be doing in the future. Can't wait to get there! :)
Great video- been watching for a while, would love to hear a video on how you take all these exercises and ideas you have and create a "finished" musical song with them-I always feel like my ideas feel...incomplete? in a bigger context.
So awesome, truly artful sir! I really love the simplicity of these lines, in a world where complexity is the bane du jour. It was in the last or close to last one with the added note I clearly heard the pattern. Repeated patterns increasingly subtle, or not. I prefer simple lines that leave me a lot of space for me to enjoy the relationship, which is mathematical but gets into some kind of quasi symbolic magic, given the mysterious nature of our slowly unfolding minds, and the mysterious larger force out there but also in here that is music. To say, I’ve recognized this pattern and I’m going to play around with it and see what it reveals to me about its mysterious, magical nature is essential art. Whether it’s dominant chords, clay jugs, poetry, or the weaver’s woollen warp and weft.

I haven't been this excited to start doing my homework in a decade.

Always good to hear from a believer! :) Keep at it and you'll get to theses steps too.

I have always been insanely intimidated by Rhythm Change,… all those dominants….so I look forward to a Shan Rescue lesson on it !!😂
Have you seen my Rhythm changes webinar for Jazz Skills members?
@@JazzSkills will look for it!!!
This is so cool, how would you do this scale exercises with 8 note scales like BH’s diminished 6th scale?
or another way of putting it is....if you run up the scale, you use the same rule descending for the note you started on.
I want two plaques on my wall.
"Be aware where the bar lines are."
"Scales and harmony are the raw materials; rhythm is delivery."
Thoughts?
I like it 🙂
