In India it cost, 65 dollars and 50+ for crown.

First dentist I've seen who explains the actual cost, and not just the "after insurance" cost which means nothing to the non-insured.
    Thank you very much.

How do you distinguish between a small and large infection?

My dentist wants root canal for tooth 29 (lower 2nd premolar). Symptoms are pretty mild. How successful are RC on this tooth? Is an extraction a good choice. I would have to wait year or more before a bridge or partial.

AHHHH! I'm afraid to go back to my dentist now!!! They advised/practically stressed a redo of 10+yr old root canal...that implants can & do fail... I was leery of a redo because, though they said it wasn't really that bad, both dentist & endo told me I had infection & a small hole in my jaw. But then once I went to oral surgeon to have it extracted, they said it wasn't really a hole. Now I have this awful gap to fill!

Hi Aimee. I'm not sure. Medicaid makes you choose one of their plans. I am not too familiar with them. Does anyone else here have any ideas?

Hi there. Which tooth did you perform the root canal on? I'm guessing the upper back teeth, which are close to the sinus. Eitherway, dizziness following dental procedure is not a good sign. There is a chance the infection is still ongoing despite your root canal treatment. I recommend taking an antibiotic course and then taking a CT scan of the culprit tooth. Only a 3D Xray will show if there is still infection on the tooth or not. Based on the CT, you can decide if it's worth keeping the root canal treated tooth, or if it's best to remove the tooth and go a different route.

Is a long standing crowned molar tooth that needs a root canal and has 7 mm pocket worth saving ?
    Seems like it isn’t?

Hi Aloha. I agree with you! A tooth with a 7 millimeter periodontal pocket has a pretty low long-term prognosis. Doing a root canal (plus you'll need a crown I'm sure) on a tooth with poor prognosis is usually not worth it. Now I'm not saying that this is always the case. Occasionally your dentist will perform a deep cleaning/gum surgery to reduce the pocket depth, and once your tooth has grown bone, he or she will perform the root canal and save your tooth. Still, you could lose this tooth within a few years and there is no guarantee. Removing the tooth and replacing it with a dental implant is the better long-term solution in my opinion. The costs are relatively comparable (gum surgery+ root canal+ crown vs. extraction +bone graft +dental implant), but trying to save a tooth with so many problems (bone loss as well as an infection!) is just too risky. If it was my mouth, I wouldn't think twice about removing the tooth and replacing it with a dental implant.
