That horse may have died in his last race ever but I remember the string of triple crown winners like it was yesterday and Izvestia was nothing short of legend. Too bad he didn't get a chance to breed. I remember the Rothmans where he broke his leg and my brother and I cried like babies as were about 12 at the time. R.I.P Izvestia, you were and always will be my favourite!
Izvestia will always have a special place in my heart also. I like to watch they video that was made about him. He was such a gentle horse, unlike his sire. The way he always crushed the opposition, was just a sight to see. Atfield said it was "the worst day of my life" when he had to be euthenized. My fave, too.
@ebbets1965 Don Seymour isnt dead. He is my dad. He is still alive and well. He had a massive stroke more than just over 10 years ago. But he is still well. lol.
Don Seymour was not afraid to take the outside gate with Izvestia. With 12 horses inside of him, Seymour had to point him towards the rail, as he would be running a wider and longer circle than the other horses. So he lost ground. But he knew Izvestia was the fastest horse on the track, and as all good jockeys do, he knew the house he was on. So Izvestia had to run longer and farther than the other horses, BUT HE STILL WON BY A HUGE MARGIN!!! Izvestian is my favorite, too!!! RIP, boy. Once you see him run, he is simply unforgettable.
i'm from England.yeah nothing special there like but about that time my dad lived in canada, working in stables and used to phone home ravin bout some horse named Izvestia that he wer riding out in prep for that race!i never knew why (no internet to find out what wa goin on over there or interest to be honest!)but me dad still holds that horse in the same regard as legends like red rum!now I can see why!wow what a legend izvestia should have been!pity the vet seen different! RI.P!
Sorry, I meant Seymour RETIRED too young. he is still very much with us. Don Macbeth who also rode for Kinghaven was the late jockey I was thinking of. Hope I didn't scare anyone!
Both horse and rider (Don Seymour) died too young. Reminder of when the Queen's Plate was actually run quickly. The quality has gone down som much. Nowadays the race practically takes two days to run. Possibly the worst graded stakes winner ever, TJ's Lucky Moon, a few years ago took about 2:07 to run a mile and a quarter.
Why can't the ammouncer say Izbestia was the best? He makes running wide by 5 sound good, when Izbestia had to cover more ground than others. He praises other horses that did not even come close, but not the winner. This announcer it an embarrasment, a real loser.
I'll never forget this race. Izvestia in person was the most beautiful horse I'd ever seen.
WOW! What a move coming around the turn. Definitly my favorite horse of all time.

Thanks for the comment... I made sure to keep it on mute since I'd rather eat shit than listen to Terry Liebel talk, thank you.
