This is the third jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown won by Izvestia, Canadian Triple Crown winner of 1990. Izvestia is by Kinghaven Farms and was trained by Roger Attfield.
Izvestua looks smaller than the other two grays. His sire, Icecapade, was only 15.3 hands, like Northern Dancer, so that is where he got it from. Icecapade had quite a temper, but Izvestia looks like "Let's get on with th e show" attitude. RIP sweet Izvestia, you will never be forgotten.
"Last year's Breeder's Stakes was unforgetable, with With Approval romping home with a 7-1/2 length lead....: Well this year, 1989, Izvestia also looked to win by 7+ lengths. His time was about 5 seconds slower on a very wet turf.
Izvestia is an icon. The only horse I liked to watch - I would get so excited as a child, inches from the television as Izvestia won each race by lengths....it broke my heart to see him go.
I feel the same as you do. I think he was a much better horse than With Approval. He won each race easily, while With Approval won the first two by tiny margins. I watch Izvestia just about every dayy because he is a joy to see, his acceleration running past other horses.

@@JamieDunham88 It is so awful when this happens to ANY horse, but Inveztia was something very special. to a lot of people. He had Swaps in him, who also broke a back leg, but it healed and he went on the breed and race.

I was 14 and cried for days when he broke down and was euthanized.
