I had a Shiba who lived for 18yrs. He went with me everywhere, even by land in my truck to Panama and back twice! That is a 5,000 mile trip each way! He went to Baja, Mexico with me four times. He had been to 28 of 50 states here in the USA. He loved to take trips and may have been the most traveled Shiba in the world. He even stayed on an island with me in Panama for two weeks. We kayaked to the island. He saw monkeys there and even crocodiles. He loved to hunt crabs on the beach and was a mouse hunter too. He was the best dog I ever had and I miss him a lot. I think it is time for me to get another Shiba. You can see him in my profile picture, he is behind my shoulder. We were kayaking in Wyoming in this picture.

That’s such a beautiful comment now. I hope you found yourself another shiba buddy now.
I’m soon bringing my wife and shiba from Japan to the uk and can’t wait to take my shiba (and wife of course 😂) on hikes and camping adventures around the Lake District here. Me and my wife previously have had a road trip around Europe and I really want to take our shiba, Manatsu with us if we do it again which I hope we will! Ours is a mini one, so she’s only 7kg, but she will follow us most places haha.

Next phase see if the Shiba will do some hunting and bring back some fresh game for dinner !! Lovely footage and your dog looks like it is in its element in the countryside - you are giving a very good life to you both: Dog and human.

I actually take him when I hang out with a hunter friend.(not as hunting dog but keeping me companies)
It would be tough to make him hunting dog as he is slow and I adore him too much and cannot make him go through the hard training lol but he eats deer meat everyday that we catch! You can see some images on Instagram @k9bushcraft

I want to do this with my shiba, but im afraid if a deer were to show up, he would chase after it. How did you train yours not to run off?

    • @k9bushcraft
      @k9bushcraft  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the comment!
First off, walk your dog at least twice a day no matter what. That’s the minimum to earn a trust from your dog. 1 hour each. Minimum.
Make the walk fun. Many Shiba owners think the walk = toilet time as most of them cannot do it at home. But it’s boring for your dog.
Also keep changing the places to walk. I personally don’t go to the same place twice in a row.
You need to find a place where nobody comes. I used to drive an hour to get there for each walk.
Wild animals disappear after a while you hang out with your dog.
Start using a long leash and make him not to pull. Make it super fun and get him excited.
Eventually he will understand the area he can go to even though the leash is long. Without pulling.
At the same time, try to change the leash without unleashing him. Put a leash while one is on. Like while leash A is on, put B leash. He is wearing the leash A and B for a second, and then takes off leash A. Then repeat.
You will be able to tell that your shiba hears the sound of unleashed or changing the leash. He will start running when he hears one first I bet.
Eventually he will start acting the same on any leash, no pull.
This is just the start. Don’t unleash till you feel safe, no gamble on this.
It took me a couple of years to take the leash off. He came to me when he was 2 and half years old. Was not the best behaved dog.
Also don’t forget to bring great treats he loves. And make sure he knows where it is.
When I messed up and he ran off a bit, I tapped my pocket where the treats are and he came back.
I even don’t unleash my boy if I forget to the treat.
Patience and persistence for everyday effort is the key. You can’t take a day off if you really want to do it.
I quit my job at that time hahaha
Needless to say, no violence even a little bit.
Some people or shitty trainers use it but it’s so wrong. You can raise your voice though.
But nothing should hurt him. It destroys the bond immediately as the dogs can smell your anger.
All of the above is my personal opinion for the experience.
      Best of luck!

Having a Shiba Inu off leash…. I couldn’t have done that with mine and expected to still have them at the end of the day….. except maybe the female after she turned 12….

It took me a year to leash off my dog.
Yes, shiba is difficult, but not impossible.
I started with using a super long leash like 50meters and kept telling him the command to come back with his favorite treat.
Well he still walks wherever he wants but never go far away from me

I never let mine off leash because I couldn’t get them to reliably come from ten feet…. And with all the times the kids and maid let them out that I saw them run into traffic, I never would risk it because they had NO fear of cars or even semi trucks…. It is only by sheer luck they lived as long as they did… the boy died at the age of nine when he got stomach torsion. My baby girl died at the ripe old age of seventeen…. I miss them both. They were both cremated and I have the boxes with their ashes. I have told all my relatives that when I go, the dogs go in the coffin with me… if I have any living dogs at the time they are to be cremated upon their deaths and placed in the ground close to my coffin….. ((unless I get my pyramid shaped mausoleum built on my Alaskan land, in which case there will also be a sarcophagus and they will go in it with me))…. It’s my money, I’ll do whatever crazy shit I want to with it…

@@Rick_Sanchez_C137_ I’m sorry for your loss..
I understand that it’s extremely dangerous when they go off the leash.
That’s pretty much why 1 year after I adopted my baby boy, I decided to move to countryside from middle of Tokyo.
Now I live in the mountain area and there are lots of places where no cars and even human being around like the area in this video.
I changed my job so I can stay home with him.
I also do not allow anyone even my family to walk my boy without me as they are not as careful as I am.
I want to get rid of every single possible dangerous matter.
Some people call me crazy but he is my everything :)
I will Rest In Peace with my dog too!
