If you've never been around these cars in person, they are so unbelievably loud its impossible to explain. You feel it like a slap on the chest, they are so absurdly powerful.
Talking about wild when i was a kid way before they had safety stuff for blowers was watching a nhra race live...darlington if im not mistaking..we were in stands on pit side funny car was in front of us when the whole body lifted and the blower ripped a gigantic part of car off. ..we looked up and the light pole in front of us was shaking parts were flying everywhere the blower took the lights of the pole and it landed in parking lot on somebodys car...I was like wow! What was funny about it all there was a young boy selling peanuts and concessions right beside us when it happened we looked around and he was gone bois left peanuts and all dropped thru metal bleachers way up i mean to tell ya he hit the ground and didnt look back. We laughed so hard..just glad nobody was killed or maimed. Needless to say it was awesome! John force wife saved the day though i had a headache from nitro at one point so bad i was about to cry she gave my dad the asprin and saved the day for me...Thank You John Force's wife!
Late 60 early 70s at old Houston International they used to have some great match racing people such rapid Ronnie Runyan Big Mike Burkhart Gene Snow and Billy Myers and many more what a great time to be a fan pit pass one dollar yeah I know
As I watch these videos, I have to ask myself a question. Perhaps the experts can weigh in. Are the drivers allowed practice runs to make sure the braking chutes fire, and the engines, and axles don't fail-- before they actually have to race? I just think it's weird that these people spend all this time and money building these cars, and they aren't allowed to make test runs to ensure everything works properly.
Track time for testing costs money. These cars are very expensive to make a pass with. Running anything at its limits means you will absolutely have a failure if you do it enough. Matter of time.
this is cool and all but it seems insanely reckless.. driving these hugely overpowered cars on terrible tracks. most of the time it looks like they don't even bother mixing nitro because there is no way to put the power down. and why do their chutes fail to open so often

"Backup girls" should be mandatory on every drag racing team!😍😍😘😘😁😁
That's why you got them.
They should have more back up girls at every drag racing team
Better back that ass up Girl 🤙
Yeah, instead of fat grumpy old men with anger issues who get mad when you don’t react to their command in 0.24 seconds

I was there for the State Capitol Dragway event. I will go back to another Funny Car Chaos event again.
Some great saves, and some scary crashes. That lost clip of Nitro Bandi is scary to watch.
Nice BUGS at the beginning.

Great video 👍
Those Funny Cars showed a great variety... of questionable financing for equipment, safety and length of Drag Track.
Seen tham at mokan dragway
