My friend mentioned this to me and I found it super insightful, so I thought I would share it here:
"the wing variations also got me thinking that combinations may be involved for wing types in INTJ:
    - 5w6… seems like Te + Se… with the focus on material accumulation
    - 5w4… seems like Te + Fi with the focus on mastering personal interests."

    • @MichaWeidenfeld
      @MichaWeidenfeld 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I'm INTJ 5w4 but I'm right in between those two. I focus on material accumulation to be able to focus on my personal interests and be as independent as possible. Although through spending so much time with career, marketing and the stuff I do for a living, my interests shift more and more towards those topics. I'm trying to aim towards a vague state of success though where I am independent from other people.
This talk was really fascinating to see for me, being able to feel so in between those two. I think they are great examples of the INTJs on different sides of the spectrum. I also think that both are probably very very low in neuroticism. Would be interesting to see the differences and commonalities between INTJs with high and low neuroticism.
If I would've had such a high self-esteem so early in life, I would've probably turned out like Chris, since I wouldn't have been so anxious about not fitting in.

crazy how i never realized this pattern. I always thought I was mastering my personal interests, but they never seemed to be useful. Therefore, I always gave up on them when they seemed unnecessary. Gymnastics say, My mom always told me that you'll live longer and be healthier with a better body if you do gymnastic, and its true. I was passionate for around 2 years and then I gave up. I realized that this was a waste of time, and I could still have the same results if I did something else less time-consuming

I think 6 is leaning towards Te, while 4 is Ti, because 4 is emotional so people tend to underestimate how analytical can a 4 be. I think 6 wing is towards evaluating while 4 is towards contemplating

I wouldn't say 5 is happy being alone per say, they are just more comfortable than it vs most other types, and might be dangerously comfortable with it, mostly because they are easily overwhelmed by things like noise and people.
But while they can go longer by themselves than most and need people less...the need is still there. They still want people they can talk to and share their ideas with in the long run. Part of the issue is shyness, and their desire to accumulate knowledge and expertise is often to give themselves the confidence to engage with the world and with other people, especially if Social or Sexual

    • @stu6097
      @stu6097 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I would add the 5 SP desire to accumulate knowledge is also there to give them confidence but at least for me I have anxiety about testing if what I have learned is enough. Its never enough. I am thinking its maybe harder for SPs to get out of the house(their "castle") where SX and SO 5s might be a tad more adventurous interacting with others.

    • @jonathancampbell5231
      @jonathancampbell5231 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@stu6097 Some Social and Sexual 5s can be quite shy ambivalent about talking to others, while some Sp 5s are tougher and more business-minded (though this Sp 5 is sometimes lost in the literature).
It depends on things like Tritype, upbringing etc
Walter White from Breaking Bad and Dwight Schrute from The Office are both (unhealthy) Sp 5s, and they aren't necessarily unadventurous about interacting with others so much as uninterested.
But yes, all 5s want knowledge for confidence, and all 5s are painfully aware of the limits of their knowledge.

A trait I've noticed that somewhat separates 5w6 from 5w4, is their level of patience. w6's tend to be more fixated on efficiency, or finding the "answer" to the problem so they can move on. w4's on the other hand seem to have less concern with efficiency, and are sort of "along for the ride" when exploring a thought process, to find an answer that feels right.

4, 5 and 9 are Withdrawn types but they Withdraw in different ways- into their own Centre and away from the other two.
So, 4 and 5 both Withdraw "from" the Gut, which means if they feel stressed they will generally leave and go be alone somewhere, while the 9 will Withdraw "into" the Gut and remain and endure.
5 and 9 will Withdraw "from" the Heart, so they will cut themselves off from their emotions, while the 4 Withdraws "into" the Heart and dives into them (5w4 will be into emotional matters but from a detached, scholarly perspective).
And 4 and 9 Withdraw "from" the Head and away from thinking about things logically so much, while the 5 goes "into" the Head and attempts to be logical at all times

  • @enfieldjohn101
    @enfieldjohn101 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I'm glad that I've found and am learning about this Enneagram concept. It helps me to understand personality type better. I've always tested out as INTJ ever since I first took the tests in college. As I've matured a bit, I've found that I didn't fit the basic description of types as exactly as I used to think I should.
Then, I found out about this different personality model and how it seems to be a bit more flexible and to account for variability in human personality. The wings allow for the way that my own personality is a bit more interested in art, music and learning about or working on things just for the sake of doing it, rather than feeling compelled to make sure that everything I do serves some long-term or greater purpose or goal. I'm not driven by plans and goals as much as INTJs are said to be.
I'm also maybe a bit more sensitive about emotions (both my own and others) than INTJs descriptions are written up as. I'm so adverse to conflict and argument, that I have a hard time discussing or debating with other people, especially if the interaction takes an emotional turns and begins to feel more like a fight than a discussion. Could be partly from trying to cope with my mom and older sister fighting so much when I was a kid. Also because I had other kids in the tiny town I grew up in who seemed to enjoy trying to pick fights with me.
On the Enneagram tests, I usually test as 5w4 with 9 coming up sometimes depending on what I'm going through at the time when Im taking the test. I'm really relating to what Chris is saying. Other than the not reading part. Ever since I became able to read (after I started doing eye excerises for my lazy eye), I've become a voracious reader - both of online and of paper books. I even have a DS cartridge that has 100 classic books on it. When I was a kid and started reading (at about age 9), the county and school libraries were my favorite places to be as a kid. College was wonderful to me in that I could lose myself in reading in so many libraries (some of which were very quiet and relatively free of people). What a great experience.
I enjoy being alone. In fact right now, I'm house sitting and dog sitting for a cousin at this moment. It's just me and five little dogs for a week. It's fantastic. My cousin wondered in a text yesterday if I was bored. I told her that I've never been bored in my life. I've always been able to entertain myself and to live inside my own head.
Social media is custom made for introverts like us. I spend more time talking/typing mostly to people on my social media sites (I use five of them) than I do talking to people in person. In person has always made me feel anxious and nervous. Even video chat gets to me a bit. I've actually turned down invitations to video interviews and have insisted on sending typed responses to their questions instead.
Great video, Joyce! I love watching these. This one is great for talking about the diversity within our type.

I'm watching this video again as I've had people asking me what Enneagram is and I'm looking for videos to help me explain it. This is a great one, especially for explaining it to people who are familiar with MBTI.
Type 5's hoard information indeed! We are data dragons. :)
Joe and Chris' reactions to your fantastic introductions (you are really good at introducing people) even say a lot about INTJs and Type 5s.
I think that one reason why I have a hard time putting myself 100% in the usual, stereotypical description of INTJ is because of my strong 4 Wing and Type 4 is as interested in developing and following a master plan and doesn't need information gathering to be practical. Sometimes, 4 Wings love to learn things just because they are interesting or fun to learn even if they never wind up using it for anything. Most of the time, I'd rather read a fictional sci fi or fantasy novel like 'Murder in Tarsis' or 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' rather than read a non-fiction book about how to be an investigator. I can read non-fiction books and often do, but I usually need to have a very important reason for doing so.
For example, I'll read a book like 'Dirr's Hardy Trees and Shrubs' when I need in-depth analysis and detail about specific tree or shrub species and how to care for them for my gardening side-business, but when I'm relaxing and feeling like I want to be inspired about gardening, I'll watch a gardening show like 'Gardener's World' on InsideOutside channel on Amazon Prime or something.
The Loner Who Doesn't Feel Lonely is certainly me. I'd rather be alone 98% of the time. I never feel bored or lonely. I always have something that I am thinking of that entertains, enlightens or just helps me pass the time. I'm always working on something, whether it is a drawing or painting or model or whether it is something that needs cared for or fixed or solved.
I used to have a t-shirt that fell apart years ago, but I've sometimes thought about getting or making a new one that says "Loading... please wait" and has a computer progress bar below it. :) It's fun to think of that when someone reacts to noticing that I'm thinking deeply about something or daydreaming and they notice that I'm starting off into space or staring at my lap or something. I pause a lot when I am talking, so I rarely get to finish what I'm saying if I am talking to people who are not INT's or 5's. Other types sense that break in my speaking and assume that I'm done sharing and take over the conversation. One of many things that drive me nuts about trying to talk to people in real time in person. I'd much rather engage with people via texting, commenting on social media, online forums, etc.
I know what Chris means. I have to really concentrate in order to cause myself to act like people expect me to act. I find myself having to tell myself something like "Okay, this person expects me to be enthusiastic about what they are saying. Let's see, what do enthusiastic people look like? Oh yeah, I need to make eye contact, nod my head, smile.... no not like that, now he's looking at me like something is wrong with me. I must be overdoing it......"
I also relate to what Joe says about that feeling of dread when I find out that someone is coming over to our house to stay for a while, or even just to visit for a few hours. The less time I've given to prepare for this, the worse I feel about it. I like it when my house is occupied by just me. I love my wife a whole lot, but I just feel more comfortable when no one is around, and I can just forget about everything and everyone for a while.
Networking is incredibly hard for me like Chris says. I sometimes realize that I need to keep in touch with people and develop connections with people but it's so hard. It's tough to come up with references, like he says, who I still have the addresses, phone numbers, etc. to get in touch with them to ask them for a reference. It doesn't come naturally to us. My list of friends, cohorts, etc. in the business world is really short. I don't know if anyone else relates to this, but I may have a Linkdin account but I usually ignore emails from it.
Yes, I'm a really introverted 5W4. Trying to be outgoing takes effort that I can't maintain. The Enneagram thing about moving from one type to another temporarily depending on how mentally healthy or unhealthy you are is interesting. I've noticed that I sometimes slide into type 7 or 8, but usually only in more or less negative or unhealthy ways. Also, when I'm leaning into my 4 Wing, I sometimes slide into types 1 and 2 in unhealthy ways.
I get what you are saying about wing 6. It doesn't come naturally to me, but I can move my way over there when I need to though when I do, I wind up being a phobic six who uses that six energy to use logic to avoid what I'm afraid of.
I'm really hard on myself and am my own worst critic. The only people in my life who I can think of as best friends or soulmates have been people who counter that with being really warm and caring and reassuring.
Yes, I manage my energy all the time, even when I'm engaged in something I'm interested in. For example, if I'm playing video games and I'm really into it, I still find myself feeling like "Okay, I've been grinding in this CRPG for almost two hours now, time for a break." or I'll find my mind wandering while I'm playing a game, I know it's time to take a break from it.
The list of people I share my emotions with is very short. My wife, my grandma, my mom, my dad (increasingly so now that he's retired and is starting to take an interest in me) and a few friends who I keep in touch with on online forums and social media platforms. I'd say no more than ten people total. I can type out comments like this about my thoughts and feelings for anyone to read and it's no problem. But that's because I'm not trying to express it out loud to a person face to face. I find that incredibly difficult and exhausting. I think that is because when I'm with people, I find myself trying to pretend to be 'normal' which is really hard when I'm actually autistic and have to suppress my autistic traits when I'm with people. People who are reading my text can't see me acting weird while I'm typing it.
I'm with Joe on the phobia and anger over sudden loud noises and distractions. I can't stand it. Sometimes if I am deep in though, which is often, and the phone rings, it will make me angry and I have to take a few deep breaths before I can answer the call without sounding like I'm angry at the person who called me. I'm not always angry at them, I'm just angry that my train of thought has been derailed.
If I'm somewhere and a little kid starts screaming, all I can think about is getting away from that noise until the kid stops screaming. I also am sensitive to really bright lights and strobes. I'm sorry for Chris that he gets headaches from it. That would be awful. But it does really bother me and wears me out. I keep all my screens brightness and speakers volumes lower than some other people like. I have the blue light filters turned on with Windows 10 and my TV too.
One of the few things that I really relate strongly to with the six wing is the whole, almost supernatural ability to sense that trouble is coming or to spot what's wrong with something when other people around can't see it until I point it out and describe it. My family calls it my 'Spidey Sense'. But like I said earlier, it is usually a sort of negative thing. I don't live in the type six realm most of the time, only when I need it in a mostly negative way.
You are so right about Big Media setting the tone or the approved thought or belief on something. Then, guys like us say 'Yeah whatever. I can shoot a hundred holes in this popular idea. The media can't tell me what to think or how to feel.'

I’m a 5,,6w and Yes, it’s possible 😀 I spend a lot of time in an FI and I loop, so I live in my head. I have to consciously get out of that and go in to Se, It’s such a relief when I do. When I’m deliberately mindful I become aware of how much of life I’m missing by living in my head.On the Myers Briggs scale I’m between F and T.
My lifelong interests have been psychology and art/making things. Other interests get added from time to time, but I am ALWAYS seeking information. I read nonfiction constantly. I am always problem-solving. I am a retired therapist, but my interest in psychology and people have not lessened at all. I see life from a scientific point of view, and yet I have strong ethical boundaries.
I know that being balanced between F and T confuses people, especially at work. One day I’m adamant about an ethical issue, the next day, or five minutes later, I’m thinking of it in an entirely logical manner. I switch back-and-forth easily. I find it when working with people T can get me into trouble pretty easily 😅😅😅

As an INTJ I understand why people say I'm expressionless but I also disagree with their assessment of me; the implied demeanor I'm showing.
Everyone is expressionless if he isn't interacting with anyone. Expressions need two people to happen. It simple, to me, if you want to see an INTJ have expressions go talk to him.
(From my observations an extraverted type is an exaggeration of this effect.)

Its obvious the tag on his shirt was starting to get to him at 3:03.Drinking water to do something with your hands.Twitching lip and passing the hands in the hair repetitevly.

1:00:19 It reminds me when I argued with people in reddit who believed that the INFJ/INTP relationship is the golden pair. The amount of hatred I got when I said it’s not was ridiculous. Being downvoted af when you challenge other people’s beliefs, sometimes without stating another opinion makes you being dispised. Comment from an INTP.

@@timefortee May I know why not? I really do like INFJ-INTP pairing, they're both intuitive and have a rich inner world, they both are philosophical, relationships can be challenging but I think they can make it work. They can learn a lot from each other.

@@nishatronak2081 Of course they can, if you're talking anything but living together as a couple, imo.
However, depending on subtype it may be easier for some. For example, as NiFe I find INTPs too limited in emotional depth and breadth and not Ne bubbly enough. However, my NiTi sister would probably be just fine with the same INTP because she prefers levelheadedness and logic.

Feelings generally follow "grooved" thoughts, ie. thoughts that have developed strong, neural connections. If an INTJ is contemplative in a conversation then the only emotions that should arise are those that have arisen because of his own cognition or train of thoughts, logically speaking.

idk if Chris decided his tritype yet, but it's definitely 531 or 513, not 594/549. From a psychological standpoint- "Mastery" is what he chose as his greatest value- yeah, of course, triple competency.
And the way he talks- is like fluently robotic, the triple competency 5s tend to talk this way (Kane Pixels and Yuval Noah Harari are two examples).
to compare against something like 594 (my tritype), the triple withdrawns have more of a slower and almost sort of lamenting tone, even double withdrawn 59X types are somewhat like that.
Kurt Cobain- 594, sounds like a sad robot lol.

It's amazing the number of times astrology is discounted as crazy-making and people roll their eyes at the very mention of it. One of the arguments people have is that you can guess what kind of a person someone is through MBTI in a way you can't with astrology. Well actually astrology is not a quick personality tool, that's not what it's there for. It just goes more in-depth and talks about what is likely to happen per your PROCLIVITIES and KARMA. It's not the usual astrology column in a magazine or whatever. Granted, it would take a skilled practitioner to read your chart properly. In that sense, it's application is ironically more straightforward and doesn't bring pre-conceived notions and ideas into things. MBTI meanwhile is also not scientifically validated because the very basis of what makes personality can not be defined, and how much of one's personality is due to trauma vs nature or the complex interplay of both (and if so what happens when you evolve) cannot be quantified. So people really do not fit into stereotypes or neat little boxes but smh that's not considered crazy by the MBTI community. They will defend their loose theories till the cows come home 😃

I hope this is appropriate but I am trying to engage below as you make points. Normally I do not bother.
I am an INTJ-A 5W6. Although I have a PhD in Christian Philosophy and Apologetics. I enjoy the efficiency of critical thinking but some philosophical studies seem to me just splitting hairs for no reason, a distinction without a difference.
I have a ME and business degree as well so it fits the 5w6 very well
I do not read books cover to cover. I get books to find specific information.
My wife reminds me to smile when we are around people
The pause drives my wife insane. Funny thing is I do not always know I am doing it
I enjoy my alone time. Like I said I ama ME in HVAC. I was in the field now more sales. Both afford me the opportunity to interact with people with a clearly defined end point. Meetings are great. I can recharge between them.
I started to type that I do not feel like I am not ready. I think I over prepare to be able to answer all of my questions that I can think of. I enjoyed learning but very few subjects are something that I want to learn deeply. Learning enough to understand it what’s going on in a certain subject is generally enough for me. This subject doesn’t interest me enough to write a book or spend hours studying it. It’s a mild fascination.
I’m a former infantry Marine, but I don’t feel intimidated I never have even before the Marine Corps. So I do not relate to that.
I never feel inferior or guilty. I do not relate to that either.
