An inexpensive electric knife cuts through foam like a charm.

Yes, I've used one for cutting foam, the type of electric knife you might use to carve your turkey or other meat, bread too.

When using foam for seat cushions, cut the foam a tad larger than the wooden seat. It will compress and make a nice rounded edge. Stretch a layer of quilt batting over the foam along with the fabric. This will round out the edges and disguise minor flaws in the foam. It also keeps the fabric from wrinkling and pulling away from the foam after people sit in the chairs for awhile.

You’re such a sweet, humble and gracious person Mary. Always thinking of others and worried about your Booth not being full and using up space at a Mall. From what I saw in the video, your Booth looks nice ! Some times those “packed booths” don’t draw people in. They are overwhelmed by stuff! I think yours is great…. Not intimidating 🌻

I see others have already mentioned electric knives for cutting foam, so I'll just comment on how I love that you reuse and remake things into something new. I grew up during the postwar period in England and that was a way of life then, and I still do that myself. My kids think I save too much but I can always see life in things. I'm not a hoarder, I do donate and declutter, in case anyone gets the wrong idea! 😊 I hadn't heard of the parchment paper method, how useful, thank you for sharing that, I must try it. 😉

your problem with stenciling is that when you stencil, pouncing or swirling, your tool must be on the dry side. If not, you get a bleeding effect. When I stencil I put 2 light coats, the first application is like a primer boundary. When it dries, it is a stabilizer to the first coat. It might take longer to stencil, but you get crisp lines. Also, to get the dry effect of the sponge or brush. you have to offload onto a paper towel. Offload is pouncing your tool on a surface to knock off the building of paint. I hope this helps on your next stenciling project. Good Luck, Les Meyer

Hi, Mary! I wanted to share a quick tip on covering seats with foam cushioning: Take your fabric and staple it to the bottom of one side of the seat. Then take the fabric on the opposite side of the seat and pull taunt. Then staple that side down. Sometimes it helps to have someone do the stapling while you keep the fabric tight. Do the same with the other two sides. I find that by doing that, it will smooth the obvious edges of the foam. It really softens the edges and gives a more rounded edge. Just make sure you really pull the fabric tightly!!! Hope this helps in future projects. Thanks for sharing your gift of creativity!!!

Instead of using just your index finger, it allows you to use your grip and works great. I bought it when I was going to redo 4 wooden chairs and it took A LOT of spraying!! Now I use it even if I’m only doing a small project. It was only a few dollars at the hardware store.

I just used two cotton tablecloths from Target to make drapes for my spare bedroom. The fabric would have been 3 times as expensive at the fabric store and since the tablecloths were already hemmed on 4 sides all I had to do was trim some off the bottoms and sew in a new hem. Took less than a half hour. Fabric shower curtains are also a great way to find hemmed fabrics. Problem solving at its best.

Mary, everything came out gorgeous. I love the folding chairs. I am always needing extra chairs. I am going to be on the look out for a couple and paint them. I am sure the owners of the mall love you having a shop there. All your pieces are fabulous.💕💕💕💕

Every week you amaze me - with your projects - Stone Soup (something from nothing).
I see Maria beat me to the electric knife comment. I purchased an electric knife at a thrift store for $3 - works perfectly for cutting foam. Also, Dacron (like quilt center, only stiffer) is super cheap ($2.50/yard) and will hide any miscuts of foam. You simply glue over the foam. I purchase Dacron at an upholstery shop. Reusing foam is important as the price has shot up in the last six months.
Thanks again for the ideas. Your creative mind brings me a smile each week. :)

A kitchen electric knife works great for cutting the foam. You can pick one up cheap from a second hand store. Love all the projects. ❤️

We use an electric carving knife to cut that type of form. It cuts like butter!

I found using a serrated bread knife cuts foam so much easier that scissors or a flat edge knife. Love the makeovers, so pretty!!
