I made it all the way to putting the hub back on and broke the aluminum inner spokes. Had to order a new kit. You should mention in your video that you don't want to apply too much torque tightening that thing, lol.

Heh. I have a Scion xB (1st gen) with 225k miles on it. I bought the car new and love it. I replaced my noisy alternator a couple of months ago (due to noise) only to discover it didn't help the noise. Yesterday the noise got really bad, and I noticed the AC wasn't blowing cold air any more. There was a terrible rattling noise, almost as though my engine bearings were about to seize up or something. Well, it was the AC compressor that was making all the racket. Thinkint it was the AC clutch I did some TH-cam searching only to find out it was clutchless. This brought me to this video. I know it's the compressor pulley mechanism because the outer plat didn't spin while the engine was running I can see from the wheel well because the plastic plate is gone (after hitting a deer 75k miles ago). But I can turn the outer plate fairly easily by hand. I assume the compressor is still functional but it may not be. And when I looked at it from above with the motor running you can easily see the inner plate rattling around between the pulley and outer plate.
This video showed me how to either take out the inner plate so that it is quiet (but no AC) or how to replace the whole setup, assuming the compressor is not shot. Looks like I just need to replace the inner plate, if it's even available, if I think the AC might still work...
I guess we'll see. I'm SO glad I had the new shop building built. This would suck to try to repair on my lawn. :)
BTW, seeing as how I had a dickens of a time getting the belt to stop squeeling when I replaced the alternator, I suspect the compressor is done. After all, something had to cause the inner plate to break.

hi. Can you tell me if you have splved the squeeling? what was the cause? and how about the Ac compressor? Mine squeeling come and go. and my ac dont cool when about 1000rpm

  • @robsonbass6058

So, I bought it off eBay and just now took my stone guard off. The bearing is basically gone. I was afraid the compressor itself may have caused the breakable part to break. Looks like it'll work. I'll just finish up this yogurt and get back out there. BTW, I used the 1/4' drive socket, but with an adaptor for the larger ratchet. Worked great. I also just grabbed the solid ring on the stone guard with vice grips to spin it off. Still on the car. No wonder the belt was always squealing. I think I actually had it TOO tight.
Edit: Done. That was absurdly easy. The car runs very quiet and the AC works great! This video saved that car. I was going to dump it. Maybe I CAN get it to 300k.

    Hi
I have a denso compressor which is making knocking noise but the ac is working.
The part number is GE447280-6570 and it is 5SE12C.
Here in England the mechanics go for replacing the entire compressor , and if you tell them to change just the pulley they will think you got some sort of mental problem.
The car is a toyota avensis deisel 2.0 D4D of the year 2012.
I need your opinion and wonder if you have the part and if it can be bought from you and sent to me.
I will very much appreciate your help sir

Mine made that exact sound for a couple of months until the inner ring snapped completely. Now the outer plate is not spinning with the pulley, but it is spinnable by hand. i.e. it will keep blowing cold until it sheers completely.

In France the same, they want to replace the entire compressor, 1100-1400€ parts and labor. Haven’t found a garage willing to change only the bearings, more profit changing the entire compressor !!

Why cant they make it like other cars with one bolt not this dumb design that you need a special tool for. A plastic pulley what a joke. So to replace the pulley you need to remove the engine from the car great Japanese designers here.
