I have a photo of the actual state of the tank where he lived and where they film the movie.

The second movie on VHS came with a necklace of the carving Randoph made. I got one of those. lol I loved the first two Free Willy movies and the cartoon, yet the third one I wasn't too keen on and never saw the one with Bindi. I also did get a plushie of Willy from the cartoon as well.
I have a nostalgic memory for the 1st free Willy movie. Back when I was 3 years old my biological parents had gotten divorced. However, on every other weekend and Wednesdays I would spend time with my father. So, every Saturday my father and I would go to the movie theater in opening weekend just the two of us. He and I never gotten along until we saw this movie, and both started to get along better. We started to find common interest to bond and have a better father and son relationship. Is the movie Godfather and Citizen Kane level of quality? No, but because it did have heart and it somehow got my father and I to communicate rather than just doing something just because it felt forced by the court, I enjoy it and whenever my father comes to town and visits my family, we put the movie on as a tradition.
I watched all three movies last year, and the first one still remains my favorite, the third one IS the best one. It has the most mature story, but outside of Richter and Schellenberg, no one else comes back and it feels like a HUGE hole in the movie's own lore (Max's brother and his adoptive family are just abandoned). Also, there is a youtube documentary about Keiko that dives deep into what went on after production of Free Willy, and it's inspiring as it is tragic. There was so much that was learned from it, even if it was a failure in the end, but what broke my hear most was (SPOILER) that Keiko just didn't want to be free in the end, and yes it was in fact due to being raised in a tank his entire life.
There's a TH-cam Channel called "Epic Rap Battles of History" and one of the episodes was "Michael Jackson Vs. Elvis Presley." Elvis says something about the movie.
Poor Keiko, that is sad. This movie series will be controversial now. Capture the whale at a young age, force it do things in questionable circumstances and then when she became sick, they discard her. She died a year later? probably from stress and other things she went through. Whales and animals are not meant be captured for leisure. It is just terrible, and another dark underbelly of a childhood classic. Ooooh. They tried to do good and ended up becoming the villain. I had no idea about this, and wonder the series isn't seen or talked about so much. They tried to the right thing, but ended up doing more harm than good and whales and still in captivity, despite the awareness raised.
To be honest the effort to help Keiko is a mixed bag, it succeeded in some aspects but failed in others, however at the end of the day it's still allowed him to live where he belonged even if it was for a short while, furthermore it at least let him die where he belonged instead of in a tank like Lolita (she basically died the way they predicted keiko would if he hadn't been removed from reno adventura)
I love this movie and I like the poster. I also like the kid and the Orca whale as well. Oh and by the way orcas are my favorite whales in the world. 🐋
I met Keiko in 1999 when I was 8. He was still recovering from a horrible tapeworm infection. It was after I had seen the third movie, which is indeed pretty good. It highlighted the story of a father and his son, the father illegally hunting the whales and the son being befriended by Jesse and Willy, and how in the end by perseverance the dad came around, choosing his son in the end. A lot of classic 90s environment preaching in the way of a good story-clearly not something happening today at all-but still had enough of a shoestring of a good story to get a pass from me.
I don't remember much from Free Willy, I do know I saw both 1 and 2 in theatres, maybe 3 too, but I'm drawing a blank on that one. On'y now am I relaizing how sad that movie really was...Because I love the message of the film, but then using a whale that was in captivity. Sadly, what they should have done with Kaiko, was give him a larger and better living condition, because as much as I would have loved for him to be free, he was in captivity for 20 years, 90% of his life, which I feel truly led to him getting sick and passing away, sometimes we have to keep them in captivity, but we just need to give better living conditions.
The fact that Keiko was deemed too old to be released in the wild is proven when it returned to its handlers to be fed. It doesn't know how to integrate with the other wild orcas nor had experience in hunting. I find this quite sad, actually.
Mannnnnn....it was this and The Indian In The Cupboard. The two movies that made me cry the most as a young teenager lol. "Great spirit? I will be with you when the sun rises?" "I hate that whale..." lol My sister and I had a huge fight over what movie to see when this came. I was a HUGE Free Willy Fan, she was a Hocus Pocus fan. I won lol
You're probably thinking of Flipper which starred Wood and Paul Hogan and was about a Dolphin. There was also a cute film about a Sea Lion called Andre. Free Willy really started something back then.
Fun fact regarding the first sequel: The first sequel was directed by a director who had never before that movie directed a childrens movie and he had never again after that movie directed a childrens movie. So that makes it a very strange choice indeed.
Keiko was such an amazing Orca. He experienced the same trauma that all the SeaWorld orcas did. He was in the same abhorent place that Tilikum and many of the wild caught orcas with aggressive tendencies were kept and initially trained before being sold. Yet, Keiko was probably the most docile, people friendly, captive orca that's ever been. You can look up a document on Google that has record of any and all potentially aggressive actions that every captive orca has ever done. Keiko's only entries are taking one snap at the vet and a park rep that didn't work with him. Compared to all the other entries on that document, Keiko's incidents were not even worth mentioning.
I watched this movie many times. The first two sequels too. The younger brother in the 3rd movie was annoying, but in retrospect I think he was relatably annoying, given his circumstances? I haven't seen any of the Free Willy movies in years. Never saw the 4th, and it seems like that's for the best. Really liked 'Will You Be There' song too.
That necklace you got in one of the VHS copies of the Free Willy movies. Still have it to this day!

The second movie on VHS came with a necklace of the carving Randoph made. I got one of those. lol I loved the first two Free Willy movies and the cartoon, yet the third one I wasn't too keen on and never saw the one with Bindi. I also did get a plushie of Willy from the cartoon as well.
This movie is and will always be part of my me. I've seen this movie idk how many times.
I'm glad that Tyler got her life on track after the harrowing events of Point Break.
Also fun fact, they made toys of this movie. Because I have the Jesse character. I remember this one as a kid.
Free Willy and Indian in the cupboard had tons of play in my VCR.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, MJ started playing in my head!

Minty, how do you decide what movies you speak to on your channel?
Great Michael Jackson hee hee minty...
There's a TH-cam Channel called "Epic Rap Battles of History" and one of the episodes was "Michael Jackson Vs. Elvis Presley." Elvis says something about the movie.
Another great one 👍
The series's first season is available on amazon and the 2nd season is mostly on youtube but I feel theres stuff missing
@@RailPreserver2K They should never have released him
Free Willy 1 and 2 was definitely both good and the cartoon was good too
Could honestly say it was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid.
The nostalgia is real 😅 i watched this so many times as a kid and wanted to be Jesse so bad.
Lol right?!
Love a Comedi
C Arts video
This was one of my very favorite films growing up
Thank you for referring to Keiko, correctly, as an Orca, and not a killer whale 😊
Actually, whale killer is the original common name for Orcinus orca.
@@thatonelampent5958 correct... In ENGLISH it is. But there are other cultures that revere the species, and have names that reflect that.
That was a good Michael Jackson song and I song it for my graduation when I was little in kindergarten
#11: It's not about switching from briefs to boxers.
Hi free Willy was one of my favorite movies as a kid
"she's gonna be eating whale blubber alright. Just as soon as I free Willy."
i remember the music and the movie i loved it as a kid
I was crazy about this movie as a kid, My big brother took me to see it. I haven't seen it since
The fact that Keiko was deemed too old to be released in the wild is proven when it returned to its handlers to be fed. It doesn't know how to integrate with the other wild orcas nor had experience in hunting. I find this quite sad, actually.
Mannnnnn....it was this and The Indian In The Cupboard. The two movies that made me cry the most as a young teenager lol. "Great spirit? I will be with you when the sun rises?"
"I hate that whale..." lol
My sister and I had a huge fight over what movie to see when this came. I was a HUGE Free Willy Fan, she was a Hocus Pocus fan. I won lol
When I saw this movie, I thought it started Elijah Woods, but I also remember Lori Petty starring in Tank Girl, she also was in Gotham as Jeri.
You're probably thinking of Flipper which starred Wood and Paul Hogan and was about a Dolphin.
There was also a cute film about a Sea Lion called Andre.
Free Willy really started something back then.
Love the movie Hocu Pokus
Fun fact regarding the first sequel: The first sequel was directed by a director who had never before that movie directed a childrens movie and he had never again after that movie directed a childrens movie. So that makes it a very strange choice indeed.
Keiko is a beautiful creature, sad he was taken away from us out in the wilderness.
One of the best family movies of the 90s watched it all the time on HBO

Something something, “The Shape of Water” (2017) 😉💙
I watched this movie many times. The first two sequels too. The younger brother in the 3rd movie was annoying, but in retrospect I think he was relatably annoying, given his circumstances? I haven't seen any of the Free Willy movies in years. Never saw the 4th, and it seems like that's for the best.
Really liked 'Will You Be There' song too.
