    Deep Roy had to act as every Oompa Loompa, they never copy pasted the same clip, but actually shot each Oompa Loompa separately then placed the clip on top of each other to get the end result. Lots of work and time went into this film, and I love it.

    Fun fact: Roald Dahl hated the original CaCF movie, especially the casting for Willy Wonka, whom he, quote: "...thought 'pretentious' and insufficiently 'gay [in the old-fashioned sense of the word] and 'bouncy'". (He actually thought either Peter Sellers or Spike Milligan should have been cast for the role instead.) Dahl meant for Wonka to be a more tragic soul, someone isolated from the rest of the world and content to stay in his factory of dreams forever. And what kind of person is Wonka in THIS version?
    Tim Burton even made a point to include Dahl's wife, Felicity Dahl, as an executive producer so that the movie would end up being the version Dahl would have wanted, had he been alive to see it.
    Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the 1971 version, and that's coming from someone who doesn't have any nostalgia from watching it as a kid. I'd go so far as to say that I prefer the older version. But that doesn't mean that the 2005 version is BAD; it's a more faithful adaptation and therefore has a darker, richer story to it. It's like comparing milk chocolate to dark chocolate; neither of them is bad and they're both delicious for different people. Just because more people prefer milk chocolate, doesn't mean the darker version should be dismissed entirely.

      Obviously Roald Dahl is the creator of the character, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but thank goodness he didn’t get his way. Gene Wilder’s performance in the original is one of the greatest and most iconic of all time, and had the original proceeded like the Burton version it would’ve never become the classic it is now.
      I have several friends who prefer Depp to Wilder, and I have tried to understand, but to me it just doesn’t work at all.

      @Banni I see where you’re coming from, but the Burton film never felt like horror or “disturbing” to me, just awkward and sorta off. If that’s what they were going for, they nailed it, but to me, while the original is absolutely more whimsical and sarcastic overall, it also had a handful of moments that are genuinely disturbing to me still as an adult. The mystery of Wonka is WAY more interesting and disturbing to me as well since we never know wtf Wilder’s Wonka will do next, whereas Depp we always knew was going to do something creepy and weird.

      I actually grew up on both movies. Though I was more grew up on the original one, since my dad was a fan of it and it came out when he was around I’d say 5th grade. I think both are nice in their own unique way. It’s nice that the newer one strays ideas from the original book, but also like the musicality and friendly ness of the original version. I personally do like the original, but I don’t have anything bad to say about the new one. They’re both good in their own way.

    If there's one positive of this film it's style. It's so stylised, and the effort the set designers went to to capture Tim Burton's own illustrations of how he wanted the film to look are amazing.
    Nearly all of the chocolate room was made practically. Whilst the tunnel wasn't scary, the dragon boat made our of a boiled sweet is straight from the book, the inventing, nut and TV room also look great. And then it contrasts so much with the dreary outside where all the houses look the same.
    (also one little detail I love is how Christopher Lee says to Willy that he won't be there for him if he comes back, and in Willy's mind he sees the house missing in the row. But at the end when we does go back only his father's house is left there.)

    • @MotleyNerd
      @MotleyNerd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +91

      The "original" isn't even the original. It's an adaptation of the book, which is actually called _Charlie_ and the Chocolate Factory. And this film is honestly hyper-accurate to what's in the book, it being almost identical, with one major exception: The book has no mention of Willy Wonka's father whatsoever. The book has no mention of it, and it ends with a sequel-bait cliffhanger where they just fly off in the Great Glass Elevator with the whole family. In the sequel, they literally go into space, fight aliens with the powers of the Blob, and end the film by crash-landing into the Oval Office and meeting the President after saving a NASA rocket. This was altered for the film for a more succinct ending, and Wonka's father added instead in order to provide more of a reason to relate to or sympathize with Wonka (and also because it's honestly Tim Burton being Tim Burton).
      Tim Burton isn't always good, but sometimes he hits it out of the part, and I think he honestly did with this one, too. This film is a true love letter to the source material, to the point of even including the songs from the book. The only two reasons people mostly like the first adaptation more is because 1.) they haven't read the book, and 2.) Gene Wilder single-handedly keeps that film from falling apart at the seems by being an absolute crackhead psychopath who makes you wonder if he's really just and innocent guy who cracks jokes or if he's a serial killer that makes chocolate out of people. I really dislike that version, and Gene Wilder honestly should've let the project die like he wanted to.
