  • Hey Everyone, I've been getting a ton of questions about Wheelie Control and Launch Control since one of my previous video's. I've wanted to make this video for quite some time.
This video using my 2020 BMW S1000RR, I try and explain Wheelie and Launch Control from a "everyday" perspective. I'm not engineer, I'm going off of feeling from tons of experience relying on both and general research to arrive at my conclusions.
Let me know if you have anymore questions below!!
    Thanks for watching!!!

Great job pal. You're doing great, and this channel gonna blow up soon enough.
Try adding a few links to some of the other vids you refer to. Some people, myself included, tend to go down a channel's rabbit hole if there are links to their other great content.

To be able to do a wheelie on the Gen 4 you have to have wheelie control switched off. It won’t allow any clutch up wheelies at all whilst in 1,2 or 3. 2 is what you have when you’re in Road, Dynamic and Race.
When in Ride Mode Pro and wheelie control set to 1 you still can’t clutch it up. These only allow bigger wheelies when going over crests on the road when on the gas and at the top end of the rev range whilst accelerating hard.
So to clutch it up you have to have it switched off.

I liked hearing about launch control. Im considering a launch control just foe the fun of it. I put a quickshifter on and its a blast so i thought why not launch abd wheelie and traction control in one unit. Healtech. What i like is the ability vto set tge Max rpm right where The max torque is so you can get moving at the grab point with maximum torque when you need it.
I take your point about wheelie control bit im running fairly hard gearing so im not worrit about wheelieing.
But traction control for in the wet abd launch control seem like a bit of fun..

i had a kawasaki zh2 and when i had it on sport mode the wheelie control was on i did power wheelies on 1st and 2nd and would let me do clutch ups on 3rd and i would hold the gas and i would keep the wheel up till the rpm was done does bmw do the same or it would bring the wheel down instantly?

I've got news for all of you, the Gen 4 BMW S1000RR wheelie control is awesome and will make you look like a pro even if you can't wheelie. I have not seen any video of someone explaining the wheelie control correctly. Most say it is more like "anti-wheelie control" I will be making a video soon on how to do perfect wheelies with wheelie control that makes you look like a pro and no need to be scared while doing it. Believe me you can trust the wheelie control 100% even with the throttle pinned open 100%. The technology on these bikes are so advanced and amazing. One thing that is true though, don't drop the clutch with the launch control. It does not work like cars. Remember it's still a manual gearbox with a clutch that needs to be engaged smoothly. If you just drop the clutch the bike will throw you on your back

    • @racermac1081

@@TheBrandonAF Sure, in any Race Pro mode 1 2 or 3. Set Engine setting to max "Race", Engine Brake to "Race" with no engine brake, Traction (DTC) to "Race" minimum traction control, Wheelie (DTC) set at high wheelies possible, ABS set to whatever you want, mine is at medium. Make sure you have your DDC settings also changed to 2 on the fork compression and 2 on the rear compression and rebound. Try these settings, when you riding in first at around 6k rpm be ready for the wheelie... and with that I mean cover the rear brake... electronics can fail anytime. Open the throttle quite fast, it is not neccessary for full throttle, but once the front wheel lifts up the throttle can even be opened fully and the bike will not flip over. It will keep a very decent height and run until it ran out of revs. Hope this will assist in making the wheelie effortlessly

One huge error I have noted on many of the how to wheelie type video is the common notion that wheelies are similar on on motorcycle you just have to learn to do it on one and you can do it with others....well I have ridden a lot of years and a whole range of motorcycles and I don't believe that for an instant...I have found that there ARE in fact motorcycles that are incredibly easy to wheelie...as in through the gears no problem vs MANY motorcycle that I could never begin to accomplish anything like that! The very best motorcycle for wheelies I ever owned was a 1983 Honda XL600R ...I am not lying that bike turned me INSTANTLY into a wheelie pro! I could loft that bike at will and shift through the gears like an expert....but if I hopped off it and onto most any other bike? Yes I could maybe screw around and get the front wheel up in fits and spirits or cheat and clutch up briefly but it was nothing like with the XL600...To this day I don't know what it was with that model....it did have two carbs a smaller one and a larger one I think but maybe it was also the frame geometry and weight distribution? Transmission ratios? II NEVER would have sold that bike had I understood how special it was AND if I could ever have fixed it's notorious hot start problem which is a deal killer on big singles WITHOUT electric start!....Put electric start on that bike? It would be AWESOME....But I don't know if that is even doable with off the shelf Honda parts? Maybe put a later XR650 motor in with the XL600 top end and crank? idk if that would work even....I even thought about rigging up a can of quick start with the little tube permeantly glued into the intake hose so I could simply press the spray tip when starting the motor hot ...lol I actually don't know anyone for certain that ever fixed the hot start problem with that model....oh I also understand the Kawasaki KL600 (pre KLR based on same motor) of the same era which was also revered for it's willingness to wheelie control ably but I can't vouch for that one even though I do own a non running example

When are they going to make a wheelie control that holds you at selected angle? Imagine wheeling at say 35 degrees from first gear and holding the throttle pinned and banging through the gears and the electronics are allowing the right amount of power to just hold you at that angle as you power to some ridiculous speed.

    • @geemy9675
      @geemy9675 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

doesn't sound super complicated if you can do traction/launch control and add an angle sensor? maybe not that easy to detect angle with an accelerometer because gravity mixes with acceleration..but I guess if you can compare rear wheels speed or gps speed and accelerometer, shouldn't be that hard
other solution is be ghost rider and pop wheelies at 200+mph on a turbo Busa...

Will it wheelie in road mode?
The reason I ask is I've had problems with my 2020 model with intermittent starting.
I started off from traffic lights in road mode and the front wheel lifted, twice the same day. It never happened before in the year and a half I've owned it. I wasn't taking off too fast in my opinion, for it to lift the wheel.

REAL wheelie control would facilitate actually riding wheelies at will in relative safety (relative to the scenerio as in no obstacles or traffic smootth tarmac etc beng where it could be fairly safe) It is simply a matter of having A enough power/acceleration on tap and B enough sensors and an excellent processor....constantly the computer would modulate the throttle and brakes maybe the clutch too idk....sensors would consider everything related to bike angle relative to real level...it could also look at the terrain ahead and even factor that in ....really I see no reason a system could not put the machine into a perfect wheelie and hold it there so long as the "wheelie button" is held down...will this ever be OFFERED on a street motorcycle? lol seems doubtful but perhaps on an off-road only stunt model? Anyway totally doable I am quite certain ...theoretically with that system and maybe some gyros incoporated in the wheels? a bike could just stay on the back wheel indefinitely even stopped! Would that be a riot or what?
