Jaime! If you are allowed to give feedback to scentbird from your subscribers, would you talk to them about getting Mugler? I have been so close to getting scent bird (and using JAIMEFRENCH at checkout, duh) but I don't see Mugler on their app. Like I've even made an account and installed their app on my phone looking... and that's an expensive brand I REALLY wanna try before purchasing! Thank youuu! I love you!
I got scentbird because or Jaime and oh my god!! It seriously is helping my shopping addiction because it's cheap and yet exciting everytime I see it come in 🥹
They could have avoided most of the weirdness by having her teacher find out she was an undercover reporter early on, and then he tries to help her keep it secret.
@@renej3487 ok then it would have needed to happen after Rob got involved. Otherwise it wouldn't have been as funny. Except him dating the gymnast part would still be creepy.
That weirdness was part of the point. Her boss was angling for Josie to write a smoking scandal involving a cradle snatching teacher. Josie used this opportunity to "be" a teen without the hormone driven insanity involved in teenage drama.
@@melodie-allynbenezra8956 ok but like they coulda done this in a different way. Example: Sam finding out Josie is an undercover reporter early on and brings it up and they keep it a secret while working together to expose another teacher that really is a pedo. That would have involved a WAYY more natural relationship arc and opportunity of romance between Josie and Sam, while also giving her boss the scandal story he wants. It’s just lazy writing to justify Sam being the creep and Josie pining after him anyway.
It's crazy to think David Arquette's character could enroll in high school under a false name, take a 16-year-old girl to the prom while not wearing pants, get exposed for being a 23-year-old man, and then get a job working with minors at that same school.
You know what is really really really crazy? The number of s3x offenses at inner city Chicago schools by teachers on students. The recent report that came out in an exposé showed, if I recall correctly, 110 incidents in 2022. 😮😢
Wait wait, so not only was he attracted to a 16-17 year old and hated her for “lying” but he also had a girlfriend this entire time. That’s a BIG YIKESSSS!
I love it when Americans are really disturbed by the fact that a 17 year old could possibly date an older man while girls as young as 16 are forced into marriages in the really stupid states like Utah and West Virginia and nobody says a word.
I’ve done lots of studies on this kind or practice in show business, and since the 50s, many studios will usually hire 18 to 29 year olds to play these types of roles (though sometimes they can hire actors in their 30s) because young adults are far less of a legal hassle than minors are, even if the kids have lots of talent and are extremely nice. Plus, with underaged actors, they have to deal with limited work hours and having to attend school on these sets.
Wait, do people actually complain about you including too much detail?! For me, the longer and more detailed the better, I love these movie reviews so much! 🙏
I love the detail, especially if I haven't seen the movie (or haven't seen it in a very long time). Then again, I could listen to Jaime read the phone book in a Jennifer Coolidge impression for an hour and still enjoy it.
The scene when they throw eggs at Josie when she was and actual teenager always broke my heart, she was all dressed up, and was genuinely smiling and excited when he pulled up. Ugh and than her parents hear her cry and she runs off so they dont see her. Truly always made me tear up.
I got egged my first day of high-school, had to go home and shower, it was all ìn my hair. From that point on I was OVER IT. The next day my long time friend group excommunicated me for no apparent reason. I went from social butterfly with perfect attendance to only showing up when I thought I could tolerate the bullying. It was rough.
One time in high school I was watching this and my dad said “what are you watching?” So I replied “never been kissed” and he said “I asked what you were watching, not the story of your life” 😮😂 love that man lmao
Honestly, that's exactly the weird part. I don't think that any of us noticed as kids how creepy it was that the teacher had the hots for her when he thought that she was seventeen years old. Just because she wasn't actually a teenager doesn't make it better, because he didn't even know that bit of information. And of course, Josie having a crush on the teenage boy.
I had the world’s biggest crush on my English teacher in high school and I loved this movie because it made me feel like it was possible something could come of it…. man I was a fckn weirdo 💀💀
Meanwhile, Big is creepy for the exact opposite reason. This poor woman thinks she’s dating a 30 year old Tom Hanks and turns out he’s 13. She’d have to live the rest of her life knowing that she was accidentally a child molester. What a nightmare! But then again I can’t feel too bad because she told an actual child to call her in 10 years. Cough cough grooming cough cough
I knew it was wrong. And I was 12 when it came out. But, to be fair, he didn't do anything bad. He was attracted to her but he didn't act on it. And he was a young teacher. Like 25...he wasn't THAT much older than her. If he were 30....then yeah super creepy
There's a weird double standard in this movie as well. Because she gets upset with her brother for hitting on a 16 year old but she's all flustered but a 17 year and happy to be asked to prom by him. It's so weird. And the teacher is so weird because he was interested in what he thought was a teenager and were supposed to ignore that
I mean I guess because she knew she wasn't gonna sleep with the 17 year old boy. Like she's flustered by the attention because she has never been asked to prom before (well I mean she was asked but it was a mean prank sooooo)but she's not actually gonna date this boy for real. Her brother was like I'm just an adult who is going to hit on an underage kid like creepy peaked in HS dude
@@MaxOakland she probably should have or maybe she thought it would blow her whole trying to fit in with the popular kids thing to figure out youth culture. I wouldn't call it creepy if it stayed chaste
The most annoying part of Never Been Kissed is that she actually has been kissed. She explains to her co-workers in the beginning of the movie that she has been kissed but never felt that "special" tingle while kissing (or whatever).
Most ridiculous thing about this movie is the idea that anyone who has graduated high school, especially college, no matter how big of a loser they used to be, would go back and still give a single shit about about what any of these toddlers thought lol
@@fujikokunyes, really. Don’t discredit this which is a completely valid point. The growth from 17 to 25 is huge. You can’t seriously think one just regresses back to being 17. And her growth is not stunted. Romantically, yes. But that’s not what this is about. It’s about caring what they think. In real life, as crazy as this scenario would be, adults don’t care what childish teenage bullies think. Especially with her job and intellect. She’s actually been mature in a lot of ways that 25 year olds aren’t.
You wanna know a Drew Barrymore movie that did age well? Ever After. That movie is perfect and you cannot convince me otherwise. I watched Never Been Kissed last year and was also disturbed, and couldn’t wait for you to review it.
This movie will always hold significance for me simply because of how it portrays the trauma of being bullied. I was the Josie Grossie of my high school to the point where I made myself sick too. I hid the bullying from my mom because I was so ashamed (so the egg scene just makes me bawl every time). This movie validated my experience and made me feel like things could change someday. And I literally had the hot chem teacher tell me that I would have tons of guys into me when I was his age. The creep factor is super strong in this movie for sure, but no other teen movie for me captured the misery of being the bullied kid like this one did.
Welcome to the dollhouse is more my school experience. The way they emotionally tortured her for no reason and how are home the bullying would pretty much continue made me feel understood better than any other bullying movie ever made. I don’t suggest watching it tho it’s very depressing I don’t even watch it anymore cause it pretty much gives me ptsd.
I knew a girl in middle school who actually did read a poem she wrote about a guy in front of him and the rest of us in the same class. And it WAS really uncomfortable. But also I'm a little impressed that she did the damn thing 👏👏
@@kaywee4200 He just sat there very obviously in disbelief like "Is this actually happening?" We were all sitting there looking at each other like "Is this real life?" and I'm pretty sure the girl got so emotional she started crying. And then the teacher brushed it off with basically "wow, gutsy" and as far as I know, we all dropped it right away
@@julietmoore9778 oh thank God. Poor girl probably played it out in her head as if this was her moment to get his attention, but when it started not working, she cried or something. Just a guess of emotions. Thank God you all kind of just let it go, it was probably very embarrassing for the both of them. I hope they became friends though. That's something kids would've bullied about where I went 💔
Funny thing about the Princess Diaries fall montage is that Anne actually did fall. Proving that she is in fact the main character and all of us are just the supporting act.
I watched this with my daughter thinking she would love it as much as I did when I was younger...and she was totally like, "Mom, this movie is super weird and 'cringe'!! Why is the teacher hitting on one of his students?!". When I was her age and watching this movie, I definitely didn't find that problematic 🤨
I know Im in the minority but I was raised by a single dad who instilled in me that its wrong for older men to show interest in me and I actually did notice it was weird as a child, I even pointed it out to my aunt and she got mad and said, "It's just a movie!"
Thank goodness someone’s parent wasn’t asleep at the wheel when it came to that. I’m lucky no older men ever *seriously* pursued me because my parents taught me NADA about adult-teen boundaries. 😬
@@tessmoffett5512 tons of older men sexually harassed and assaulted me and I suspect thats very common for girls from poor families since we have to take the city bus and walk places alone often. I'm very lucky I wasn't killed but I was kidnapped and raped once, unfortunately all the good parenting in the world did not make me realize how common rape is and I took rides from strangers because I had the attitude that it only happens on tv, silly now but anyway you'd be shocked by how many me n are predatory. I honestly believe its more than half based on my experiences.
@@aurora8749 I’m genuinely sorry to hear that. It depresses me (often, honestly) to think about kids being taken advantage of like you were. I hope you’ve been able to heal from your experiences and find peace.
@@tessmoffett5512 Thank you. I sort of had but that sort of experience changes the way you view the world forever. I now have this heightened awareness of the type of true evil that exists in the world and honestly even though it was 15 years ago I always have an overwhelming fear someone is either going to kidnap and kill me when Im walking to a store or break in and kill me but its made me a better Mom I think. I will never allow my kids to go unsupervised. Its something that bothers me about my sister, she lets my 8 year old niece play outside alone all day every day. And leaves her at home alone for hours as well. You can't do that. Ive seen so many videos of attempted kidnappings in broad day light. Anyway didnt mean to turn this into a counseling session lol
As a teacher, I can confirm: I would NOT hang in a bar drinking and partying in the midst of my students. Then again, I don’t really drink or party. Oh, and I teach fourth grade. Your Drew Barrymore impression is golden. If you weren’t so wholesome, I swear you’d already have your own sketch comedy show-or be on a preexisting one. A+++ entertainment as usual, Jaime!! ❤
For real. I'm a teacher & if I see a student out in public, I try to scurry away before they can see me, lol. If that doesn't work I give a big toothy smile and wave and shout "HOW ARE YOU!! HAVE A GREAT DAY!!" and flee the scene.
Lol I've seen teachers drinking. Once at my neighbors the night before school. Another time she came running bc she saw us walking down the street like hiiiiii but never drank with them
Okay but for real, WHY was Mr. Coleslaw actually at a night club where his students hang out?? And he was asking Josie about her age like he was excited about it? Red. Flags. Everywhere. 🚩🚩🚩 Edit: Also, he is on the ferris wheel with her talking about how he is still afraid to commit to his girl-friend, especially after five years? Even if this was in an age-appropriate setting, that's another HUGE red flag! He gave Josie her first kiss, but probably not her last. Just sayin'. And then his AUDACITY to be mad at her?? Lmao why you mad bro? Cause she was about to expose your creepy ass??? Josie really is attracted to guys who are disgusting.
@Radhia Deedou in a lot of 90s and early 2000s teen media, they feature nightclubs that are teen centric. I don't know if nightclubs for teens are or have been a real thing, but it was definitely an idea they ran with in a lot of films and shows back then.
@Eri They used to have teen night at the clubs in Jackson,TN. All the usual club stuff, but no alcohol. (Yeah, right 😅) But yep! I went clubbing at 15 lol
@@radhiadeedou8286 There were under 18 nightclubs when I was a teen. I think it was 15 to 18. Closed at 11 or so. No alcohol, no smell of alcohol, drugs etc. No bags etc
Okay, I have to give a shout out the to the "old lady". Her name was Beverly Polcyn and she was my tap teacher for a time and she was amazing. I mean, amazing. She actually was a dancer on the Vaudeville circuit as a child and had basically been performing / dancing her whole life. She wore adorable little short tap costumes and once proudly stated that she didnt look too shabby in a bikini because she was a bad ass. She was a sweet sweet, funny lady and it was very cool to share a stage with her. RIP Beverly
I loved this movie as a kid. I sat down with my 15 yo daughter to share some nostalgia. We were both sooooo shocked by how messed it was. I had to apologize to her.
@Elhastezy888 she has apprentice about her movies from the 90s and said she regrets a good deal of them, but not "the wedding singer". Lol. The interview was really funny.
That scene with Billy throwing eggs at her, makes me cry. It made me cry even worse when she ran away from her mom so she couldnt see her, since she was literally the happiest person like 2 minutes prior.
The first time I watched this as a youngster, it was probably the first movie I cried to. Like, a few days later I thought about it at school and started crying
Absolutely devastating scene, I watched this as a girl so many times and I just watched this hilarious review next to my husband, I almost choked on my dinner laughing all the way through but that scene.....THAT scene kills me every time!
29:28 in this whole video, nothing threw me more for a loop and made me laugh harder than her singing 'Why do you have a banana?". i cant even justify why its so funny hahahah
Josie hadn't written the court article, it was a rival paper. I think the good thing that came from the movie is that she learned not to live in her high school trauma and her brother learned he peaked in high school.
Exactly! Makes me we wonder who the other reporter is. This story is scooped and so is the story of her outing herself at the prom. I think it's Franco's character "Jason." A couple hints pointing in this direction are that his character tries a little too hard to fit in. He says "roofalicious" instead of "roofus" and has other moments in the film where he looks more like an awkward observer than a High School student.
Ironically, not only is Drew Barrymore playing older than her actual age (not by much, but she was 24) she was still IRL younger here than most actors cast to play actual teenagers in other films where the plot does not in any way involve age deception.
@@jordanbradley3529 not trying to dispute that AT ALL. In-universe, definite ick! Just thought it was amusing that this supposedly unconvincing teenager was in fact younger than some people we are meant to believe are still in high school, in other media
Stoooop, I’m watching this while breast feeding my baby, and I can’t stop laughing at you talking like Drew 😂 my poor baby’s head is just flopping around everywhere. I’m so glad I subscribed
Okay. I think I want you to be my best friend. 🤣 🤣 🤣 My kids are grown now (almost) - 22, 19, 14 But I'm still in my 30s so I'm not too old yet 😉 You sound like me when I breastfed my babies (I suppose I was also still a baby) and your comment made me laugh! 😆😂🤣
The egg throwing scene still gets me. It’s so heartbreaking. I loved this movie so much as a teenager lol but mostly I think I just loved Drew Barrymore 😅
Ikr?? Like it would have been so easy if she was just 18 and it would have made it so much less creepy. Still creepy but so much less creepy since 23 and 18 isn’t a huge gap and it’s LEGAL
@@housecat5958 The whole thing goes totally over your head if you are European of that generation. 16 and 23 would have sounded creepy to some parents, and definitely not to teens, not at that time. It would still be legal in Germany. So - the movie wasn't creepy at all from a German point of view at the time. Having been an unattractive teenager myself: yes, at least some girls who are unattractive wallflowers or bullying victims at 16 don't have that problem 10 years later. And yes, I wish somebody had told me so outright at 16, even if it was a male teacher. By now I am happily married, but in school, you think your social role never changes.
Ok... so I totally remember the blue/grey lipstick being a huge thing back when this movie came out. It was a thing when the metallic lips were big, too... my parents wouldn't let me wear either and looking back now, I am thankful for their wisdom! 😂😂
Also, Josie was relykng on her flamboyant friend for advice on the makeover, and nerdy Josie was dyeing and doing her own makeup look..and she was no expert! I think her first makeover was meant to look bad on purpose.
As an older woman I can say I always found this creepy! It reminds me of 'Pretty Little Liars' and the student teacher romance on that. My daughter loved that show and there I was, always being church Karen and ranting about how sick it was that they portrayed a teacher grooming their student as 'romantic' and 'sexy'. It was gross! Now my daughter gets it. But when you're a young teen you just don't realize how sick and wrong it really is!
I loved the show Pretty Little Liars and use to watch it all the time after school with my best friend. Several years later after becoming a mother, I watched one episode again and about fell out with the realization that a grown man had a relationship with a minor and continued that relationship after finding out she was underaged. Now I wholeheartedly understand why my mom was so ''strict'' about who I hung out with.
I love that Leelee Sobieski's character looks like a nerd by 90s standards, but if this had been 5 years later she'd be like a cool, indie hipster. 😂 Also the band at the nightclub is Ozomatli. Their first few albums are great.
My movie was Kiki's Delivery Service. In my tiny town I grew up in, we had a VHS rental store (not Blockbuster) where you could get 4 movie for 4 days for 4 dollars, or something like that. And there were 4 of us in the family so everyone got to pick one movie each week to rent. I always picked Kiki's Delivery Service. Eventually got it on DVD as a gift for a birthday years later, but by this point I can recite the whole movie by heart. Also named my cat Kiki.
Hey, journalist here, yes sometimes assignments are this weird. I was assigned to go undercover at private schools (like 7 years ago) as a teacher in the middle east...no subject/topic was assigned. But I somehow wrote like 5 articles with literally millions of readers view each article. Loved this Jaime
Whaaat? You were sent halfway across the world for an article? Without an actual plan? Wait, does that mean that American teachers in my private high school could've been under cover journalists? Or maybe even CIA? 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️(I'm from the Middle East)
My mom was a journalist too 💜 she worked hard to uncover abuse and malpractice in medicine, nursing homes, daycares etc. I feel very proud that the world is a slightly better place because she was in it 💙 *note: she is still technically with us but her health has seriously nosedived the last 2 decades and she hadn't been able to work in a few years. But I am still proud of her
Ever After was my Drew B obsession growing up. I can recite every line from start to finish including, from the last line I can also sing the credits song. But this Drew movie was always a close second 😊
Legally Blonde was my vhs repeat, I still like it but later on I realized she did not have to be a criminal lawyer, she could have been a corporate lawyer who specifically works for the fashion industry, blending both her loves together.
I'm kind of surprised that Jamie didn't immediately crack a joke about the whole "let's put glasses on an obviously beautiful girl and pretend she's hideous!" trope when we got to Leelee Sobieski's character.
I will forever remember seeing this with my 2 best friends in theaters. You know the scene where Drew Barrymore gets egged? Well my 2 friends started laughing their heads offand the entire theater does an about face (we were seated at the top) and glared at us. Someone even said, "How could you?" I just slouched in my chair mortified. These girls were really sweet people but man they couldn't read a room.
My friend's parents cut the power right at the end of the countdown during our y2k new years eve party. And we all screamed in genuine terror because we thought the world was actually ending. Fun times 🥳
I know no one cares, but my biggest annoyance at this movie was always the fact that the mean girls called themselves Malibu Barbie at the prom despite none of their costumes looking anything like the actual Malibu Barbie doll.
If they were trying to make Drew Berrymore's character look younger and like a teenager, they did a horrible job. They did the opposite. The short over hairsprayed hair with the bleached eyebrows made her look like a middle aged church lady named Tammy.😂 If they wanted to make her look younger they should have given her a wig with longer hair and darkened her eyebrows and make them look thicker.
@@rebeccahicks2392 I mean I grew up then and was a preteen when this movie came out and even then I thought they aged her with the looks, hair, and makeup they put her in. Avocado toast was spot on with that description. It's like what a middle aged church lady named Tammy would think a teenager would wear after spending too much time watching legally blonde and Disney channel, rather than what actual teenagers were wearing at the time, which was definitely not whatever this was.
It wasnt the fashion...just look at the popular girls in the movie..They looked nothing like that..I suppose if you consider it was josies peers, who are much older..That would make sensr..Drew is beautiful..They could have done better
Despite the messy parts, I can't help but still love this movie. I reckon it's because we know they're all actually in their 30s so no illegal stuff is happening. Plus, Drew is just so loveable
Agree! I will never stop loving this movie. I used to watch this movie with my mom after we would rage clean our house. Lol We'd clean all day, then bake cookies or lemon bars and watch this, Legally Blonde, or Bridget Jones Diary. It holds that nostalgic and sentimental value to me, so it'll forever be a favorite. ❤
Even when I was younger I thought it was weird that Sam looked like he really was about to confess romantic feelings to what he thought was a student but at the same time I really appreciated the scene where Rob made it clear that he didn't actually want to sleep with his underage date so idk I think they realized how weird the main relationship was so they tried to somehow redeem themselves in the same movie~ Very manipulative in my opinion but overall I do enjoy watching this movie~
I had multiple nerdy bake sales when I was president of my university's chemistry club. We would make the periodic table of cupcakes (each cupcake was an element on the periodic table). I also made a uranium-238 decay chain of cupcakes, it was popular in the science building whenever we would do the bake sale
Should have made Sam a guy she had a crush on in college who recognizes her and agrees to keep her secret. Would have been a very different movie but that's not a bad thing in this case.
It could work! He still could have had the girlfriend he was moving with as part of the conflict or somehow his involvement with knowing her secret could have maybe had bad consequences for him aka lose his job, get in trouble for lying etc.
Wow you just wrote a better scenario on the fly after 24 yrs *slow clap* Then that line he says "Are you sure you're 17" would make sense of his suspicions I wish we could have had that tbh cause I also liked this movie and still quote Rufus to my sister
I never noticed this before. So, me and my friends had this thing about David Arquette where he just seemed to be literally everywhere in the late ‘90s and we couldn’t understand why he was so famous. Anytime he’d show up in a movie, tv show, music video, etc we would all make a big deal about it and it became this hilarious thing between us. Cut to the summer of 1997 and I’m at a music festival with 3 of these friends, the Offspring and Foo Fighters are headlining, and just as the Mighty Mighty Bosstones leave the stage, some weird guy runs out onto the stage, grabs the mic, and starts speaking weird gibberish…but everyone is losing their minds. As this guy is leaving the stage, one of the band members announces “David Arquette, everyone!” Lol. Our collective jaws hit the floor and we still talk about it to this day. Strangely, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy played at this festival. The late ‘90s “swing revival” was so strange.
This was absolutely a VHS rewatch ad nauseam for me. Also Wedding Singer, Clueless, and Legally Blonde. Watched The Wedding Singer so much, my VCR ate the VHS and we had to buy it again. I had a MASSIVE crush on Mr. Colson and was so jealous of Josie. 😂 Also, Drew Barrymore just killed it in this movie. Absolutely aged horribly, Mr. Colson is a creep and Josie definitely gets weird with Guy, but her flashback scenes always get me. I cried every time with the prom scene.
Jessica Alba’s face always CRACKED ME UP when Kristen says, “That you would trip on your Barbie heels and I'd be named prom queen... Did I just say that out loud?” when they were at prom. 😂
Jaime! My parents (in their late 60s) have been binge watching your videos and my mom asked me to beg you to review a movie called Babette’s Feast. It is the weirdest movie we’ve ever seen yet still family friendly. We have so many questions after watching it and we feel like you would have even more. We love your work!!
I will need to check that out. I wish she would do My Father The Hero because it's such a bizzare plot that is filled with scenes that are incredibly awkward and often inappropriate.
32:48 oh my gosh I just realized that Josie is so much like that one rando from Mean Girls who “just has a lot of feelings” to express even though “she doesn’t even go here!”
As a 13 year old kid in the early 2000s with a new DVD player in the family room, I was obsessed with this movie, Legally Blonde, Practical Magic, 10 Things I Hate About You, Charlie's Angels, and Miss Congeniality. I played them All. The. Time. I know I drove my family crazy.
I recently saw a super wholesome TikTok of the actor who plays her assistant saying that because of Drew he got to elevate his character and did a lot of extra lines in the movie, and he was super grateful and loves Drew. 🥰
Jaime I have come to enjoy your content so much within the past year , so much that it’s become sort of a comfort for me. I have a rare autoimmune disease that causes me to have to give myself injections every two weeks . I get so nervous and anxious doing this. Recently I have been playing your videos in the background while I do my injections and it greatly relieved my anxiety and distracts me from the pain. Very random but I just wanted to share how your videos not only entertain but also Help in my own day to day struggles .
The music choice for Josie’s sad, humiliating prom attempt was absolutely perfect. Every time I hear Madonna’a “Like A Prayer” I think of poor Josie in that wonderful pink 80s prom dress which was the same hot pink metallic foil lamé material as a lot of 80s Barbie’s dresses- which I always thought was soooooo pretty growing up 🫣😬
Teen Witch is another movie I think would be a great to review. It’s an 80s teen dramady about a girl who gets magical powers and uses them to get her crush to fall in love with her and of course things go awry. It includes but is not limited to a ridiculous song and dance number by cheerleaders in a locker room, and an unbelievably cringey rap battle which there is an interview for years later by the cast who talk about how lost they were doing the scene.
Story time! I went out on a date with my teacher from middle school after I just turned 18. I ran into him at a restaurant a week before when I was still 17. He asked me how old I was and I told him that I was 17 but I was turning 18 in a few days. He gave me his number and told me to call him after my birthday and we could go out and celebrate. I had a little crush on him when I was in middle school, so I was pretty stoked that he was practically asking me out on a date. I didn’t realize how creepy that was until looking back. What’s worse is that during our date, he told me that he always found me attractive. He was 26 at the time we went out, making him 22 when I was 14. Aside from that weird comment/confession, he really creeped me out. After our date, I went home. While on the phone with my bestie to tell her about what happened on the date, he showed up at my house. He only lived a few blocks from me so I suppose he had seen me at some point entering or leaving my house.. but still! He asked why I wouldn’t kiss him. I told him that I just wasn’t feeling it. He left after trying to kiss me again and we never had any contact after that. (Side note) there was a rumor going around our school at some point that he was having a relationship with a student in the same grade as me (8th grade) but I never really believed it. Not until after I went on that date.
This is one of my all-time fave films-I’m so glad it’s getting Frenched. Totally Rufus! Point of order: John C. Reilly is mad at Josie for NOT getting the story about “The Court.” Another paper scooped the story, because Josie wasn’t cool enough to be close enough to any of the gals who hang out there. Another journalist got the quote. So, it was a stakes-raising moment for her to get “cool,” or get fired. Also: whenever Drew Barrymore cries, I cry. She is incredibly genuine in that egging scene. Something about the way Madonna’s “Just Like a Prayer” swells in the background makes it all the more effective. 😢
To be fair…the mean kids put the toilet paper in her backpack, it wasn’t there originally - poor Josie 😰😰 And the article about The Court was not from Josie’s paper, it was a rival paper that got to the story before Josie did, so that’s why he was so pissed off at her 😅 Man I’ve seen this movie too many times 😂
I can’t stop laughing at your “whyy do you have a banana?” 🎶 That you took the time to record, harmonize, harmonize again, and put reverb on it to add to that tiny little detail only you would notice- but also then yeah! What DO you have a banana? 🤣🤣 Please be my best friend. You’re hilarious as heck.
Six years into my teaching career, a non teacher friend and I went out to a bar. She spotted a good looking man looking over at us and got excited when he came over to speak to us, only for us to discover that he was an ex student of mine (he left secondary school in my 2nd year of teaching, aged 16 and had clearly been hitting the gym. He would have been around 20-21 when we were at the bar.) I can confirm that you do indeed leave. It was VERY awkward.
When Anne Hathaway fell on the bleachers in PD, that was actually an accident lmao. But I totally thought growing up that falling would be much more of a thing, and I've actually thought to myself many times now "wow I never fall"🤣
Mine was definitely Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion. Definitely was not age appropriate for how old I was when I fell in love with that movie. But needless to say, my 5th grade self, (yes 5th grade), knew all the lines and one sad day, wore the tape out. I’m 35 now and can still say about every line 😂😊.
Drew Barrymore just hits different. The Wedding Singer was one of my VHS comfort movies and she ALWAYS made me cry with her reaction when he started singing that dumb song on the airplane.
I love all your movie reviews, but this?! This review was EXTRA funny to me. The "raised eyebrows" bit had me bursting out in laughter! All the cut away gags, the clever wordplay, the commentary? GOOOOOOLD! PLEASE don't stop with the "extra" details. It's the best part of these vids. Love you!
I love that you reviewed this. It’s kind of a bittersweet thing for me to watch this movie. My aunt, cousin and I were watching this when we were kids. When young Josie is getting ready for prom and she looks *gross* my aunt asked my cousin if she wanted my aunt to do her hair that way for prom and my cousin laughed and of course said no.. my aunt died about two years later from cancer. This movie always makes me think of that.
Josie didn't carry toilet paper in her backpack. One of the bullies put it in her backpack before another poured the sprite in it. I backed it up twice to check. Lol
I'd like to see a story about an adult enrolling in high school for whatever reason with a reveal that a bunch of the characters figured it out and didn't rat on the adult because she was able to buy beer for them with no trouble.
Yes I've been waiting on you reviewing this movie. I used to watch this so often, same with wedding singer, she's all that, bring it on, cruel intentions lol and clueless. I rewatched this movie during lockdown and remember thinking how creepy some of it was.
I have to add some more of my favs lol - 10 things I hate about you, Fear, Jawbreaker(my friends and I were obsessed with this one lmao), the craft, Ever after a Cinderella story, fools rush in, can't hardly wait, even spooky movies like I know what you did last summer and the 1st scream.. ugh there was just something so different about this Era of movies lmao.. I adored Drew Barrymore, Freddie Prinze Jr, Jennifer Love.. Ugh lol
@@sniperfoxxx6543 I loved all those movies too. Forgot to mention The Craft. I was late with jawbreaker tho I was obsessed with Heathers then and then we had mean girls come out. The horror movies then were iconic just today I was discussing the chase scene in I know what you did last summer never being topped! So many classic movies then, legally blonde and sugar & Spice are some others too.
I have been following you for years, I love that your full movie reviews are basically the inside of my mind and every single thing I think of that I thought no one else noticed 😂😂
As a kid, my go-to's were _The Nightmare Before Christmas,_ _Watership Down_ (also very kid-friendly - especially the part where the cute little bunnies were ripping each other to bloody shreds) _The Brave Little Toaster_ (which, upon revisiting as an adult, I realize is pretty hecking dark for a kid's movie about sentient appliances) and _The Neverending Story_ (minus that one part I always skipped; you know the one.) And now looking back at my most-watched list I've come to the conclusion that I was either channeling my inner-Wednesday Adams, or movies were just more hardcore in the 80's/90's.
I always knew it was flippin weird . But damn I love this movie because drew played a nerd SO WELL and it made me laugh and cringe lmao. also girl, Josie WAS NOT the one who wrote “the court” article , it was another journalist. And her boss was pissed because that’s a story she missed or could have wrote about. right ? lol
I think the biggest reason any of these so called high-school movies aren't creepy is that "kids" are played by adults, so it's hard to see them as children. Because they are not. If in any of these movies or series like Riverdale, Pretty little liars, Euphoria or whatever, children were played by actual children, people would be grossed out of their minds. Because every illegal flaw would be painfully obvious. And 90% of scenes would look seriously gross because 90% of scenes are of sexual nature.
I get your point, but those shows have actors who are also adults. I don't believe any of them from those shows are actually under 18. I could be wrong though.
But here's the bigger issue, the story is supposed to be about people who are underage. There are screen writers and directors who are writing sex scenes for underage characters, its creepy and weird.
idk the scenes in Euphoria are pretty creepy and uncomfortable to me. i like the show , but even the adults playing teenagers doesn’t make me feel any less creeped out when a sexual assault or drug scene pops up 💀
I agree. We saw this when Cuties came out in Netflix. People were really upset with it because real children were involved and that’s a lot more confronting. Of course, in the case of Cuties, exposing the sexualisation of children was the entire point.

They could have avoided most of the weirdness by having her teacher find out she was an undercover reporter early on, and then he tries to help her keep it secret.
Omg that solves most of the problems.🥲
BRO. then her brother wouldn’t have had to get involved!!
That's the sex pest-to-coach pipeline in action.

I love it when Americans are really disturbed by the fact that a 17 year old could possibly date an older man while girls as young as 16 are forced into marriages in the really stupid states like Utah and West Virginia and nobody says a word.

The reason why she could blend in as a 17 year old is because she’s in a movie where obvious adults play 17 year olds 😂
The funny part about that was Jordan Ladd and Marley Shelton played the mean girls, and are both older than Drew Barrymore IRL. 😅
It reminds me of Grease lol everyone was like 25-30, and same with Jawbreaker-no one really looked high school age
@@kellywelsch7235 Grease was on purpose tbf 😂
I’ve done lots of studies on this kind or practice in show business, and since the 50s, many studios will usually hire 18 to 29 year olds to play these types of roles (though sometimes they can hire actors in their 30s) because young adults are far less of a legal hassle than minors are, even if the kids have lots of talent and are extremely nice. Plus, with underaged actors, they have to deal with limited work hours and having to attend school on these sets.
Wait, do people actually complain about you including too much detail?! For me, the longer and more detailed the better, I love these movie reviews so much! 🙏

The scene when they throw eggs at Josie when she was and actual teenager always broke my heart, she was all dressed up, and was genuinely smiling and excited when he pulled up. Ugh and than her parents hear her cry and she runs off so they dont see her. Truly always made me tear up.
Same. The uncool 2000s high school kid in me related so hard. Though thankfully no one did anything like that to me.
I know! Poor thing 😢
Omg yes, when her mom calls for her and she’s too ashamed to be seen or she doesn’t want her mom to worry about her, it kills me every time 😫

I like how you put the ad breaks in to the content intentionally and warn us. I’ve never seen another creator do that and it seems nice!
He even seemed disappointed when he found out he was "allowed" to be attracted to her
I had the world’s biggest crush on my English teacher in high school and I loved this movie because it made me feel like it was possible something could come of it…. man I was a fckn weirdo 💀💀
@@HayleighPaige I had a huge crush on English teacher too.
I knew it was wrong. And I was 12 when it came out.
But, to be fair, he didn't do anything bad. He was attracted to her but he didn't act on it. And he was a young teacher. Like 25...he wasn't THAT much older than her. If he were 30....then yeah super creepy
To be fair, I think Josie was less interested in the popular boy and more weirdly obsessed with reliving her high school prom the "right" way.

I agree with this, and I rarely see anyone comment about it on her end. Her teacher and her brother were in the wrong for sure, but so was she.
The most annoying part of Never Been Kissed is that she actually has been kissed. She explains to her co-workers in the beginning of the movie that she has been kissed but never felt that "special" tingle while kissing (or whatever).
I always thought she was lying because she didn't want to be made fun of further.

The growth from 17 to 25 is huge. You can’t seriously think one just regresses back to being 17.

It’s about caring what they think. In real life, as crazy as this scenario would be, adults don’t care what childish teenage bullies think. Especially with her job and intellect.

Ok... so I totally remember the blue/grey lipstick being a huge thing back when this movie came out. It was a thing when the metallic lips were big, too... my parents wouldn't let me wear either and looking back now, I am thankful for their wisdom! 😂😂
Yeah, EVERYTHING was frosted back then 😂
I had a lipgloss that color, and it smelled amazing. I wish I could remember what brand it was
@@sailorarwen6101was it a bonne bell lipgloss??
Also, Josie was relykng on her flamboyant friend for advice on the makeover, and nerdy Josie was dyeing and doing her own makeup look..and she was no expert! I think her first makeover was meant to look bad on purpose.
Gosh, I had some of the frosted blue bonne bell, and my mom was so offended by it's existence.
I, too, loved this as a child. As a teacher, I am positivity horrified now.
I love that Leelee Sobieski's character looks like a nerd by 90s standards, but if this had been 5 years later she'd be like a cool, indie hipster. 😂
Also the band at the nightclub is Ozomatli. Their first few albums are great.
So glad to find another Leelee Sobieski fan in this comment section because she was the best in the 90s.
@@shanalicachitaI've always liked her for some reason lol
The Nerd fashion -> Stylish pipeline is a real thing
Exactly what I was thinking! And she’s always been attractive, no matter how they tried to make her character nerdy… Lol
Not 5 years later. Hipsters were like 2010. Not 2004.
My 8 yr old loves all of those movies. Kiki, Totoro, Castle in the sky, howl, spirited away. They’re all so good.
I love kiki!!!! Such a sweet movie
me too!!! and pocahontas lol
My story is exactly like yours except i kept my neighbor totoro constantly checked out from our mom n pop rental place.
Howls moving castle and spirited away we're my favorites as a kid to rent on VHS ugh 😩 that was a locked memory lol 💗

Legally Blonde was my vhs repeat, I still like it but later on I realized she did not have to be a criminal lawyer, she could have been a corporate lawyer who specifically works for the fashion industry, blending both her loves together.
Legally Blonde was released in 2001, DVDs were already widely used, VHS was well on it's way out by then.

I just slouched in my chair mortified. These girls were really sweet people but man they couldn't read a room.
That one scene where she gets egged by the guy she thought was her prom date... yeah. That's still sad to this day. Drew's cry broke my heart.

Jamie's channel should be considered a public service from having rewatch these movies we thought that we liked!❤
That was what was fashionable back then, so teenagers who wanted to look good did look like that.
@@rebeccahicks2392 dang. Really???💀
@@SMG2MC Yeah, I was a teenager in 1999 and bleached brows and volumous hair were not in fashion. She looks bizarre.

Same! Still one of my favorites 😂❤
Yup
As someone who cries a lot, I couldn't help but chuckle at the cuts of you crying bc of the egg scene, and then also Our Planet. Same girl. Same.
I was laughing and crying at that point!
As a young gay who loved anything with Drew Barrymore, this was one of my favorite movies growing up. So glad to see you reviewing it!
same, on all accounts 😂
I hate that I agree. Definitely Didn’t age well 😭
I had multiple nerdy bake sales when I was president of my university's chemistry club.
That would have been so much better! Especially if he tried to help make her cool lol
@@Morepanthers Yeah, I liked that she had a brother to help her in that area but Sam would have worked too.

That's so funny
The swing revival was strange, but I freaking loved it!
I vote you do more Drew Barrymore movies so we can keep enjoying your spot-on impression. 😂
The Wedding Singer ❤
The Wedding Singer is SO GOOD. Thank you for reminding me that I should watch it again.
Drew Barrymore has been killing it since childhood.

Ooeeerr yes! I 2nd that.

😳😳😳
I was hoping someone else picked that up about the news quote. I love this movie!!
To be fair…the mean kids put the toilet paper in her backpack, it wasn’t there originally - poor Josie 😰😰
And the article about The Court was not from Josie’s paper, it was a rival paper that got to the story before Josie did, so that’s why he was so pissed off at her 😅

They were just hardcore... and us 80s/[Early]90s babies are just built different!!🤣🤣
I always knew it was flippin weird . But damn I love this movie because drew played a nerd SO WELL and it made me laugh and cringe lmao. also girl, Josie WAS NOT the one who wrote “the court” article , it was another journalist. And her boss was pissed because that’s a story she missed or could have wrote about. right ? lol
Yes
yep! I was thinking the same thing! I remember distinctly her boss saying "we got scooped"
@@xxanixbananyxx in ppl the actress who played allison was 14 on the pilot, same as effy actress on skin was... so they use real children sometimes 💀
