D4 is Blizzards game to make, or kill. Really is up to them, Jonathan said it best in this interview, they have to look at the bar that other games are setting and rise to meet it. This is something that D4 seems to be consistently failing to do. Also, interesting about Johnathans favorite games... Myself, I was more into C&C Gold and the first Red Alert. I did play Half Life for quite a bit, and Quake 3 a while later. That said I really didnt have a great PC in the early 90's, we got our first PC in 1993, and it was a 486 DX2, so wasnt really up there for most games. It want until the early-mid 2000's after I left home that I saved up to build my first PC and could play other games. But I still liked C&C and Starcraft more than others, even more than Diablo. My 1st person shooter of choice back then was the original Battlefield 1942, or Unreal Tournament.

Hope you guys dont take time off on friday, that would be a mistake. Take monday off if anything..
the last decade or so most companies focused on CASUALS, where the big mass of gamers is. That made POE stand out !
The " Double A " games got bought out thats where they went. The big megacompanies with unlimited budgets bought them and then the games sunk because it became a corporate investment instead of devs that really cared about their games.
Thanks for being honest and insightful as always Jonathan.
The difference between PoE2 livestreams and D4’s are staggering. GGG always seems excited to talk about their project. Blizzard devs look run down and reluctant to be there.
Rare IGN W nowadays
What was incredible profound but seems so obvious is being aware of the new minimum standard that people expect. All developers should pay attention to this. I’m looking at you Ubisoft 😒
Jonathon is probably the most likeable dev out there, the way he talks he talks like a gamer and not a corporate stooge.
I'm so grateful this man (& Chris) exists
I appreciate Roger talking his shit.
Great unscripted interview! Love it! Thanks for sharing them.
Games industry needs more Jonathan's and GGG's.
GGG > AAA
Imagine being this gigachad's son and watch him play the absolute unit of a game he is the lead dev/programmer for. I loved my dad, got to game a lot with him before he died but it's safe to say that is one lucky kid indeed.
So if your dad made a sick ass game you would have loved him more?
@@sanctumknight3945 I could not have loved him more, one fact does not detract from the other.
Idk what made you misinterpret my take. I mean, i'm lucky for many other reasons my dude.
Why is there always someone dumping their trauma into someone elses sucess....
@@eightlights4939 Indeed, i don't wish to have had any other person as my dad, i was just empathizing with that kid.
It's awesome how Jonathan has answers to questions and adds more content so cool.. a kiwi game is amazing 👏 well done
I just wanted to see an interview with Jonathan and Miazaky together.
Great interview, love the way jonathan talks and how they seem to run the place. looking forward to playing the game. didnt get into poe1 as just to much. but this looks like a nice upgrade and combat and skills look fun. starting a fresh be good too
I have over 5000 hours in POE1, so it will be interesting to see how much of a difference the play style is
Ah, the ONE dude i still respect on IGN.
Despite it's ign and we probably shouldn't be there but the company deserves every single bit of exposure to broader audience, it's probably one of the very best ones considering handling feedback and communication, community in broader sense and have "game first" mindset instead of focusing solely on monetary gain, making them deserving every penny we can support them with
What is the biggest standout in my eyes is the overall combat... all that combined with incredible animation and particle system, truly next gen compared to everything else in the genre.
So excited for a difficult game in this genre at this caliber.
great interview. great developer
okay what an awesome interview. thank you for asking the most important question of all about whether POE 2 can dethrone Banana game
diablo 2, online had the perfect economy back in 2004-2007
Great interview. I cant wait to the friday 😢
please give a honest and thoughtful review of this game and start to restore peoples faith in IGN as a game reviewer, becuase right now its not even close.
Diablo like. Arpg. Whatever. Game is good. Fun. Stress buster. I'm in.
It was Bungie but I think it was 'repeating that 30s of fun over and over throughout the game' for Halo.
What comes across in this interview from the director is - passion. Something sadly missing from AAA games.
What is Jonathan made out of, guys doing about 3 interviews an interview it feels like, actual machine
I made some timestamps with AI. The times might be slightly off.

7:25 update from release day, they did not in fact have enough servers
Who can't wait for the 6th December?
You know the bit of the interview where Jonathan talks about steering the game designers away from relying on paid for features like stash tabs for progression? yeah Blizzard hated that part
Really cool guy. I am glad the game will be a success.
apparently it also needed one shot enemies with no telegraphs in two separate games
Oh another Exile-like game! I'll be checking this one out.
I heard their studio has internal competitions and the winners get 5000 divine orbs in the next league start to have some godlevel fun
Absolute bosses
The man is an interview machine
This is the definition of an exile-like game
I think the guy is very smart and old school creator , like blizzard use to be once upon a time .
Too bad druid won't be playable in early access but still looking forward to this regardless
