I've used many crkt minimalists over the years since they came out. Nothing wrong with the steel. Most of yous don't actually use your knives and just look at steel rating charts and count most steel out as bad steel for literally no reason but hear say. Would I pick that steel and get dropped off in the wild for a year and trust my life to it? Absolutely not lol. Is it sufficient for edc from your house and your next star bucks? 200% yes. Stop stressing over steel types people unless it's for surviving or hunting or going to war. Cutting cardboard or opening mail it doesn't matter
nice to finally see a video on this exclusive. This is my very favorite neck knife. I have both blade finishes, and I dyed the scales on the black washed blade one, and it looks amazing. These things are hidden gems and one of the best values on the market imo. To me its essentially a perfect knife.
I'd have to disagree about the D2. I'm not a knife guy or collector of any sort, but I am a mountain and climbing guide and used this as my go to neck knife for about a month in the field where it quickly became a rusty mess. Hiking 8+ hours a day for weeks on end with salty sweat rolling down into the sheath ruined it. I had my older "cheap" version for over a year without issue and though I would upgrade to this improved one. Again I'm not a collector, I just use the thing, and wrongly assumed the D2 would be better. I guess it might be in edge retention, but that's never been an issue and corrosion resistance is far more important to me.
CRKT really needs to put out different steel options and scale options sort of like benchmade does with their custom builder. Imagine being able to pick from about 4 steels, 5 or 6 different handel colour or materials, and also blade finish. Figure the price range would be from $50-$125 think that would be a huge hit for CRKT. PS. I need this version before it disappears
I just bought the Gears model Bowie in Green Glow for my daughter. Got the SPIT version awhile back and it is my go to work knife! Love the Minimalist group, good stuff.
I have the regular minimal cleaver and love it, just a nifty little edc that really does it all with ease, and the ergonomics are super comfy for whittling 🙂 I am gonna have to get a fancy one now 😁
this is my every day carry, I also loved the sheath style, My other favorite carry is the old Timer sharpfinger. Both are excellent defense weapons to get threw tendons
I have this one and honestly I don’t think the D2 performs very differently than the 5CR15MoV, I don’t know why, maybe their heat treatment is on the softer side, who knows. I still like it and carry it, the black tactical version I have carried since 2014 and it’s a great working knife, sure it gets dull after a few minutes use, oh well it’s easy to sharpen, I strop it on my homemade pocket strop I carry and it’s back to work.
10/10 Grip/ergonomics are divine (unless you have large hands or fat fingers.) Was well worth 25 bucks. Doesn’t print at all when worn under your shirt. Great for general edc utility and can be drawn, deployed quickly if you ever find yourself in a fight or flight situation where flight isn’t an option. Hopefully simply drawing it will do trick to pacify a situation, only ever once was forced to do so and this lil guy was there for me. If it wasn’t so dam easy to carry I might have chosen to not have it on me 24/7 that 1 instance.
Love my minimalist but hate the Steel! Gets dull when you just look at it! I would like a custom Alan Folts minimalist. Did you check the customs out? Have a look, Great color's and everything
I bought the CRKT S.P.E.W. , and Minamalist "bowie"....I was surprised to discover they BOTH are made of such cheap steel...5CR15MOV....I assumed they were made of the typical CRKT steel which is 8CR 14 MOV.. This featured D2 is more appealing
I really dislike finger grooves and these are some of the worst in terms of creating hotspots when you're actually working with the knife. It's fine in a straight grip cutting tape or something, but when you start cutting things that torque the knife back the grooves become annoying. Definitely prefer the flytanium scales even though they're pretty huge.
Throughout the video all we hear is your disdain for 5CR steel over and over, and over and over and very little about the minimalist itself. You made it about you and doesn't inspire at all.
I don't think anything is "simular" to anything. Because that's not an actual word... lawdogdaddy usa (great username by the way, what country are you from?)
@@MattRoseKnives I am American so sorry you are so petty and I secure that you have to get on you tube to show off. Your post just further proves how insecure you are. They shouldn't let little boys post on TH-cam
Video is too long
Agreed
Dan Beam was attacked by 6 guys on the subway in Chicago summer 2022 and fought them off with a CRKT Minimalist Bowie.
Heard about that. Crazy story
Battle tested in the streets of chiraq. Now, that's something to be proud of.

Fair enough! It really is a great choice for an EDC fixed blade
The SOG "Snarl" is another great neck knife , as well

People that always swear by the steel are people that never need it.

That would be dope!
Well Alan folts ( the designer of this knife) sells customs in 154cm steel. They are really hard to come by but they are out there.
I purchased the Tanto in green handle.
Love it!!!
I have this knife and find it is a great niche knife. I have one mounted on all my bags.
Great call!
Definitely a constant in my EDC rotation!! Great video Hulk Brogan!!
Haha many thanks! It's a solid knife!
Whats your opinion on the 8cr material? I find it holds an edge much better while still being stainless.
I just bought the Gears model Bowie in Green Glow for my daughter.
Got the SPIT version awhile back and it is my go to work knife!
Love the Minimalist group, good stuff.
I did get this with the Micarta and D2…with my preferred Persian blade. Very, very pleased.
I want to pick one of those up! Love the blade style
Use it for what you want, but to me it's strictly defense. This is the knife they don't know I have.
👍👍👍
Thats what its for to me. This and the spew.
I guess there’s the off chance where your in a struggle and can’t get to your firearm on your body but not very likely.

Haha good call. They’re great blades
The Crkt S.P.E.C is one of my favorite edc knives ever, it's the same blade profile but with a different scales and a little more length
this is my every day carry, I also loved the sheath style, My other favorite carry is the old Timer sharpfinger. Both are excellent defense weapons to get threw tendons
Great choice!
It's a neck knife. Last resort
I can care less about steel handle materials.
Fair
I just bought the same one on ebay and am very happy
Good!
The blade looks much nicer in person than it does in its pictures, but I just don't like the squeezed playdough handle
Agreed! And fair haha
The bowie's the best among all of the Folts Minimalist lineup.
How do I make sure I’m getting the D2? Lookin on blade HQ and the CRKT site
How easy/hard is it to sharpen..?
Can you scout carry this blade?
Sure can. It’s set up that way
Could this go on my boot ?
Probably

New OD Green micarta and D2 Bowie on SMKW! Just dropped. Check it out!
Looks dope!
Is this good in the sink somebody with if you get into an altercation or if you need self-defense?
Can’t speak to that. Not proficient in any martial arts. Perhaps someone else could speak to that?
Damn you SMKW for not shipping to Canada!
Um psssssss whats the chance you want to sell this knife?
Haha sorry man, hanging on to this guy
@@MattRoseKnives can't blame you on that. Lol

Haha totally get that. I'll have to check the customs out. Grab you one of the D2 versions, steel will last much longer!
Does the belt clip hold securely and is there any play while it’s in scout carry? Thanks
Holds it very securely. Okay is minimal if any. But this may vary per blade.
Anybody else have issues with this line of knives falling out of the sheathe ar random?

he just wanted to brag that he had an exclusive.
unless you use a particular steel you shouldn't judge it and all that other shit you said was nonsense.

It's not a working knife. It's a last resort self defense weapon knife.
Nice joke
