Greggs' top 10 wrestling video exploring the theme of "Wrestlers who killed their own careers" promises to be a riveting deep dive into the highs and lows of professional wrestling. The wrestling world is filled with stories of triumph and tragedy, and seeing the moments where careers took unexpected turns can be both fascinating and heartbreaking. Now, about Mr. Kennedy's stint in TNA as a school teacher, it was like watching a surreal storyline unfold before our eyes. It's akin to witnessing a group of monkeys attempting to teach a bunch of bananas how to do calculus - utterly absurd yet strangely captivating. Not like Darby used "real glass" either. Neither did Sting. If they did we'd have retired both of them in caskets with giant shards of glass sticking out of them.
If they'd just kept those originals and build the thing around Cody, Kenny, Jericho, The Bucks, MJF, Moxley, Pac, Page, Derby, Sammy, Pentagon and Fenix etc then it could have been something cool. But they just kept adding and adding and adding bodies. Adding guys like Hook, Private Party, Nick Wayne and Wardlow is fine because they were kind of raw, mostly young unknowns who could start at the ground and work their way up to the top but constantly signing main event level guys was a terrible idea.
Jack Perry could get major heat from AEW fans if he came back and claimed he’s the reason ‘you know who’ is gone, without referencing Punk directly, and that he took away what the fans wanted and they want to see him get his ass kicked being a mouthy heel, should be working on his promos skills for that.

They certainly are going to stick by an original that has progressed better than any of the new talent in AEW over this egomanical clown. Seth was spot on about Punk.
Jack Perry ruin his career by fighting with CM Punk over his own safety. He had a very bright future, maybe was gonna win a World Championship one day and possibly still will but it’s sad that how huge of a star he was in AEW but now he’s in NJPW and hopefully he can do something great there
Saw him on NJPW other night looking like young John Morrison, TV, wrestling, etc...looks like he may have gained a little weight. Still has a ways to go.
doubt that, there was a simple confrontation with CM Punk and Punk was "fired" and Perry went to Japan. Seems kosher to me for the most part, Punk left and Perry is honing his skills in Japan as he was a mid wrestler prior. Pro wrestling is rather simple in regards to it's machinations.
3/4 of the Pillars have fallen off hard. Darby is a glorified Spike Dudley at this point Sammy is a failed Dirty Dom that botches a lot more than Nia Jax And then there's Jack Perry summarized by this video MJF is still promising despite being involved in that lame Devil storyline and that bidding war he still pushing around.
@@pr12rhodesgraveyard26 don't get me wrong but while Darby is a good wrestler, he should take it easy with the hardcore spots or suffer a career ending injury if not cutted off short
0:27 Punk was just trying to protect Jack Perry from his own stupidity, the Jackass. Same as Hangman Page, many of these AEW wrestlers think they know best, won't take advice from veterans in the business, and think that actually killing each other for real will get them over but it's not. It all starts from the top, Tony Khan won't take advice from people who have been in the business far longer as well and it trickles down to his talent.
If they get hurt, they get to sit at home and collect money. So it's basically a race to see who can get hurt the fastest and often enough to collect millions from Richie Rich while working the least.
Jack Perry is busy growing himself in Japan as a wrestler. He will be back and they will either screw up his return creatively, or put him into one of the hotter storylines at the company. Kid has potential and I think the sending of him to Japan is all been planned out.
New Japan is the modern day Ohio Valley Wrestling. Perry is getting seasoned in New Japan, so that will help him get over as a mega heel back in the states.
Punk is just as bad, pro wrestlers need to get there shit together. Fake matches don't make you a badass IRL, look at Punk in MMA for reference. Brock did it because the guy is a physical monster but Punk is fairly normal in regards to physique. As for Jack Perry, idk... Guy will likely recover within a year or so and rebound his career as a heel. Punk will do his final run for the World Heavyweight Championship and likely get it and then suffer another injury (as he is injury prone) and then heal up, do another less fruitful run and then be stuck on commentary and/or a managerial role. Not that hard to figure shit out when the deck has been sifted through a dozen times.
I actually think if Perry returned, it could finally be his big break. He is literally the reason their biggest draw was fired, which would lead to a massive change in the wrestling industry. It screams a big storyline, but of course they still have to play their cards write.
This is amazingly asinine. It's Perry's fault that some thin skinned narcissistic diva physically assaulted him over a completely benign comment designed to get heat, which was literally his job as a heel? That's what you're going with? Blaming this on anyone but Punk is completely ridiculous.
Jack Perry never should have gotten as far as he did in wrestling . I’m old school, I like watching larger than life characters beat the hell out of each other , not scrawny gymnasts with famous dads who I, a common man, outweigh by 100 lbs and stand nearly a foot taller than. Sorry not my thing and judging by wrestling’s fan base lately, it’s not most of Americas thing either. It’s sad what happened to pro wrestling .
Well, when you get in a wrestling ring. Your thoughts may have merit. No matter his size, which is actually standard for the average wrestler, and larger than the average high flier. He'd still send you to the hospital in 2 pieces if you stepped into a ring, skooter so....SETTLE DOWN !!!!!!!!
The craziest part of it all is that a mid-carder (who’s still new to the business, no less) could get away w/ cussing out staff members and doctors AND challenge the biggest star of the company to a fight over a forgettable spot on a pre-show. I think had the altercation not have happened, Perry would’ve never been reprimanded by Tony Khan in any way.
It's very telling that when you see the title "AEW Wrestler Who Ruined His Own Career" your immediate reaction is "Which one? I can list three just off the top of my head"
How could Tony Khan possibly fear for his life? He must not have seen Punk's UFC fights. He didn't do any moves. How could he end someone's life in a real fight? Nonsense!
The funniest thing is that Punk took out the Young Bucks with one arm. The guy doesn't know how to fight and he was able to handle both brothers at the same time.
So he basically fired Punk because he shit his pants when Punk got angry someone tried to turn a fake fight into a real fight using real glass. He for some reason thought an employee standing up for safety in the workplace and protecting wrestlers and bystanders from glass injuries was going to murder him in front of a room full of witnesses. Sounds like a rational decision. Sounds reasonable to fire your most famous wrestler for this.
Pretty wild how one sly comment essentially led to a wwe renaissance, a major down turn in aew attention, the rebranding of one stars career (cm punk) and the down fall of another (perry). All over a situation that could've been resolved with a simple "my bad, shouldn't have said that"
Punk is older than Jack Perry. He should've been the bigger person in the situation. Not act like a child. But it also falls on Tony Khan for not controlling his wrestlers.
Yeah punk acted like a child and perry is a child. Grant it, cm punk was just about to step out into the ring so was probably nervous. Punk wouldn't have done that had he not been on next. The whole thing is Tony khan's fault
Tony Khan ruined Jack Perry once He had him lose to Christian, AEW fans go crazy when an old WWE guy comes in so, even if you mean no harm. Once you have one of your own talents lose to a WWE guy the way Jack Perry lost to Chrisitan so fast. You kill any momentum after
Don't blame christian for jackoffs wrongdoings. He did those himself and he's such an arrogant prick in real life, its hard to have the tiniest sympathy for him
Jack had nothing that made him stand out as "yet another HBK wannabe" in a company packed with them once he dropped his gimmick. Even trying to turn him heel & act like a crappy nepo baby wasn't interesting cuz it was just... him. Hell, I'd argue that pairing him with Hook damaged Hook's momentum. And as others pointed out, he had absolutely no reason to involve himself with the Punk v Bucks situation. Only one that I can think of is that he wanted to kiss up to the Bucks, which is just sad. He's not exactly missed, and his legacy will now be "the kid who said The One Joke that AEW diehards think is a witty reply to anyone insufficiently praising the company on Twitter".
He should have stood with Jurassic express that’s the best home grown then they had they looked like a tag team because Perry is just not that interesting on his own
did Jack kick off the chain of events that night that led to Punk getting fired? Yea, sure. But acting like it's all his fault is just dishonest. Punk is a notoriously difficult to get along with person, some might even call him toxic. It's ALWAYS someone else with that dude... and even then, I only hold him about 25% responsible for this mess. Tony himself is the one at fault, he could've laid down the law as the boss at any point but instead he wants to buddies with the locker room first and the boss second. He LITERALLY tried to just ignore the problem in hopes it would go away RATHER THAN DEAL WITH HIS ROSTER. Jack is at worst 5% responsible for all this. Tony is 70% responsible. If he wants to blame someone for "losing CM Punk" he should blame himself.
Lmao try again. Punk was asked by producers (possibly Tony Schivane) to stop Jack from using real glass. Jack refused to listen. He has a long history of disregarding the advice of older wrestlers per Billy Gunn and his own admission. The stuff about punk being difficult to work with is complete bs.(not that you would even know lol). If anything he made Jack Perry sound like the reasonable one in this event, while in reality Jack was the one who taunted Punk on national television and then walked backstage to instigate more. Especially considering how AEW completely failed to transport Punk to the arena to the point where he had to ask fans for directions to the venue. Funny how there's so much drama with Punk in WWE now right? Oh wait they actually properly manage their talent.
Let's be honest here if Jack didn't say that line then none of this wouldn't have happened. Say what you want about Punk and being difficult but I haven't heard anything bad about Punk since going to WWE. To me he was just in a bad environment in AEW.
You can't blame Punk for what he did, he took upon himself to stop the bullying from The Elite, tried to cared about his piers Jack Perry from getting hurt and instead got disrespected. Important to note he's a good friend of late Terry Funk so he did exactly what Terry Funk would do if he disrespected
Hangman Page also went into business for himself on TV and dissed Punk. How many times does that have to happen for Punk to be justified in his actions? Is he suppose to just roll over? Cause we all know that TK isn't going to do anything about it, so it's up to the talent to stand up for themselves. If this was WWE, then maybe you'd be right. But it isn't! So yes, it's the instigator and TK's faults. Hangman, The bucks and Jungle Boy didn't need to air their grievances publicly and should have been fined by TK for doing so to set a precedent. Punk shouldn't have to fight the locker room for respect, because he wasn't disrespecting anyone publicly himself!
In this case? This is Perry’s fault for: 1. Using real glass despite him saying no to it. 2. Taking bullshit backstage on camera like a 2 year old. About the only truth you said here is about Tony Khan.
You know, the Spoiler threw San Antonio promoter Joe Blanchard out of his own office over a payoff. Ole Anderson got shoot knocked out by Black Jack Mulligan on a weekly basis because Mulligan didn't like Ole's bookings. NEITHER FELT THAT THEIR LIVES WERE IN DANGER. Promoters don't have to be tough, but they can't be soft.
Jack's biggest mistake was going "off script" with his little pissing match with one of the top guys. The fact that this moment cost the company one of their big draws only compounds this. In another company, that little off script would have cost him his job as soon as he walked through the curtain. That he did it to protest being protected from being an idiot and possibly costing him and the company a shitload of money should someone (himself included) be hurt, well that just makes it all the worse.
And now he turnt into the most interesting wrestler on the roster and has the golden opportunity to become a star, due to the video. Times has changed I guess:)
Felt like the turning point for AEW. It all started to go downhill fast after that. I loved watching AEW, now I struggle to watch a full episode. What a change the wrestling landscape had in such a short time. AEW and NJPW were hot af for some time and then just cooled off. Now, WWE is back to creating better shows again. NJPW have lost a bunch of wrestlers too.
I just don’t know what he thought was gonna happen. They used to have this pseudo “master/apprentice” dynamic on wrestling which made sense for a time. Older, more experienced and well known wrestlers and the younger less known up and coming guys working together under a banner of respect and understanding, and then it changed. Which is cool. I don’t think anyone should just feel lucky to be there or carry anyone’s bags. Fuck that. But you have a guy like cm punk, a top guy, and you have a glorified jobber like Jack Perry and he’s gonna openly disrespect him like that? Would he have done that to omega? Or Jericho? What did he think would happen?
I remember Marko Stunt a little bit. I swear I think he’s smaller than Rey Mysterio. …….I’m not kidding that I’m JUST now realizing Luke Perry is this guy’s father- But yeah he screwed himself there big time. He should’ve just listened to the literal veteran when he says don’t use real glass because it’s too dangerous.
I said something a few days ago and someone had it deleted. Punk had a huge ego and holds grudges. He told someone they shouldn't do something dumb (and he was right, it was.) They did it anyway and called him out for it. He could've waited and said something to him after like a professional but his ego couldn't handle it and he put hands on him. Then went off on other people (miro). He was fired for his actions. But, because he (and his fans) hold grudges, they attack the company as a whole. They (many of you, be honest with yourselves) want a company with hundreds of people to go under and for them to lose their jobs because you hate, at most, 10 people. You treat punk like a god who can do nothing wrong when he's as guilty as anyone else for all of this. If he didn't attack perry for what he did (perry was absolutely wrong for that, btw) he would've flipped out on someone else for something else. He decided long before he didn't wanna be there anymore and was looking for a way out. Accept that. Accept that aew is flawed, as flawed as any other promotion but they are good for the industry as a whole. They deserve to be around and succeed for the business, as a whole, to thrive. So... put aside the nonsense and move on.
u know why people hate aew? they were two sides and they took one side and fired the other. What punishments did the elite get for starting the whole issue? none. They ran cody off and they ran punk off. keep watching, they will also run mjf off soon.
@@MysticKing777 Now doubt as he still does have mic skills but his body can't hold up. I think the MMA and subsequent training in BJJ wrecked his body. He started late and never was athletic.
CM Punk is the reason why CM Punk is gone from AEW. He has put his hands on multiple performers and that shit cannot slide. It’s pretty sad to see a bunch of marks cling to their hero even though their hero is wrong.
Jack Perry is killing it with The Elite right now. The promo on Collission was awesome. This must have been recorded just before NJPW in Chicago because he is over AF. I like the new Jack Perry regardless of what others say. I'm certainly not alone.
Jack Perry is an example of a well-off dude's child, who never had to realistically consider career choices. It was like "Okay, I like wrestling, so I'll become a wrestler". Everything he does, he says and shows shouts "I don't wanna be here".
Did he ruin his career or did Tony Kahn mismanage the situation? The moment that CM Punk returned @ Survivor Series they should’ve been looking to make Perry’s return. They should’ve had an International Championship match between Orange Cassidy and Lance Archer @ AEW Worlds End where Archer could’ve lost but beat down OC a lot during the match. Following that a masked and hooded Perry could’ve made his return attacking OC and staking his claim for the title. I would’ve even had him wear a shirt that read “Cry Me a River”. The following Dynamite (First of 2024) you could’ve had “Hollywood” Perry come out and recite Punk’s Raw Return Promo in his own spin and challenge OC @ AEW Homecoming 24’. He could’ve cheated to win the title and we could’ve ran the rematch back @ Revolution 24’ where OC tells the Best Friends to stay in the locker room because he needs to do it alone; Perry could’ve retained and continue to beat down OC which would prompt a debuting Okada to run down and make the save for his CHAOS stablemate. You then set up Perry to be Okada’s first feud @ AEW Dynasty for the International Championship where Perry can drop the belt to Okada and face him in a rematch @ Double or Nothing 24’. Perry could’ve lost there too prompting him to bring House of Torture to the States and have HoT Vs. CHAOS in AEW 🤷🏾♂️ but hey, I don’t own a wrestling company.
If I was a carpenters apprentice and a guy whos been working with wood for 20 years told me I was putting my self and other at risk i'd listen. That's basically the situation Jack Perry was in, too much of an ego for having such little skill.
Imagine running heel Young Bucks AFTER Punk is gone. This is exactly why this company will never be profitable. Everyone and their mother wanted to see CM Punk and FTR vs The Elite. The story wrote itself, it was obvious, but because Tony mother fucking Khan doesnt have an actual pair of nads we didn't get that. Even though, from reports, Punk seemed to be pushing it. I cant stand those 2 Jackasses, and them being in a position of power is only doing the company harm.
Not to bury the guy, but he was never good enough to lose sleep over. He was always the man cut when discussing the company pillars, easily replaced by actual talent like Ricky Starks. And with MJF gone now. Nobody is chomping at the bits to get Jungle Jack back on AEW TV. But he did do everyone a favor and Punk is back in WWE at it's current peak in almost 10 years. Which completely buries AEW's ability to compete with it anymore sending AEW down to TNA's level to compete for promotion 2 rather than 1 like when Punk was on the roster. WWE putting out it's best work is best for the wrestling business, regardless of what it means for the 2nd tier promotions. And being on NJPW and collecting a AEW paycheck every week, is hardly a punishment. If he gets over in Japan like Kenny Omega, then it's great for him. Too bad that Kenny could talk regardless of the language and could actually wrestle... so I doubt he'll get the same treatment.

Punk was asked by Tony Schiavone to confront Perry. Correct the record
Jack Perry is busy growing himself in Japan as a wrestler. He will be back and they will either screw up his return creatively, or put him into one of the hotter storylines at the company. Kid has potential and I think the sending of him to Japan is all been planned out.

That's a clueless take but congrats on being a new wrestling fan
Aged like milk. Jack currently new member of the Elite and the crowd is losing their shit every single time they see Jack.
Must feels bad. He’s super over.
How could Tony Khan possibly fear for his life? He must not have seen Punk's UFC fights. He didn't do any moves. How could he end someone's life in a real fight? Nonsense!
Have you seen Tony khan I think a pettite woman could sneeze on him and he’d be injured 😂
The funniest thing is that Punk took out the Young Bucks with one arm. The guy doesn't know how to fight and he was able to handle both brothers at the same time.
Even someone who trained for a UFC fight is gonna look more intimidating to someone who has no experience at all.
Sounds reasonable to fire your most famous wrestler for this.

did Jack kick off the chain of events that night that led to Punk getting fired?
This is Perry’s fault for:
"I want to use real glass!" ask Goldberg how that went for him in WCW
Glass has a nasty habit of going into business for itself. - Bryan Alvarez

Well CM Punk was looking out for Jack Perry’s safety. A lot of wrestlers today are unsafe, and do pointless spots to try and get over.
NJPW have lost a bunch of wrestlers too.
you sure pal?
Or Jericho?

None of the pillars are currently wrestling. Two are out because they messed up and the other are injured

But he did do everyone a favor and Punk is back in WWE at it's current peak in almost 10 years. Which completely buries AEW's ability to compete with it anymore sending AEW down to TNA's level to compete for promotion 2 rather than 1 like when Punk was on the roster.
