Yeah and they have that same feeling of not just attacking on sight but rather hunt you. Btw the fox design is so great because when it is in dense vein shrouds you can barely see it and when on the ship it feel like being circled by a shark, just seeing some movements in the corner of your eyes and not being able to scan it because vein shrouds block the scan.
Both are also plant-based, too. The bracken is made out of leaves, and will poof into dust upon being killed. Meanwhile, the kidnapper fox is based on the amount of vein shrouds which can be comparable to IRL weeds. Don't think John himself is made out of plants, though, but he is definitely linked to them.
John is an interesting idea for an outdoors enemy but I only ever see the vainshrouds spawn on the damn ship which just makes him spawncamp the entire team. He feels needlessly complex compared to the other outdoor enemies. The nest should be more clear so you know when he is dangerous
this is fixed in the public beta version. on version 55, the current public version, the vain shrouds spawn too often and encompass the ship most times and far too early into the run. i haven't gotten far enough in a run with friends to see if the shrouds still end up swarming the ship later on though. as far as I remember the nests were way further away from the ship in the newer version
I feel like John would be WAY less hated by the community if Zeekers just moved its nest away from the ship. He's hard, he sucks, but so do a lot of other monsters. He's one of the only ones who are just kinda B.S.

One time on Rend my team used the jetpacks to get to main, while I walked. When I got to the cabin the Kidnapper Fox grabbed me and pulled me behind the house to kill me. lol
John really shouldn’t make you drop your items. Outdoor mobs should really reside in 2 niches in terms of gameplay imo: avoidable hazard or punishment for staying too long. Giants, Eyeless Dogs, and Old Birds fall into the latter category. Circuit Bees, Baboon Hawks, and those little flying guys fall into the former. Kidnapped Foxes fall into neither category. The fact they grab you and make you drop your items makes countering them extremely unreliable. They have the potential to spawn camp your ship so they’re very difficult to avoid. They are hyper aggressive so you can’t even live and let live. They’re as deadly as a dog and can spawn at any time. I like the idea of them being a hazard that grows worse the more you visit a moon, but the spray should take out 1 or more shrubs in just one spray if you want it to be an actual counter. Considering John tends to nest in the shrubs, using the spray is already super risky, so it should at least be rewarding.
I'm extremely curious about the vain shroud AI, and I'm a bit disappointed you just brushed over it. When you fail to eliminate all the vain shrouds, do they increase linearly or exponentially? Do they increase only on days you visit that moon or every day that passes? If you remove some vain shrouds, do the ones you removed immediately respawn or is their deconstruction saved? How many new vain shrouds appear on the initial vain shroud spawn day and every growth opportunity after that? How are their spawn locations chosen (do they spread out in a circular radius around the initial location, or do they spread in a specific direction)? I feel like you could do a whole video on vain shrouds, and I would love to see it!
I remember my first ever encounter with John. I’d been alone on the ship at the start of the day, after my friends had gone into the facility, wanting to do mission control since we’d heard some freaky noise when we landed. When I went to close the door, this bitch John suddenly snatched me THROUGH THE FLOOR of the ship and killed me instantly. I never even got to see what the fuck had done that!! It wasn’t until our second time meeting John that I saw him and realized exactly what happened. Waayyyy too many times have my friends and I experienced getting ganked by this dude inside the ship, alone or not. I’m glad John is gone. If I ever meet him again, I hope he’s not himself by then 💀
my biggest issue with the fox is I can't find clear ways to avoid the fox if it spawns (I play multiplayer), so I basically need a shovel. You already pretty much need a flashlight, so an extra shovel seems like a pain in the ass
the kidnapper fox(john) is why so many people are afraid to go outside and touch grass(probs because it kills you in the grass/weeds), the kidnapper fox(john) is why we have so many hermits in the world.
Hey i have some questions : 1) I heard and experienced that if you enter contact with John mouth, it will insta kill you but is it true only in his kill zone or everywhere in the map ? 2) Does vein shroud number save between days if you stay on the same moon ? 3) Does the 18 seconds timer start if you walk into the ship without stepping into his nest ?
I wish we knew more about the Vain Shrouds. We had a session recently where we visited Artifice 12 times in a row with zero vain shrouds. Then, a few vain shrouds appeared, and the number of vain shrouds increased over the next 3 days. Then we had 12 straight days where John appeared every single time. Vain shrouds appearing on the Company moon, but they seemed stuck to the ship itself and would lift into the sky with us when we departed. Is the idea that the the plants get stuck to the ship and spread from moon to moon as we land and take off? I wish we had detailed info on this.
1) No, only within 7 units of his nest while being dragged or within 16 units of his nest for up to 2.5 seconds after hitting. 2)Yes, it only resets when you make a new save. 3)It only exists in phase 2, so no.
@@lightningfinger I think you're thinking of how the kidnapper fox stows away on ships to reach new planets. The vain shrouds have their seeds purposely spread by the company to get employees to buy more weed killer
This is literally the worst enemy in the entire game. And not only that, Zeekers was told not to release it by the community testers, and they "fixed it". Only to release the update without the fix. They promptly removed john from the game for the meantime, Lmao.
They way it looks and the sound design are excellent, the design perspective of a threat to people that stay on the ship is also excellent, however the mechanic of the vain shrouds is the main problem with how they work
Just wish he didn't spawn on experimentation at all. Too big of a scare when people are still running from hoarding bugs not knowing if they're a threat or not
Considering the it can't attack unless it's within a certain range of its nest, I think 7 is fine. Giving it any less HP would feel like it would be too weak.
It's tanky, but that's honestly fine. When you kill it, you won't have to deal with it for the rest of the day since another one can't spawn. It's similar to the bracken, which has 2 less hp but is hard to hit without a shotgun due to it being able to instakill you anywhere.
From what I've seen and what people are saying, his kill range should not be anywhere near the ship. It kinda looks like he's a bit of a spawncamper. His nest's initial point should be set to spawn somewhere a certain distance away from the LZ. I also dunno if his attack range also increases with nest range but I assume not since it wasn't shown or said to expand. So I'm assuming it's just where the nest initially was set up.
I, and I assume a lot of other players also, would probably not dislike John as much if vain shrouds didn't seem to spawn specifically on the shuttle in pretty much every map. The only time I have had vain shrouds spawn elsewhere on the map was on Offense and Titan, the latter of which still being extremely close to the ship anyways, and the former being right up at the main entrance. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but most people seem to have the same opinion of John being a bit bs. At least with this video, I know how to counter it, so there's something good! I appreciate the deep dive on the AI in this game, especially for John.
Was really wondering about this dude cuz when playing I just didn't understand it exactly. Thought it was almost an insta-death, but shovels are important now.
the fox would be such a cool enemy if the vain shrouds didn't always spawn around the ship. i don't think i've ever seen them not completely surrounding the ship
But hawks attack pretty much almost everything to . I’ve seem them target dogs, giants, robots, and like idk anything that moves I assume. So like they actively target everything.
Literally the addition which broke Lethal Company, it still spawns way too close to the ship & wipes teams way too easily. I hope Zeekers mega-nerfs it soon because in the meantime it requires mods to actually be playable
if you have a group at the ship its also very effective to have everyone with shovels gang up on him since he has a small stun every time he gets hit, so stun locking is very much possible with I think 2-3 or more players. probably easier with knife to stun lock him as well.
Also, the fox can't pull you off a ladder, so you are safe there. It's also easy to hit him when he enters the ship, though I recommend you use the file cabinet to wedge yourself if you get caught
no. he said in a video that John can be killed by outdoor entities. But the only entity that actively TARGETS him are hawks. Dogs do not TARGET him but they do KILL him

Like the idea of giving ship players some actual struggles (besides dogs or mimics) is cool but RN it's just WAY too dangerous. Maybe the fox should Make a loud noise before coming onto the ship to warn the Ship player. Closing the door right infront of the foxes face should also stop the fox's agro on that player. That could turn THAT mechanic into like a cool, fnaf like micro management thing for the ship player which could be pretty fun.
my first and so far only encounter with john was getting hit once while on the ship late evening on titan, and just immediately picking up a shovel and sprinting out after it shouting "COME HERE" im not trapped on this moon with john, hes trapped on here with ME
important note, the previous method of blocking off the ship with the bunk bed and shelf CAN actually prevent him from pulling someone out of the ship, however you probably wont be of much help considering how much john likes tonguing the terminal worker.

How he ACTUALLY worked: sat on the ship and instantly kills you when you attempt to play the game
Kidnapper Foxes are the perfect way to get new players to stop playing very quickly, as these guys have appeared for me by day four.
If I ever meet him again, I hope he’s not himself by then 💀
"When John attacks you, he will shoot out his tongue and attempt to grab you"
L4D2 players getting PTSD from smokers: 💀💀💀
The smoker is from L4D1
Lol yeah
me and my friends now scream "ITS JOHN" and we all know what we're talking about, thank you ego
"what does the fox say" they asked.
*The fox has had enough*
my biggest issue with the fox is I can't find clear ways to avoid the fox if it spawns (I play multiplayer), so I basically need a shovel. You already pretty much need a flashlight, so an extra shovel seems like a pain in the ass
Well, no more Johns.
‘Smoker’s got me!’
dude i never realised that that the face looked like that i thought its head was always sideways
The opening gives the same energy "So, I bet you're wondering how I got here..."
who's here after John got temporarily removed from the game?
the kidnapper fox(john) is why so many people are afraid to go outside and touch grass(probs because it kills you in the grass/weeds), the kidnapper fox(john) is why we have so many hermits in the world.
Hey i have some questions :
1) I heard and experienced that if you enter contact with John mouth, it will insta kill you but is it true only in his kill zone or everywhere in the map ?
@@OblivionFalls i am pretty sure it says in the bio for it (or the kidnapper fox's), the way they spread is by attaching to ships and spreading
@@lightningfinger I think you're thinking of how the kidnapper fox stows away on ships to reach new planets. The vain shrouds have their seeds purposely spread by the company to get employees to buy more weed killer
@@lightningfinger The Kidnapper Foxes stowaway on ships and they end up carrying Vain Shroud spores that get stuck to them onto other moons.
Missed opportunity to name him Swipper
John would be less hated i feel if he had a nest like the Baboon Hawks that spawns further away from the ship
Fox that kidnapps
With V60 out, it looks like the fox got temporarily banned for spawn camping, heh.
This is literally the worst enemy in the entire game. And not only that, Zeekers was told not to release it by the community testers, and they "fixed it". Only to release the update without the fix.
They promptly removed john from the game for the meantime, Lmao.
forest giants are way worse
They way it looks and the sound design are excellent, the design perspective of a threat to people that stay on the ship is also excellent, however the mechanic of the vain shrouds is the main problem with how they work
It's back. I just got killed by it.
@@korvo3427 😦
@@korvo3427was it a save where the fox was still in the game?
Just wish he didn't spawn on experimentation at all. Too big of a scare when people are still running from hoarding bugs not knowing if they're a threat or not
Does anyone else think 7 hits is a little too much health?
Considering the it can't attack unless it's within a certain range of its nest, I think 7 is fine. Giving it any less HP would feel like it would be too weak.
It's tanky, but that's honestly fine. When you kill it, you won't have to deal with it for the rest of the day since another one can't spawn. It's similar to the bracken, which has 2 less hp but is hard to hit without a shotgun due to it being able to instakill you anywhere.
Honestly 7 is fine.
@@toastr1255 the bracken only has 3 health, the fox has over double lmao
@@toastr1255 bro a bracken has 3 hp, do your math right
From what I've seen and what people are saying, his kill range should not be anywhere near the ship.
"before you skip..."
skips
Imagine David Attenborough on lethal company
Whoever is doing the SponsorBlock segments for this channel, god bless
Lol shhh

Was really wondering about this dude cuz when playing I just didn't understand it exactly. Thought it was almost an insta-death, but shovels are important now.
PLEASE make a video on the AI behind roaming locusts 🙏🙏🙏
I’m already using mods to stop John from spawning. I’ve had John insta spawn on low tier moons on our fist day, immediately losing a third of my team
the fox would be such a cool enemy if the vain shrouds didn't always spawn around the ship. i don't think i've ever seen them not completely surrounding the ship
JOHN SHOULDN’T SPAWN IN EMBRION 🗣️
Sir, there is another enemy called old birds... I think they attack everyone.
He said hawks are the only enemy that TARGETS John. Old birds *can kill* John, just as dogs *can kill* john. They will never actively TARGET john
But hawks attack pretty much almost everything to . I’ve seem them target dogs, giants, robots, and like idk anything that moves I assume. So like they actively target everything.
played a ton of artifice with weeds completely taking over the map, never once did it seem like the old birds paid the kidnapper fox any mind
Literally the addition which broke Lethal Company, it still spawns way too close to the ship & wipes teams way too easily. I hope Zeekers mega-nerfs it soon because in the meantime it requires mods to actually be playable
It's getting disabled for version 60 according to him. Take that as you will.
if you have a group at the ship its also very effective to have everyone with shovels gang up on him since he has a small stun every time he gets hit, so stun locking is very much possible with I think 2-3 or more players. probably easier with knife to stun lock him as well.
I cannot wait for you to explain the AI of the ghost girl because that one is by far one of the most interesting AIs, next to the bracken definitely.
1:53
John: "Huh? A! AHHH-"
1:18 somehow john jumped scared me lmao!!
I can hear the ship guy grabbing the radio and screaming into it
First time I encountered one of these I hit them with that 'SWIPER NO SWIPING!'
Also, the fox can't pull you off a ladder, so you are safe there. It's also easy to hit him when he enters the ship, though I recommend you use the file cabinet to wedge yourself if you get caught
I've been waiting for this video specifically. the fox has started absolutely destroying runs for me and my friends.
I actually witnessed john getting folded by the blind dog but that might of been a bug since it was in the beta version
no. he said in a video that John can be killed by outdoor entities. But the only entity that actively TARGETS him are hawks. Dogs do not TARGET him but they do KILL him
@@sdfggdfg5fgdfg
Hawks and Dogs can only attack John via hearing
I really think these informational videos shouldn't have ads slapped in the middle of them ngl.
Bro is getting tongued as we speak

Mean things
"I'M GETTING DRAGGED AWAY-"
The fact that nobody can stay in the ship to monitor the cameras is ridiculous. By far the most unfun creature of this game
Agreed. I've seen people put furniture at the ship doors now since that apparently blocks them.
@@blitzball9915 I think it's alright as long as you can stop it by shutting the door before it actually gets in. It serves as another thing for terminal players to do on the job.
I totally agree.. this is the worst addition to the game.. me and my friends dropped it.. until either they remove him or nerf him.. all the other monsters are fun and I dont remember if we ever got soo irritated over a monster before.. but when this guy came out, it was ridiculous.. worst update ever.. the dev has started to ruin his own game just like AAA games..
@CrazyCorimac it's really not THAT serious. It's just overtuned because it's new.
That could turn THAT mechanic into like a cool, fnaf like micro management thing for the ship player which could be pretty fun.
its so cool how unique the monster AIs in this game are
my first and so far only encounter with john was getting hit once while on the ship late evening on titan, and just immediately picking up a shovel and sprinting out after it shouting "COME HERE"
im not trapped on this moon with john, hes trapped on here with ME
these credits requirement are getting out of hand
I remember when I brought a boom box to play outside the ship, almost immediately I got decapitated.
R.I.P John
As good as your videos are, and as helpful as they've been, you cannot make me play War Thunder.
important note, the previous method of blocking off the ship with the bunk bed and shelf CAN actually prevent him from pulling someone out of the ship, however you probably wont be of much help considering how much john likes tonguing the terminal worker.
Giants are far more annoying, why does everyone hate this guy?
Giants can be avoided
John can't
Dude i went on artiface last night and the entire map was covered in the shrouds
Does the door function become inaccessible to everyone on the ship, or just the person that's caught by the fox?
I just want to say these videos are amazing. Gives me a lot of appreciation for Zeekers to see all the background stuff he does gor this game

Even though they dont have a most common moon, i'd say it'd be Artifice. I have seen SO many on artifice. My first encounter with one was on artifice.
