    Went from my wish list to ordered! Do to arrive here next week as I delayed shipment when placed order. It's my first astro imaging camera and I'm looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish with it.

    Hi Ken. It's good seeing a new video from you. We'll be making another trip from the Fresno/Clovis area soon to pick up another telescope and more accessories after this SIP is over and you guys reopen.

    Interesting product. I believe on par with QHY. I love Orion. For everyone on this thread I can honestly say that every piece of equipment I have purchased from Orion has worked as described. Having the capability for longer exposures is great. What’s the back focus on this camera? I imagine it’s about the same as other 1.25”.

    Im having some issues connecting this camera with the autoguider to PHD2, I've been reading the instructions which have been telling me to select Starshoot Mini ASCOM camera on the list of selectable cameras on the PHD2 autoguiding software, and there is no such option.

    Hi. I have a question. I bought the classic dobsonian xt6 telescope kit from your page and my order still in backorder. The expected ship date is 9th of April. So I was considering changing the classic xt6 kit to xt6 plus kit. Since they are exactly the same price would it be possible to change it for the xt6 plus kit?

    Hi Ken, I am trying to use APT with the Orion StarShoot Mini 6.3mp Color Imaging Camera (CMOS). I can not get anything to display in APT using the Orion StarShoot Mini 6.3mp Color Imaging Camera. The liveview screen is blank and when I shoot a single image, it is blank. With the gain and exposure cranked up to 5 second exposures and gain at 3000 in the daylight focused on a tree leaf, the APT screen is blank as well as the resulting image file. The StarShoot Mini works fine in Sharpcap and the Orion StarshootIC program, but no luck in APT. Must be missing a setting but I can't figure what that might be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. APT is connecting fine to the camera based on the fact it's autofilling in the specs correctly in the Object Calculator panel. The logs show that the camera is working fine with no errors. I'm using the same ASCOM camera driver in Sharpcap and it works fine. I am able to use my Canon T6 DSLR in APT without issue, so I know that my basic configuration for viewing images in APT works for other types of cameras. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm completely stumped. Thank you in advance.

    Can this go in a Star Blast?

    • @oriontelescopes
      @oriontelescopes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the StarShoot Mini works very similarly to an eyepiece, it will work with most telescopes that use 1.25" eyepieces.

    I just picked up a starshoot mini 6.3mp camera, I cannot find any reviews, talk, or chatter about it even though this was released last year. Can you direct me to some astrophotography taken with this camera? I am kind of disheartened that I seem to be all alone here. Is there a forum somewhere?

    I bought a Orion Sirius EQ-G Computerized GoTo Telescope Mount from your Cupertino site and it's spec at 30 pounds load. I have been using a Nikon DSLR and Nikon lens so the weight has been no problem. I'm thinking about getting a telescope, CCD camera, Autoguider ... etc for the mount. Can you really run that mount at 30 pounds or should you run only 20-25 pounds? Thanks and be safe out there.

    • @oriontelescopes
      @oriontelescopes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weight ratings for astrophotography depend on a lot of factors, like the length of the telescope and how the weight is distributed, but it's generally a good idea to stay under the max weight rating. Depending on the specific equipment and how conservative you want to be, we usually recommend staying about 10-20% under the weight rating as a very general rule of thumb.

    Hi, Ken I always enjoy your videos. So I have to say thanks for helping me setup my new Orion starblaster telescope. I am new to the deep space camera and not really sure. Ok what I mean is this. I pointed my telescope up in the dark sky and I use an adapter to hold my phone camera. purely by accident I touched my camera and it took a strange but amazing picture of something in the deep sky. So I got to thinking what if I get a deep space camera but as I said I know nothing about them. Except that they're very pricey. My question then is is that piece your holding in your hand a camera? are a piece that goes into a camera? And can you do a review about the camera and the piece that goes into it? Just to show how it really works on the telescope.

      Glad to hear you've got some nice pictures! The product shown is our new StarShoot Mini camera, it replaces the eyepiece in a telescope, and connects via USB to a computer to capture images.

    Hey I just got mine 76m spaceprobe az and I’m having trouble viewing Jupiter and Saturn, the detail isn’t their I’m using a 10mm eye piece, do you recommend any other eye pieces? Edit- The moon looks perfect I’m assuming I need a higher magnification to view Jupiter and Saturn but I’m not sure.

    So I found out my mini had a filter already in the C mount. Any idea what filter this is? I've been trying to figure out why my lunar images and images of stars were always green. The filter is so clear I nearly didn't even see it. When you turn it to the side however the filter looks purple. I can't find any mention of it in the guide or the filter packing list on any platform or on any paper in the box. Anyone have any idea what this filter is?
    Thanks

    • @oriontelescopes
      @oriontelescopes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The filter is an IR cut filter that allows visible light to pass through while blocking near-infrared to avoid interference in images. The purple tint when viewed at an angle is thin-film interference from the anti reflection coating. You might check the white balance in StarShootIC, that could be tinting the image. Or if you're using a different program to convert the Bayer matrix to color, the wrong conversion filter could be applied. It should be RGGB arrangement pattern for the matrix patter (not BGGR, or BRGR). If you'd like to send a unconverted fit file to us, we’d be happy to take a look at it and help troubleshoot further.

    • @2019RS3
      @2019RS3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oriontelescopes I just wanted to say thank you for this help. So I was able to adjust the white balance in the Starshoot Mini. Turns out if I subtract 50 from the green I get rid of the green. I am still learning the ropes but feel like I am starting to understand a little better what I am doing. Just have to figure out at this point how to increase the magnification so I can shoot Mars.

    • @stargazer4574
      @stargazer4574 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not know what equipment you have, but if you don't have very high quality eyepieces I'd improve those first. If you do have, I'd go for something bigger like a 12" or maybe even a 16", but that's just my personal taste.

    • @Handles-R-Lame
      @Handles-R-Lame 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah i agree with StarGazer45, the jump between an 8" Dob to a 10" is small, it is noticable of course but you may be disappointed. Unless you wanted a goto system of course. If your looking to upgrade the size of aperture, i would suggest at least a 12" or above because the difference will be small. Just opinions of course, go with whatever you feel is best, and makes you happy in the end!
      Clear skies and happy gazing! 🔭🌙

    Dumb question: Do you have to use Polaris to align your telescope, or can you use a compass and just find north? (this is not for photography)

    • @GarnettLeary
      @GarnettLeary 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Compass gets you magnetic north and is not true north. The two vary more or less depending on your location.
