Planting the Galatasaray flag at Fenerbahce | Graeme Souness on his time in Turkey.

- In June 1996, Graeme Souness was named Galatasaray manager.
During his year in Istanbul, he won the Turkish Cup & Turkish Super Cup.
The biggest moment of his time in Turkey came when he planted the Galatasaray flag in the middle of Fenerbahce's pitch after Gala beat them in the Turkish Final.
He explains the reasons behind it here, and his love for the city of Istanbul.
He planted that flag to make a point and that point is "pogba needs to do more"
haha he's not wrong
Ha ha clinker guy🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😃🤣
Pogba always will need to do more. The most inconsistent player ever
@@Gurb-cr3wl Graeme, is that u?
@@mr.talldarkandhandsome4111 yes its me. and if only people got out of a fairytale world and saw the inconsistent Pogba they'd understand. 4 assists and watch rest of the season when he languishes about on the pitch
As a Galatasaray fan, that scene is one of the unforgettable memories of my childhood. Thanks 'Ulubatlı Souness'
what does Ulubatlı mean in English?
@@ariestiger12 Its the name of a great Turkish hero that raised the flag of victory over captured constantinople im 1453
@@ariestiger12 In 1453, during the conquest of Istanbul, the name of the first person to plant the Turkish flag on the Byzantine walls... Ulubatlı Hasan.

Souness had balls of steel. How he ever managed to get out of there alive is a miracle. Especially in the 90's
He's Scottish 😅😅😅, loyal to the cause....👊👊👊
That why the uk won ww1 and ww1 😅😅😅 weir all the same...whatever it takes...at whatever cost😅😅😅,for whatever cause😂😂😂,Scottish, English, Welsh, Northern Irish 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧and galatasrish 😂😂😂❤
Ww2....duh😂😂....except for that tussle in gallipoli was it in ww1🙄that didn't go to well😮😮😮
He played football at the highest level in the 70s/80s. The era of football, when fans could genuinely run on and pitch and attack you. He’s always been solid.
True.

Haha, perfect comment. XD

@kbooax wat?
😂😂
I feel like Souness was born for the cauldron of fire and machismo that is Turkish football.
What a legend.
This is an iconic Galatasaray moment. Just like the championship 2012 at Fener Stadium when they shut down the lights so the players had to celebrate in the dark and the media couldn't take photos.
Just like when the players defended the ali sami yen pitch in 2007 after a loss so a Fener player couldn't do the same. Shambolic
Just like FC PORTO, champions in 2010/2011 at SL Benfica stadium, they turned the lights off and the water system for the pitch, Porto celebrated in the dark and wet of the stadium.
@@franciscomarques5155 the exact same situation at Fener Gala back in 2012 :D

Planting the flag and shouting Pogba is sh*t
Omg that really caught me off guard. Laughed pretty hard there
😂😂😂😂😂
I’d find a bit of pace from somewhere if I had 30,000 Fenerbahce fans after me

Might be, but still: balls of steel!

Legend: Ulubatlı Souness
Mr Souness is a living legend.
As a young boy I lived in the south side of Glasgow in a town where Kenny Dalglish owned a pub.
He had just made his legendary move from Glasgow Celtic to Liverpool.
I took my dog for a walk and popped into the chip shop a couple of doors away from Mr Dalglish's pub only to be confronted with Kenny Dalglish, Greame Souness, Alan Hanson and Sammy Lee waiting in the chip shop for fish suppers.
We will always love you Master Sounness
Souness, Friedel and Tugay, Blackburn Rovers and Galatasaray legends.

One Magnificent Bastard Mr.Souness. 💙
Souness in his thirties: Kicks the shit out of opponents, points guns, plants flags to incite riots.
Souness in his sixties: "Where has all the respect and civility gone?"
Souness running towards a flare jeez thought they were dangerous killing machines
Gala LEGEND!!
I'm a Gala fan. Foreigners who well adapt to football here are deer in our hearts. No matter what club. Alex, Gomez, Drogba are some recent ones who are admired by all regardless colors. Souness is a different story.😂
If you look closely the flag has "Pogba needs to do more" written on it.
Classy as always 🙈🙈🙈

One thing I agree with him. Istanbul is the greatest city on earth.
Lol. Its not.
@Artie Lange no I mean The great City Of Istanbul. I don’t know this name, and I never heard of it, is that some alcoholic persons name.
Long live the legend!
He seems like a nice man.
what was you thinking there ?.."it wasn't the cleverest thing I have ever done" 😅🤣😂
I remember this. Unbelievable....almost sparked a riot. Was a good, but fucking mean, player. Now as a pundit he acts like an affable grandad and that butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, but he was a nutter, lol!

don't worry. we will never forget such people. one of our crazy top boys planted a Fenerbahce flag in galatasaray;stadium after this. He actually hid in the stadium for days just for that.
He planted that flag as if he’d just captured an imperial eagle from the French lol

Later on he was nicknamed 'Ulubatlı Souness' taking that nickname from an Ottoman Soldier named ''Ulubatlı Hasan'' he died after planting the first Ottoman banner on the Theodisian Walls during the last day of the Siege of Constantinople.
Thanks, I was trying to find out why he had that nickname and where it came from.
Named after him
