@@ROF_85 That hat I wear is actually only one of two ever made. My brother made a pair and gave me one. Later Nike stopped making that "Fit" or whatever they call it which sucks because I'd love to update it and we get a TON of requests! It's my favorite hat ever and one of the only ones that fits my weird shaped nugget nicely
We do have hats we source from a local family owned embroidery shop, but their supply has been short so we have had to reserve them for Haylett clients for the time being. Normally I'd just have one fired out to you! :)

Regular Montana is better built and that's why it weighs more, high country is OK but they fall apart pretty quickly because they're built with cheaper materials.
The condition of even older used Montanas, High Countries, and even the older Mountaineers indicates otherwise. Structurally they do fantastically. There's nearly no variance in build between the two montanas.

Big Sky is still there, but not by that name specifically.
Montana used to have 4 sub-categories: Mountaineer, High Country, Hickory, and Big Sky
* Mountaineer & High Country were merged into what's now just "Montana High Country"
* Hickory and Big Sky were merged into what's now just called "Montana."
Most of what defined Big Sky is standard with the ability to add the Legacy Package to take it Above and Beyond

High country also has the better Floorplans for families. Such as the 376/377 FL. Few more bunkhouse models
Oh absolutely. "Montana" will likely never have a "True bunkhouse" - a middle "bonus room" at best
High Country is where they keep their family models
Basically, High Country = XLT. Full Montana = Lariat (or King Ranch) :) Retirement = Montana. Weekend traveler = High Country. But, main thing, as you say, it is all in what one wants. And I want a High Country.

Thanks, Josh, I enjoy your videos. You typically do a great job of explaining well whatever topic you're on. I do feel that you danced around this one a bit. I know you are focused on holding up the value of the HC vs the "Luxury" Montana, and rightly so. We own a 2018 305RL High Country and are really enjoying it. But I know that there are some key structural differences that you didn't address that definitely adds to the weight differential between the 2 lines. The 12" I-Beam frame in the Luxury vs the 10 I-Beam frame in the HC is a big weight difference and a strength difference. The floors are more stout in the Luxury, especially in the slides. The amount of flex in the dining slide in our HC is one thing that is problematic for me. That said, I think you are absolutely correct in the overall form and function between the 2 lines. We knew the differences when we bought our HC and didn't see the need to spend the extra $15,000 for the Luxury model.

Hmm.. dancing around something wasn't my goal, but now and then whether it's from lack of sleep or just general distractions I may have a hard time "zeroing in" on the task at hand and disconnecting a bit. re-watching this a bit I sorta feel like that was happening now and then. Perhaps that's what you're picking up upon

@@JoshtheRVNerd Thanks for responding, I know you're busy. I'm not trying to be critical and I appreciate and enjoy the work you do. But as an HC owner I wanted to point out that the differences between these 2 lines, in my opinion, go beyond cosmetics and features. While it's important to know those things when researching what to buy I found it important to understand that there is a core difference in the underlying strength of the build with the lighter frame and floors. Whether those differences will have an impact on the durability or longevity of our HC remains to be seen. Since one of the tenets of the HC vs the "Luxury" is to make it lighter it makes sense and I knew those differences before buying. I'm sure that not everyone wants or needs to know all of the nitty gritty differences when researching to buy but, for me, it was important to know. Thanks again for taking the time to read comments like this.

Great review Josh. We now own a 2020 3120RL which we purchased in May. We love it so far. We have had a couple of warranty issues but Keystone has worked with us. It is my understanding that the kitchen counter is solid surface. Is the bathroom counter solid surface or sticker? I wipe out our sinks after use and am concerned that if the bathroom is a sticker it will no longer stick if I wear off the caulk bead around the edge.
I love your videos. My daughter now lives in Michigan and you can be certain we will contact Haylett for our next unit. We own a site in Florida where we winter. We change units every 1 to 5 years.
Bath counter is a sealed thermofoil (aka formica topped basically)

Great video. I thought only the Legacy package has solid wood cabinets.
Until very recently that was accurate. That feature was rolled from Legacy to all "Big Monty" units

I was really surprised to see that only the Full “Luxury” Montana has “all” solid wood cabinets instead of some particleboard. What Jayco, Wildwood, and other models that you carry have “all” solid wood cabinets?

Nearly no towable RVs use stained hardwood cabinet stiles and rails (aka the "box" of the cabinet). Plenty of RVs like Cougar, Eagle, North Point, & High Country (among others) use full lumbercore cabinets
So High Country uses what I call "Better Still" cabinets from that video link while Montana uses "Best" styling.

I understand having the different trim levels but I think it’s odd that you can’t pick both the floor plan and the trim level. You’re basically stuck with the trim level that is offered based on the floor plan you’re interested in. I’m just surprised that a manufacturer hasn’t taken that approach yet.

We were told by an rv repairman that if we live full-time in a 5th wheel, we should get a Montana especially if we're in Colorado. I like floor plans for the Montana high country, and the Montana, and we like the cougar, but we have to decide what fits our budget. Which is the best for living in winter?

Yes. The structural stuff is the same. It's just the "fancy factor" that changes between them

Even "Ultralite" has no real definition. It's a relative phrase.
We will hopefully be 5th wheel owners in the near future. We started looking a few weeks ago, absolutely no hurry which is good. We have read good things about the Montana brand, just had not been able to see one. The extent of our looking had been Jayco North Point and Pinnacle, both very nice. Pinnacle is our favorite so far. Today we got a chance to look at numerous Montana and high country models at a Camping World, no less. I have to say we were both disappointed, I would not compare the North Point VS High Country, and definitely not the Pinnacle and Montana. Two of the Montana models had spots in the floor that was soft, as in a little give!! The overall feel inside was not necessarily cheap but not custom. Cabinets opening and closing, materials etc. The execution was missing in my opinion. One model already had a tire blowout from delivery, salesman said they all put cheap tires on them!! Not! Jayco certainly doesn't. Again, Jayco's water system already has the filters built in, separate fresh water drinking system. The power reel, location and execution of the hookups, Generator prep, battery location, solar prep, all execution that Jayco seems to do much better. My wife would have walked out of the Jayco dealer with one during our first visit, except I wouldn't pay for a 12K paint job. Although we are new at this land yachting we come from the water yachting world, what you would call a class A with twin Cat Diesels Generator, etc., so we are familiar with how it all works, as in power, hoses, and all the extra goodies we spend so much money on. My bride likes to put eyes on the real thing and not the brochure, and she was surprised at what she perceived to be nothing like what the brochures looked like. We are looking for a Grand Designs now to look at. They seem to be well liked as well. Sorry Josh, Montana is definitely not for us.

Is there a subflooring and/or insulation difference?
Their floor constructions vary as mentioned in the video (Laminated on High Country & Constructed on Big Monty). Beyond that R-Values and treatments are the same.
Even things like CNC Routed sidewalls for enhanced precision -- forgot to mention that when recording!
After watching your 2022 Montana 3121 video, I was confused on this very topic, coming from a 2021 Cougar Half Ton 30RLS myself.... I didn't look at the Montana's last year because of the cost. But now...... (thanks Josh!! lol) I already think I want the new Montana 3121 based on a few more features etc.... which you point out and I don't want to exceed 35' for greater campsite flexibility!! Btw.... the BOSS is going to want to shoot me!! lol I can see the higher end quality and I'd like it to be my "last one"! As I've stated before.... you are clearly the best in the industry doing these review's, you really have taught me quite a bit, thank you Sir!! Do either or both have dual heat pumps or are they optional on either or both? I really like them both.
Both types of Montanas have the 16.5k heat pump on the main A/C

Sidewall construction and finishes, and differences between high country and lux Montana? Are both gel coat?
For clarity: *All* fiberglass in the RV business has a gel coating. Not trying to be nit-picky -- making sure I'm answering the correct question here :)

Maybe they have changed since I bought my Montana in 2015, but back then the Montana had a very smooth wall exterior where the High County did not. In comparison the High County appeared somewhat wavy and the Montana was very smooth and flat. I was told that the Montana used two layers of the Luan wood material versus only one on the High County. The smooth wall really makes a big difference visually.

*COUGAR:* Lighter, Less Expensive, Combo W/D prep, iN*Command
*MHC:* Drop Frame Bigger Storage, Taller Bedroom for Stackable W/D Prep, Ceiling Fan, A/C Heat Pump, Power Theater Seating, possibly Bigger Fridge by models
They're definitely related, but each has enough of a unique identity to separate them
