  • Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

    I'm having an issue with TH-cam comments. I go to approve the comment and when I go to answer it's gone. Someone mentioned NeverSayCutz knows how to cut a black guys hair correct. I agree. It cost a little more, but it's a good shop. I would also check out some shops near the US Embassy. Many of those US Marines get a haircut every week. There might be some talented barbers at a discount price. Who wants to pay 500b once a week. But, you have to look sharp on embassy duty.

      don't get me started w/the wonkyness of yt > often times I'm unable to simply edit my comments forcing me to copy/paste + delete & add the corrected version > & then there's the issue of who is calculating the metrics to figure out Creator paychecks > always hear Creators complain how the checks are not consistent...always fluctuating, etc > see wolf guarding the hen house > then there's the over the top censorship issue...but I'm not gonna even go there... but I am gonna go to Thailand soon 😏

    Last yr I stayed almost 2 weeks at the Mercure Atrium which is not far from Jodd Fairs on Petchiburi > nice accomodation...on the pricey side so it's expected to be nice > found Jodd Fairs to also be on the pricey side compared to other Night Markets > very touristy it seemed when I went...few locals anyway.. except those working of course.
    Chon from Friends of Thailand yt recently featured The Black Market (funny name)...approx 30 mins on BTS from Sukhumvit Central/Asok area > now that Market definitely seems like more of a Locals Market where prices are more inline with local price points > hope to make it over to The Black Market in July/Aug.
    Thanks Joe for all the boots on the ground efforts 🙏

    G'day Joe, thanks for sharing another interesting tour. A couple of quick off topic questions you may be able to help me with... Do you use Wise and if so can you access local currency with no access fees? Ive set up Wise to use when I move to Bangkok later this year, but I'm stilll undecided on which Thai bank to bank with, mainly becuase I want to avoid making the usual rookie mistakes. Any advice is much appreciated.

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've used Wise and bank transfers from my US bank. Opening an account is becoming a challenge these days. Go back and watch my Tips playlist. I talk often about opening an account and getting a visa.
      Wise comes with a fee when you transfer to the Thai account. I believe I just moved $15,000 US and it was $140. Fees to move the money over is just a cost of living in Thailand.
      We all make rookie mistakes. At least your trying to do your research. You'll be fine. I can't send a link to a playlist, but it's easy to find. th-cam.com/video/tHm5IGTl4Hw/w-d-xo.html

      @@EagerExpat Thanks Joe, picking your brains is worthy of a beer or three so I hope to repays you later this year :) The favourable exchange rate and additional convenience puts Wise ahead for me, maybe that assessment will changhe when Im living in Bangkok, we shall see. I'll check out your previous tips... hate not knowing what I dont know. Go well

    • @EagerExpat

      @@PaulJagger Ya I even put out a video that I didn't always like Wise. I'm changing my mind lately. Wise might be 36.5/1 (365,000b) or Navy Federal 36.2 (362,000) Wise is 3000b better ($80) but cost $100. Navy cost $25 flat fee, but you lose $80. So it's all kind of a wash.
      The trouble with Navy (and others) is you don't know what you get until it arrives. You can set an alarm with Wise. When it's 37/1 make a move. If you see that 37/1 at Wise and make a Navy Credit Union transfer, it's probably 36.9 that day. But, what goes up will go down. Wise might be 36.9 in two days. So Navy will be 36.7. So now you went from 37/1 to 36.7 if you use Navy, because it took two days. I guess it could go up in two days. But more often there are peaks and valleys. It's not worth losing sleep over. Even with the higher fee, I'd say most people love Wise. I'm becoming a convert.

    • @PaulJagger
      @PaulJagger 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EagerExpat good to know cheers Joe. I watched one of your earlier videos today about setting up a bank accout and I'm curious to know if you pay a fee when you draw cash on your wise card. I'm sure I read somewhere that you can avoid atm fees to access the local currency you loaded on your Wise card if you do it in the bank and not the banks ATM... is that your experience. Like you, I dont have an issue in paying a fee to transfer currency, but it can get a bit sore when you get hit every time you want to access your cash!

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PaulJagger I never got the Wise card. I just transfer from Navy Federal to Wise (2 days on large amounts, maybe $1000 or more?) I have sent $10,000 once and $15,000 another time. Most guys send maybe a pension check each month. I strike when the baht is high.
      Then it goes to Bangkok Bank in another 3 days. I'm sure they charge something to use a Wise card in a foreign bank. Even with a Bangkok Bank ATM card, I get charged (very small 10b?) if I use an ATM machine (even a Bangkok Bank ATM) that isn't my home office ATM. I think I still do. I saw the fee a few times. I'm not really worried about 30 cents.
      The reason guys keep money in the Wise account (I think) is to have immediate transfers to baht, yen, whatever. I think you can use the Wise Visa at places that take Visa without a fee. But stand by on that. Many small places will charge you the merchant of 3%, that they get charged. Money transfers might cost me $300 a year? I save that in 2 weeks of rent So it's not much to worry about. But, there ain't no thing as a free lunch. Or money transfer.
      I forget your situation, but if you want a retirement visa, you'll need a Thai account. So just get the money in that account and use your phone to pay for everything. That's free. You will have a fee to get the money into the Thai account. You'll have to decide if it's Wise (high fee, best rate) or a flat rate like Navy Federal ($25 fee, worse exchange) Just be careful who you bank with. I've seen reports that Wells Fargo will shut you down if they think you live permanently abroad. Even if you have a US address. They don't like to see transfers to Bangkok every month. I use a Chase Visa everyday in Thailand. No problems after two years. Navy has said they don't care. I can even use a Thai address. I don't but I could.
