The greatest thing about Haikyuu is that there are no villains. There are rivalries, but you find yourself cheering for almost every team you see at some point. There is an extra scene at the end of the S2 compilation movie where all of the Aoba Josei 3rd years meet at the gym after their loss and play a last time together. You cant help but cry at the end. This story is special.
There was a separate interview between the author and the editor about the "no villains" thing. Furudate said that they simply could not afford to do it in a volleyball manga, since villains would need their own good development/setup, and they wanted the focus to be on volleyball, so mixing that in could make things really confusing and all over the place; plus they also had a feeling it wouldn't work well with a realistic volleyball story anyway. The editor said that it might be the influence of Furudate themselves, since they're a very good person with solid morals, and that gets reflected in their characters.
this very same reason is why i got sooo offended when people put kuroko and blue lock on the same level. They’re nice and entertaining, yes, but the same level with haikyuu? waayyyy off 🥲

I mean I commend it for doing something new instead of the usual 'teamwork makes dreamwork' formula and it's a really great show too but Haikyuu is a way better sports anime imo. My biggest problem with Blue Lock has to be that some of the dialogues and scenes can get a bit cringe something I never felt watching Haikyuu.

I started playing volleyball because of Haikyuu and after 3 months or so there was a game where i did exactly what hinata did where the setter missed the ball a little then i went for it with my right hand and missed and lobbed it over with my left hand after. exactly like in the scene and it felt so epic!!! I know you haven't been able to watch the haikyuu movie (the continuation of the story btw) that came out of japan because your in the states, but as a long time haikyuu manga reader and anime enjoyed they fucking delivered. Obviously they had to cut some things out because of the run time of a movie vs a season, but that movie perfectly sums up why people love haikyuu so much. I even brought a friend who didnt watch any of the other seasons and proceeded to tear up near the end and began his haikyuu journey last week. When it comes to the states I cant wait to watch you and everyone else's reaction because it is fantastic.

As someone who plays volleyball growing up and currently. I FEEL the same emotions that Haikyuu displays. Even the some of the smallest details LIKE "that moment you're hooked on volleyball" that hit me SOOO hard when Bokuto put it into words!

As someone who also played volleyball, I experienced first hand what Hinata mentioned about "seeing the blockers clearly and the other side of the court" before. I wasnt able to spike the ball straight to the ground but what I did was aim for the fingertips of the blockers
Call me exaggerating but haikyuu helped me get to know the sport more and even get better at it. The way it was written so realistically really inspired me to become a better player and completely love the sport til this day 💯

I really like how sensei (the author of the manga&anime) named the team. Makes me learn some vocab. Like Karasuno from Karasu, means Crow. Shiratorizawa from Shiratori, means white eagle. Aoba johsai means the new green leaf. Fukurodani from Fukuro, means Owl. Nekoma from Neko, means Cat. And also the author also symbolizing the characters and team like the name of the school. There are also some OVA (Original Video Animated) in season2.
