ive changed the struts on my 2011 dodge durango. because the previous owners had driven it with blown shocks. when i go over bumps it feels like the shocks bottom out on the fornt end and i get this loid bang. but only when i go over bymps i wonder if the springs have collapsed. also it has vibrations on the frontend like if it had bent wheel or bad tire but tires are new and bene balanced aswell

Very interesting and helpful information. Also can cause damage to the suspension parts?

Is it normal to have some difference when it comes to the wheel-to-fender gap? I have a 2017 Honda HR-V that I use as my daily and that I recently had suspension parts replaced (including tie rod ends, rack ends, lower control arms and ball joints, shock absorbers) and I only just noticed (after 7 years lol, not really sure if this was a problem before) that the left side has a shorter wheel-to-fender gap compared to the right side. The difference at the front is around 1/4 inch or 6.35 mm and the rear is around 1/8 inch or 3.175 mm from my measurements. For the record, the car rides relatively fine after the replacements.

Same here with my Civic, the driver side seems bit lower like 1/4 inch gap between wheel and fender. When I sit and observe the car from outside in the front, I can see a light tilt. Yesterday, I jacked my car up from drivers side and left it for 4-5 minutes, and when I lowered it the gap became even. I havent driven yet but will see if that has solved the issue, try this trick and see if works, and report back.

I have coilovers and have changed almost every front end suspension component aside from the springs. I have a very loud clanking noise that happens over bumps etc and before throwing a new part at the situation is there anyway I can confirm it's the springs? They looks to be in good condition but would I be able to tell from looking at it?

@@Dnasty1 Ive just ordered new shocks and springs from American muscle for my mustang. They recommended, an adjustable damper shock, and paired up with my lower springs which is progressive spring rate, it will help go through uneven road potholes. Of course, more expensive, but I rather pay that extra upfront cost for that comfortable ride. Paired with my semi new tires, I cant wait for the new ride

Should I replace entire struts or just springs?

If it's a Strut assembly, replace the whole thing

I replace my shocks and struts and whenever I’m driving over a speed bump there’s a squeaky noise coming from the rear end, can that be the coil springs?

wtf, thought it was only me. Ordered new shocks and hopefully it is gone. Its, been 3 years since ive hold off to the contemplation, but the ride got worse and rougher and bumpier. So im assuming a shock problem that bottoms out. Im just lazy to go under the car, until it is repair time, thats when I inspect everything
