Matt, you can absolutely have a buzzbait run perfectly straight. Or to which ever side you want it to run. You just have to tune it by pushing the arm that holds the blade to either side of the hook. (left or right) Sometimes I want it to run left, other times right, but most of the time I want it to run straight and I will use my rod to guide it to where I want it to go as I reel it in.
you can mess with it some but generally i find that makes the buzzbait roll on a side. But i dont want it to run straight. id rather have the bait run into an object for me. generates a lot more strikes for me.
Thanks for setting him straight. You're right, you can bend the blade arm to make it run however you want and certainly can use your rod to also control the running angle. Successful fishing is hard enough without the b.s. videos.
Dave's tournament tackle sells the 'Counter Buzz'. it has a smaller blade inside the main blade that rotates the opposite way. It's basically a single buzz but it runs true.
This is a great video. I can't tell you how many times I've switched out trailers and bent the arm trying to figure this one out. I fish lots of mossy ponds and wanted to run as close as I could without dragging grass. This definitely helps.
Thanks for the info, Matt. This is something that i didn't consider in regards to the side of the creek i fish regularly. Depending on the side of the bank I'm on i need to have a different bait tied on to get the same presentation. Thanks for the insight.
Matt thank you so much for making this video I don't know why no one else has said this about buzz Bates going one way or the other and why they do that but you were the chosen one 😂 to be honest it's quite obvious now that I think about it lol
@@MattStefanFishing hey I value quality content and I don't like to waste my time as I'm sure others are the same way so I really appreciate a content creator that consistently puts out true teaching and instructional videos. This is just my opinion but I feel that a lot of people on TH-cam doesn't matter what sport or field they're in they forget kind of where they came from and they take for granted some stuff they learned and assume that others already know it too. For instance I thought the videos you put out about bluegill, goby's, and other types of fish and how they relate to bass we're very refreshing and actually filled with great information that helps more than just being told some lures to fish you know. Anyway sorry for being a long-winded have a good day God bless happy fourth
I usually that pulling to my advantage for the current in the river I fish for smallmouth bass. I have also used them across banks in a lagoon I've never had this issuse.
My day isn’t complete if I haven’t learned something, and I always learn something new from Matt. Would a buzzbait with counter rotating inline wings be redundant? Hey, do they have fire restrictions there like here? I set up a laptop in front of lawn chairs. I put on a video of fireworks and played Souza marches.
thats a good question. i would think that counterrotating blades on a single arm might make the bait run true...might also limit water flow to the back blade preventing it from spinning. you should give it a try! No fire restrictions here. rained a bunch this weekend
Matt thanks for the video very helpful. I did have a question for you. In the past I was watching one of your videos and you were talking about a small buss bait that one of your co anglers was using that was generating more bites. Can you send me that video please. Thanks keep up the good videos and hope to hear back from you soon Randy
Holy sh*t, I have been doing this right! Lol, single blade only for me crushing into all the structure! Smallmouth feel like tanks no matter the size on a buzzbait! If your not fishing a buzzbait when the bait fish are popping out of the water, your missing out!
Thanks, Matt, for this video when i first got a buzz bait i destroyed it trying to get it to run straight. Aleo I'm npt very good on my laptop but i can't find the link to Tackle Warehouse. can I use a laptop?
yes you can . Just click this link to Tackle Warehouse and youlld be all set. Nothing more you need to do. Thanks for the support. www.tacklewarehouse.com/?from=MSFG
Thanks! I generally do not use plastic bladed buzzbaits because they dont make as much sound. TZhe ones i have used have clackers on them to make some noise.
Great video!!!👊🏻 But one thing, how do I know which way the blade is going to go? Clockwise or counterclockwise and which one goes right/left. Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
Great stuff Matt. Good idea to have 2 rods ready. Kinda off topic, but do you notice any difference using braid for dropshot? I use a swivel for line twist.
Common sense prevails! Thx Matt! I went to your TW link and it didn't mention different direction spin models. Is this something you need to tweak yourself?
What Matt is talking about is called 'torque', and it's the same reason a helicopter needs a rear rotor to counter act this force. We can easily compute this with the simple mathematical formula T = r × F, where T is total torque, r is rotational vector (the distance from center of mass), and F is force. As you can see, however, the more force that you apply, the more torque that is generated. In simple terms this means that the harder you crank your buzzbait, the more torque it's gonna have and the more it will drift one way or the other.. Not that I can catch a fish with one, but hey, at least I can do the math! Math/Engineering degree for the win!
@@LowBrowFishing You’re my hero! From the math, I also see that the wider the prop, the greater the pull. Do they make buzzbaits with INLINE counterrotation?
Good info Matt. Q: I have a couple of Revenge buzz baits that I really like. They lean though when I use any type of trailer, without and they run true north/ south. Are some buzzers just not good with trailers? Thx
some buzzers are tested with the trailers and others arent. if they werent tested with trailers they may not be weighted properly. Ive run into the same problem over the years. thats why i like buzzbaits like the dirty jigs pro buzz. they are meant to be used with a trailer and weighted well because of it.
I have a couple of buzz baits that the skirts holder isn't round, it like a little wing with a round place for the skirt holder. It not level when I am looking at it straight down from the line tie to the hook. It more in the 10 and 5 position, not 9 and 3 on the wire. Will the buzz baits run off centered from straight up and down through the water
SMH cannot believe I have never heard this before. It seems so simple yet it is SO important. WOW just WOW. Alas now I have to go through my box of buzz baits and probably order some more. My wife is not going to be happy. LOL
Do you ever use small buzz baits? I’m just up the river from you and I know smallies like buzz baits but I feel like most of them are too big for smallies. Any suggestions?
i like the 1/8 oz size for postspawn fish but i dont have any problem with smallmouth on the river eating a full size buzzbait. try the dirty jigs pro buzz 1/4 oz. with the head sliding into the trailer it makes for a more compact presentation.
Since I'm still trying to figure out bass fishing I have a question, what is the difference between a buzz bait and a spinner bait? And which is better more often?
buzzbait is to be retrieved as a surface bait and the spinnerbait is to be retrieved under the surface. a spinnerbait is genrally easier to use and can be used successfully in more situations throughout the year.
You'd think the manufacturer would label these, the same as they do they weights. Right hand tracking vs left hand tracking. I mean, it just promotes you buying one of each right? Upsales!
Everyone says that about buzzbait hitting things and today I killed them and caught about 40 quality bass and all of them where away from bank no weeds around in 8 feet water I don’t understand and monster hits and a few I thought hit was weeds slowing it down and those where the biggest just sucked about 6 feet from boat 2 7s
Excellent tip on having two buzz bait rods with the different rotations. Thanks.

How do you keep them from laying on their sides?
Idk
it's probably on the side cause you are reeling to slow or your trailer isn't the right size
your trailer is probably not mounted straight. or you are reeling to quickly causing it to role...or your buzzbait isnt weighted properly
