    I"m a female, and have used handguns, but not rifles. I have never hunted, although my dad did. We are now at a point in our neighborhood of 1.5 acre lots that it's time to hunt coyotes who have really moved in (there's a large parcel of 20+ acres behind us). This information is really helpful for myself and my husband (who has hunted, but not coyotes) to get ready for coyote killing. Thank you!

      You also need to check your county guidlines.there maybe be a bounty you can collect and there also maybe a certain amount of acreage (depending on the county/community your in)where you have to have so much land to fire gund.Good hunting!

      Some states,like Texas, have a trespass by bullet law. This is especially important to know if you're on 1.5 acres. I had a house on 1 acre with a 1000 acre ranch behind me. I got the land owners permission to shoot in that direction just in case a bullet passed through or I missed and crossed his property line. You might also look into higher power air rifles. They are quiet and effective.

    I like to use raodrunners as bait :) no, seriously.... I live in the Skagit river valley in N.W. Washington. I drive down the dirt roads in the woods along the river, I just pick a random stand, kick back and listen to music in my headphones. I've been doing it for years and I rarely have a day in a stand that I don't get at least one coyote within 4 hours. They just trot down the road and I have NEVER seen one looking around up in the trees. Some times, but rarely I use a call, but mostly just chill on some tunes, a ball game or TH-cam. Every other fall the pink salmon spawn in the river and the carcasses litter the banks as they die off, smells awful! but it brings the coyotes!

    I live about 1/8 mile from a hill range that has a very long logging road going up, I love to hike it during the day, is an excellent aerobic workout, I currently have 3 dogs, 1 large rough collie, who couldn't hurt a flea, & 2 little cavalier king charles spaniels (ea weighs a whopping 16 lbs) & this breed is all love ... once it gets dark out, the coyotes are howling & yipping for hours, sometimes they sound so close ... they've never bothered me on my hikes, but it's always in the back of my mind, on my small acreage, have 2 horses, & a handful of chickens too, I've read so many horror stories of ppl losing their dogs to coyotes, so my question is, do they not hunt during the daytime hours? Will they ever try to attack us? As I'm getting older/stiffer, wondering if it's safe to keep hiking up this hillside?

    Just about any "tip" is a good tip if it works. Yesterday, just for the fun of it, I set up my electronic call behind my house. It was chilly and I didn't want to bundle up and go to my blind, so I pulled my SUV out next to my carport and sat there with the motor running looking out the driver's side window. I used a coyote challenge call and within 15 min. I had an easy broadside shot at a young male. I wonder if I should make a video on how to hunt from your vehicle.

So, being 1/4 mile from the road, on my own property, hunting my own land, I think I am legal whether I am in my vehicle, or standing on my porch.

      I sure hope that you checked the hunting regulations in your area.
      Some states (assuming that you are in the USA) don't allow night hunting of coyotes; or don't allow the use of night vision; or only allow night vision type equipment during a certain time period.
      Just because you might be able to purchase the equipment in your area or state, doesn't always mean that it is legal to use for certain things.
      Example: In my home state of Kansas, you can hunt coyotes all year.
      However during the majority of the year, any night vision, or any artificial light source, are illegal to use.
      The state finally created a specific season for those types of equipment to be used.
      Similar to trapping. Trapping coyotes is only allowed during a certain season.
      I'm not trying to tell you what you can/cannot do.
      I'm simply stating that I don't want you to get fined or arrested.
      I wish you success.

    • @kitsunekierein7253
      @kitsunekierein7253 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My biggest thing is that they are too smart to actually give battle, and I'm too smart to let them get the drop on me, so the standoffs are only ever just that. The one time a few years ago when they did get the drop on me, I ended up having to bury my knife in the neck of the lead coyote and scored a single non-fat blow to the second one, but the knife got stuck in that one and I had to follow the blood trail to get the knife back. A huntsman knife, if you care to know. The teeth on the back end got caught up on one of the lower ribs. My stand made them far more cautious in my woods. They know better now. 😂
      I was just wondering what sort of tricks I could use to instigate such a conflict again. What bait food might lure them? What sounds can I make to attract them to me? That sort of thing is what I am asking here. I figured hunters would be the perfect people to ask this.

    Don’t coyotes have any predators? How has their population become so out of control? I never remember there being so many coyotes when I was growing up decades ago.

    • @thehomiehandler2435
      @thehomiehandler2435 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So they do actually have predators. The issue is, Coyotes live all over north America. A wolf might eat a coyote in Yellowstone for example but there aren't any wolves in a state like Kentucky anymore. It depends on the area basically. Coyotes can thrive just about anywhere.

      @@thehomiehandler2435 What I’d like to know is how is it so easy for coyotes to thrive anywhere, whereas wolves for some reason can’t.

    • @thehomiehandler2435
      @thehomiehandler2435 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Northern-BC-Life They technically can but won't. Their main prey are deer, elk, moose, etc. They will eat smaller game but don't prefer it.
      So basically a coyote who will scavenge anything can be happy anywhere while a wolf will tend to follow its main food source. When wolves move in though, Coyotes back off. Wolves don't tolerate any competition.

    • @ShikokuFoodForest
      @ShikokuFoodForest ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thehomiehandler2435 I see, thanks. My impression is coyotes mainly eat smaller game and leave the deer, elk and moose for the wolves. I’m just motivated to learn now since I’ll be moving from a subtropical climate in Japan 🇯🇵 that has virtually no predators to a subarctic climate in northern BC CANADA 🇨🇦 likely next year. I’ve heard there are bear, fox, deer, moose, coyotes, lynx, mountain lion... not sure about wolves (there are some here and there, but my impression is they are more nomadic). As you say, I guess they follow their prey.

    False numbers how do you know that ? That they can come back in a year?

    • @CoyoteCountryTV
      @CoyoteCountryTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It's a know fact that coyotes will reproduce pups to the same number of coyotes that an area can support each breeding cycle. For example, if you have 12 coyotes in an area at the beginning and kill of 8 of them and there is at least 1 breeding pair they will biologically know that 8 pups can be supported by the area they are in. A female coyote can have up to 10 pups in a litter based on the food source available.

      They are a lot like feral hogs. In order to maintain the current hog population of 6million in the U.S. 60%-75% of the population would have to be killed yearly. That number comes from department of agriculture and wildlife management.

    22 mag rifle 70 yards shoot coyote in the spine and hip area, don't shoot to kill.
    This makes the coyote scream like hell in coyote language and just wait for the rest of them to come and investigate what's going on.
    Then do the rest of them the same way.
    That's the best coyote call you can have without spending a penny.
    March the 1st is best time because the weened pups don't know what a human is I've had them practically running over me when they investigate what's happening to parents.
