    It's not okay to have someone else sight in your rifle....and taking a rifle that you haven't even sighted in yourself to shoot game. Lol I agree with everything else.

    The awesome video and definitely good advice! I have sat down and began calling with my rifle on my lap. I will add that helps to be with a second Hunter because calling and trying to shoot. I get overwhelmed and Miss as many as I get!

    I believe alot is wrong with someone else sighting in your rifle and using one you are not familiar with. Trigger pull and ensuring correct fit, especially comb can really throw you off. Not being familiar many people have a habit of not following through or staying in the scope with a rifle they are not familiar with. Great tips!!! Would like to get into setting up on some coyotes. Just not really familiar with this prey.

    Learn to STAY STILL! And you must be comfortable to do this 1.) take a closed cell foam sit pad 2.) use shootings sticks and keep your rifle's forearm ON them 3.) Use binoculars s-l-o-w-l-y if the is no movement by 20 minutes. 4.) wear a small daypack with a HYDRATION bladder and hose (to keep movement minimal when drinking) 5.) Try wearing HECK's underwear and head cover (to mask your body's "electronic" signature

    Put scent around your set and call, see Murray's Lures. Mixed about decoys as they come in too hard and fast, good camo, minimum movement if the coyote is stationary no ridge lining.

    I would say you have done a good job in general covering some of the dont's , I would add on very very important don't DON't SHOOT at a coyote that you don't have a good shot on and DON'T SHOOT until he is out of site !!!!!! The odds of hitting even the second shot is to low, you should not train or condition the animal to be call shy !!!!! Keep up the good work !!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the 2 different videos on this subject. It has been a lot of help planning my first sit. I have seen Coyotes on my property and just today found some scat right beside my Chicken coup. I am gonna try to call them in but what is the best time of day? I havent seen them very often in the day time.

    • @InformedOutdoors
      @InformedOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say early morning or evening would probably be your best bet. If you have a camera try to get that out next to your coop and see when they come in. If I had to guess they would be there at night. Are you in a state that allows hunting for coyotes at night?

  • @rw7594

    I was on a coyote patrol today. Didn't see one. When I was deer hunting on that property I saw several. Owner saw a couple during daylight hours this week's so a friend and I went for the day.
    Didn't help that the 2nd property to the north had two dead cows not cleaned up yet. Heard a few 30 cal shots go off in the afternoon. I at least hoped to see some run my way. Nope!
    Damn things would walk across the open field in front of my while deer hunting.

    A buddy and I hunt in the western Wisconsin full of rolling hills, draws and farm fields. Thus far we have been unsuccessful calling in a coyote. Do you think a morning or night setup would provide the best success? We mainly hunt in February. Any other weather related tips are appreciated. Thanks

    • @InformedOutdoors
      @InformedOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think either would work just as well as the other, but I tend to have more success in the early morning. It's hard to narrow down why you aren't calling in anything. Could be your setup, the calls you're using, all sorts of things. What's your setup like?

    When it’s super dark and you decide to call the coyotes.Then instead of 20-30 second response time,its instant and you have a pack 10 ft away and you ain’t ready .Got to excited and wasn’t set and won’t make that mistake again!

    Is it possible to over call the coyotes? How often should you howl/bark/wine?

    • @InformedOutdoors
      @InformedOutdoors  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is possible, but if you’re calling in a spot more than 45 minutes or so without any coming in then I’d pack it up and move. I would space my sequences out by 15 minutes or so, and let them go for about 5.

    As a new deer hunter coming are going in the woods at night or morning, can coyotes attack humans or are they scared and good?

    • @InformedOutdoors
      @InformedOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Coyote attacks are very rare, and happen mostly in California. They are losing their fear of humans so there is an increased chance of attacks. From 1977 through 2015 (most recent statistic I could find, maybe someone else can find a more recent study) there were 367 attacks. Of that, 165 were in California. If you come across a coyote, just get loud and they'll run away. Most likely it will run away from you long before you even knew it was there. Hope that helps!

      The best way to ruin a coyote hunt is to let him hear, see, or smell you. So, yes, you are safe while walking around.

    • @TheGDizzo
      @TheGDizzo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as I know.. its my understanding the biggest coyotes are like 55 Lbs. Only ones I've ever seen in SoCal have been like 25-35 Lbs though. You're a human. You could literally kick the dog-shit out of a coyote man. And if you're hunting, you got boots, trekking poles, weapon. Also... as a human.. you are loud as shit when you come walking into a place, (compared to everything else) unless you practice and work on how to walk-in more silently. Or where some boot-sneaks. You might even want to give the area you chose to take a sit at some time for everything to quiet back down from you walking in and setting up your caller and all that... and give you time to slowly scan around the area visually and audibly. Before you get ready to begin your calling sequence. And make sure to wear a watch too, so you can time how long you've called and how long to wait in-between callings. And try to stop your eCaller at a natural end to the current call playing, rather than abruptly cutting it off mid-call.

      @RickyAllen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a loaded question bc any animal "can" but personally I've heard of more hunters attacked by deer then coyote and that's very rare. A cpl years ago I was deer hunting and losing light fast. I tied my bow on and started lowering then turned around to climb down and as I get about halfway I hear crashing coming down thru the woods sounded like Santa and his reindeer. It was a pack of coyotes a very good pack. I never get that lucky when going after them. Felt kinda eary walking to truck knowing they were close, but I knew they were more afraid of me bc can you imagine from an animals perspective, we walk upright like a God and no other animal does it. I remember facial expressions a fawn made one time when I walked up on. It shook its head like what the heck is that.
      Coyotes need to be hunted plus it'll make you a better hunter. This happened when guy told deer he wasn't hunting coyote lol th-cam.com/video/LNGGbozilko/w-d-xo.html

      Ricky Allen Exactly Ricky. There's plenty of coyote in my part of Michigan and even some black bear, I don't worry about them. I have come across a couple of big male deer while walking around and they are not afraid of you and do not want you there! You can tell that they're thinking about poking you in the chest with one of their solid bone feet.

    would a red dot sight be better than a scope?

    • @InformedOutdoors
      @InformedOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on the type of terrain you’re hunting in, and what you’re most comfortable with. If all your shots are going to be inside of 150 yards or so, I’d say you could get away with a red dot with a small amount of magnification. For an AR build specifically for predator hunting I would use an LPVO.
