I think that Vanguard Onslaught is a rough matchup conceptually for Tyranids vs. Elite armies, they give up the strength of a horde being able to screen and score for units that have fun little tricks but that aren't nearly tough or killy enough to compete, it's a fun idea, but something like Custodes is the Achilles heel for that detachment
"I'm gonna run a silly list!" Proceeds to run a completely reasonable and competitive list. This gives the same energy as 45 year old moms that say "I'm gonna be a bit naughty" and order a margarita with lunch. lol
I think if a new detachment gives a stratagem for something similar to 'charge/shoot after advance' then praetors + bike captain would be a lot better. The main issue to me is their abilities are all about advance moves, but they don't have assault weapons and there are no ways to give them charge after advancing. It just doesn't fit right. They don't even have the 'vehicle' keyword for free tank shocks.
No you can use it on any unit in reserves, the clarification is that you can use the deep strike rule (9" away ANYWHERE) if you wish. However reserves are about Strategic Reserves as well as deep strike
@@Rejnols is that for any unit in reserves? Thought you had to have the Deep strike key word to RI in the field, or can you point out where they can RI anywhere plzx
This is why I actually do like one Caladius. It can kill something like a Monolith in one turn of shooting but more than likely not. What it will do though is leave it as an easy target for infantry to charge in and finish. Or if your infantry does get into it and leaves it low the Caladius can shoot into engagement and finish it if they do not fall it back. I find having one can make your infantry just so much more threatening to big stuff because of the combo of Caladius plus charge.
The issue is that leaving things weak is bad. You've just spent several hundred points of shooting and effectively did nothing to your opponent. It can still move, shoot, do actions, teleport allies onto it, blah, blah, blah. Yes, you CAN kill it easier now, but because you didn't kill it the first time, you have to shoot it again, charge it, and waste MORE resources on it. 2 Caladius is expensive, but if they both look at something, they kill it. They remove it and anything it could do.
@@DuxDamnatio I get it but I find one has potential to kill a lot of things like Brigands and Rhino’s in one shot. If one of those big targets does survive usually I was in position to charge it and most likely it will not survive the turn to ever shoot or do anything again anyway if I am playing with one. Now you can say well you are having to commit a second unit but I was going to have to commit a second unit anyway before in the shooting phase to kill it. Now I am just putting infantry forward rather than taking a second Grav. Most of the time with how I play my tank it is there to just support my infantry and hold an objective if necessary. It works for me but I may be able to get away with this because of the limited Meta I face.
At that point you might as well just take a knight. A crusader or castellan won't waste your time 'almost' killing it, and it costs about the same as the situation you described.
@shanesmith4170 I would wager its probably because of the meta you're facing. And I might also add, if your opponent is playing super well, you're probably getting to charge those important vehicles because they either want you to or don't care if you charge them because they want the unit elsewhere. Distraction carnifex and all that.
Very true, you do your best to get around it with Rapid Ingress and FLY allowing you to pass over those units. Obviously not possible sometimes, but again gives you a chance to get around it.
It's really annoying that they're just not that great. Their ability to pass over a unit and deal mortal wounds to each model is insane and sounds so good on paper.
Its not a good ability because they can't do anything after that. Can't shoot, can't charge and that is enough to make the ability useless in 9/10 scenarios
Bikes are probably never going to be meta (in 10th at least) but that doesn't change how cool they are, and for beer hammer on Friday night with the boys? I'm here for it, who cares if they aren't the ideal choice
Played my first 1k game of 40k today with Custodes. The bikes came in so well for zooming around the map to secure obj and sticky them!
They look cool = they are good to take 💪🗿👍
Damn straight

It’s always impressive when someone manages to sound both condescending and clueless at the same time. Have a good day :)

Grey knights have a strat to give a unit the assault key word so that not out of the realm of possibility
I feel like bringing one msu with a bike capt is a good utility unit to score secondaries and tag isolated light infantry.
260 points for that, or just take 3x Venatari for 200 or 2x Termies for 130
Please try a wardens and Allarus with axes list.
Hey Mate! how did you rapid ingressed the bikes? they dont have the Deepstrike special Rule. you can only use rapid ingress on units with deepstrike.

With lucky tolls you can probably do good things but with average or somewhat bad you get nothing from a lot of points.
Your mentioned game plan hinges on most armies not being able to screen you out, which most can and do.

Lucky, l have 20 guards and 18 wardens. And 3 MM contemptors.
how do you get a 4+ fnp against Dev wounds when they don't deal mortals
Dataslate released last Tuesday changed our detachment ability to work with dev wounds
Check out balance dataslate
Nope. Imma keep taking my 9 venetari

🤔 hmmm
Wasn’t your game against grey knights actually a draw? 67-72 is 10-10 in WTC points, not 11-9
True, but we were just using VP for this RTT for win path and not WTC scoring.
Bikes are not good. They are fragile and to hard to hide
Yes, but they are fast, firstly, and secondly, their ability is crazy, you can fly over a squad of space marines and destroy 85% squad

Where do the missions come from?
Where can I find them?
