My first thought seeing the tiger-stripe Grimlock concept was that his alt mode would have probably looked a bit like Greymon - before anyone knew what/who Greymon was.
I like the idea of Soundwave as a motorcycle, especially if you want to go with the DJ character type who punishes using sound, could even have his minions become accessories for the bike or even clip on weapons, like the birds become rocket launchers, the robo men become speakers he can use to send giant sound booms off at other bots
That "camera" looks more like something Seaspray would turn into. If it didn't have the lease parts stuck to it I would never know what that was intended to be, it just looks like some kind of boat.
They should definitely release GI Joe line with Ultra Magnus, Hot Rod, Springer, and Arcee just cause that would be a great idea. They did in the past.
my idea of a GI Joe/Transformers crossover line would be scaled down Joes, roughly Human Alliance size, and the Transformers as scaled down Joe vehicles. like a Powerglide as a red rattler plane (There'd be Autobots as Cobra Vehicles and Decepticons as Joe vehicles, and maybe a Grimlock who's a T rex with a turret a Joe can ride in.)
Hasbro is sitting on a gold mine right now, a toy cross over between G.I. Joe and Transformers, basically picture a team up with Transformers Animated Prowl and Snake Eyes they're both badass ninjas and are really good at getting into places un detected, plus a team Flint with Springer, there would be attention brought back to G.I. Joe that and bring in new fans to both toylines.
1992-1993 this was what you had competition with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Teenage Mutant Ninja Turltles X-Men WWF Jurassic Park Batman Mighty Max Micro Machines Starting Lineup
A few Jazz and Soundwave Lazer Cycle figures made it to production, with packaging and instructions. I was actually able to pick up the G2 Jazz on Heritage Auctions a few years back for my "Jazz" figure collection.
The most fascinating g2 cancelled toy for me is Solarbot on the premise that it only exists as a blurb on a card. And who the hell knows whats the deal with why its called Solar bot and its gimmick
First I may try and track me down a modern Mirage and paint him up like that 90's monstrosity. Second, we could have had a camcorder Transformer before R.I.D.s' Laserbeak (Mind you, I loved that concept for an electronics based Transformer that didn't shift its' size between modes.)
They should bring back Spy Changers. Would be neat to just have whole fleats of simple little guys but bigger than Micromasters and not as cartoony as Rescue Bots and actual shoulder swivels.
I loved that Sideswipe so much that I did a repaint of the Earthrise in those colors (with the proposed sunset design on the hood that was only on the proto artwork). I would love to see a lot of these color schemes released as Selects figures, especially the Grimlock, the Mirage, and an official version of the Sideswipe.
Factoring G2 you would take the same mold and give it a new color to the release it. Later we learned you take a new mold when you clean it the colors of the character!
I think most kids in the G2 era would be used to cassette players. I had one then, and didn't know anyone who had CD because those were too expensive for kids until later in the 90s
I remember seeing pictures of that camcorder on eBay a long time ago. It went through a few auction cycles and never had any bids. Probably because it was most likely a scam and they had a starting bid of $1000.
Great video as always. For some reason the grimlock g2 concept (20:16) reminds of the magic school bus (the original not the Netflix reboot) and I don't know why 😭
G2 kinda reminds me of star trek voyager, it was mostly just a 2.0 version of the pervious series at a time when it really needed something to revive the premise. and Voyager had good episodes, just that most people had gotten tired of it by then.
I would have loved to see how they would have G2'd Rook. Don't need to replace him with Takara Groove because the Legends Groove would have been included to represent the G2 one.
I think the checkerboard on the Ramjet repaint was supposed to be some kind of radar scrambler. Check out WW2 Dazzle ships, they did something similar.
Dark Blue Combat Hero Optimus was homaged in that "Ultimate Battle" set (forgot what it was called, but it also had Jazz I think little versions of Thundercracker and Motormaster). Swoop and Sludge would have needed secondary color schemes since G2 Slag and Snarl had alternate releases with greens and reds flipped (not sure if I would count turquoise versus darker blue as a major color variant for Grimlock).
Hello! that remark you said at 17:16 about kids not knowing by G2 what a tape player. I'm from that era. G2 was around 1992-1994 or so, the "walkman" radio still had the cassette feature. As for Transformers and GI JOE until 1994. both realms of products had their popularity waning, and I recall seeing Toys R Us having them by the masses and they didn't pick up that much sales (at least in New Jersey)....Heck I even bought 2 GI JOE defiants in this toys r us in 1993 which had the size of a mini fridge.....the obscure color schemes did seem weird to be honest.....I recall seeing G1 on tv and seeing the g2 stuff just had weird color schemes, from its 8 dollars and desperate reductions to 4 dollars. and to think now they have worth a lot on ebay lol....
The GI Joe and Transformers Crossover comics are some of my absolute favorites. I just want a better Serpentor figure that resembles the idw comic. Honestly more crossovers might be a good way to revive Gi Joe.
also the ones not released could have had a mold problem that happens also.. they make the jeep and it has a weak hinge or something.. and they didn't think it was worth it to fix it.. things like that happen also.
This video was great! G2 is a major blind spot for me, so I was happy to learn so much. I had never even considered hasbro would utilize the gobots molds, but man just for the sake of being the oddity they are, they were fascinating. That said, I would eagerly buy those G2 Dinobots. Those concepts are just incredible.
Just to clarify, Hasbro got the rights to the name Gobots and the characters, but not the molds themselves. What they called Gobots were original molds that all used the same basic engineering.
So In an alternate Universe, there are two Decepticons in Animated named blackout movie based and G1 original cool are there any more, canceled concepts?
Every Cancelled Generation Two Toy, but it's summed up with other TH-cam videos: G2 Menasor/Defensor: th-cam.com/video/saPAQRzbVds/w-d-xo.html G2 Blackout: th-cam.com/video/hpCnHsykHaY/w-d-xo.html G2 Sandstorm: th-cam.com/video/UEzBEexDvSQ/w-d-xo.html Jungle Attack Starscream & Cloud Camo Ramjet: th-cam.com/video/kV43LsyL2VY/w-d-xo.html G2 Crash Test (yes, that's her name), G2 Rumble, G2 Hound, "911", "Black Viper", and "Purple Mercedes": th-cam.com/video/bT9Z5ZVNgZ8/w-d-xo.html "APC Auto Roller", "APC Jet Roller", General Optimus, Sergeant Hound, and the Solarbots: th-cam.com/video/Sgw5IrwDafA/w-d-xo.html Hero Optimus & Megatron redecoes, Laser Cycle Jazz & Soundwave, cancelled & unnamed GI Joe x Transformers G2 figure: th-cam.com/video/eX0eqaGjklY/w-d-xo.html All the other planned G2 redecoes for Sideswipe, Grimlock, Sludge, Swoop, Mirage, and Jazz: th-cam.com/video/ej3Br8PvDjY/w-d-xo.html Camcorder Megatron: th-cam.com/video/emQI4K9Jcyg/w-d-xo.html
I thought GI Joe was doing good again, I just got into the classified series a while ago, and they are actually somewhat difficult to find, they sell out online a lot.
There are like at least 33 countries around the world that use 911 as an emergency number and yes there are military camo construction vehicles.. and just green ones and white ones and sand colored ones.. all kinds of camo colors on all military vehicles - battle, support and construction. We still had tape players and recorders in the 90s. They were prevalent all the way up to the early 2000s. What are you talking about GI Joes and Transformers being popular at the same time? I LIVED in the 1980s... those 2 shows were on at the same time and the toys released at the same time - they were BOTH popular in the 1980s....
I dunno about the "90's kids werent into robots", when most kids watched powerrangers for the megazord. lol
I’d love to see an episode on unicron trilogy prototypes like hot shot, the original Leo breaker, etc.
That G2 Concept of a Mirage repaint is absolutely HIDEOUS!!!!!!!!!
My first thought seeing the tiger-stripe Grimlock concept was that his alt mode would have probably looked a bit like Greymon - before anyone knew what/who Greymon was.
Even better - Transformer cross overs PRIMAL RAGE lol.
It’s funny how so many of these cancelled figures are finally seeing store shelves
And then came the Toxitron Collection...
Fun fact that seeker we'd know latter as Sandstorm, his camo on the original is real and based of the U.S camo that was used in desert storm.
5:41 The modern rendition names G2 Universe Cloudcover has like 8 copies on the shelf at my walmart right now lol
Oh, you could do an episode on Europe only Transformers!
6:40 I believe those types of cars are usually refer to as Le Mans racecars. Usually use for the Le Mans 24 hr race.
Im not sure but I think the reason why mirage wasn’t in g2 is because the mold broke
god i feel like even color blind people can see the colors on G2 toys
As someone thats colorblind, yeah. The colors are intense
90s would be best time for Dinobots combiner...
Legit waiting for a video on Prowl 2: The Squeakquel.
G.I.Joe Classified is actually doing great now, it was dead for a few years after the Retaliation movie and a few years of tru exclusives.
That "camera" looks more like something Seaspray would turn into. If it didn't have the lease parts stuck to it I would never know what that was intended to be, it just looks like some kind of boat.
I like the crayola explosion. :D
The dinobots and mirage bright recolors are pretty intense!
Hasbro saw this 😂
I can't wait for a video about the insanity of the Car Robots/RID timeline. Prowl 2 is only a taste of the madness
Many of these could use a modern update and marketed as Shattered Glass figures. They'd do very well.
Isn't that what we don't want? Lazy cashgrabs
This comment aged like a fine wine!
Really enjoyed this look into canceled g2 toys. I only have a few g2 and only had a couple as a kid mainly combiners and Optimus repaint .
Oooh... black Dragstrip? Yes, please!
Hasbro is sitting on a gold mine right now, a toy cross over between G.I. Joe and Transformers, basically picture a team up with Transformers Animated Prowl and
Snake Eyes they're both badass ninjas and are really good at getting into places un
detected, plus a team Flint with Springer, there would be attention brought back to
G.I. Joe that and bring in new fans to both toylines.
Way ahead of you. I repainted animated prowl black for snake eyes. Animated oilslick is Zartan's bike. I mix them every chance I get.
1992-1993 this was what you had competition with
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turltles
X-Men
WWF
Jurassic Park
Batman
Mighty Max
Micro Machines
Starting Lineup
Amazing!! I really like the G2 color schemes, and this video was highly informative. I look forward to seeing more videos. Thank you.
A few Jazz and Soundwave Lazer Cycle figures made it to production, with packaging and instructions. I was actually able to pick up the G2 Jazz on Heritage Auctions a few years back for my "Jazz" figure collection.
Still got it? I know a few were made, i wonder how many.
The most fascinating g2 cancelled toy for me is Solarbot on the premise that it only exists as a blurb on a card. And who the hell knows whats the deal with why its called Solar bot and its gimmick
Probably was a hope to cash in on the solar racer and make a transforming one that had some sort of plating to recreate the effect of a solar panel
First I may try and track me down a modern Mirage and paint him up like that 90's monstrosity. Second, we could have had a camcorder Transformer before R.I.D.s' Laserbeak (Mind you, I loved that concept for an electronics based Transformer that didn't shift its' size between modes.)
Laserbeak was Armada not RID
3:55 Selects got ya covered.
2:56 Selects potential #1
They should bring back Spy Changers. Would be neat to just have whole fleats of simple little guys but bigger than Micromasters and not as cartoony as Rescue Bots and actual shoulder swivels.
7:20 those cars are lemans prototype cars
"Dome Racer" GT Prototype or sometimes called Le Mans Prototype
The "domeracers" are called Le Mans Prototypes.
Really funny how Blaster, the boombox, did made it into G2, a 90s toyline.
So, how do you feel about everything today? 😂
Some third party or 3D printer person should make these unreleased designs. The jeep gobot would be really easy
Factoring G2 you would take the same mold and give it a new color to the release it.
Later we learned you take a new mold when you clean it the colors of the character!
now thru the magic of the cybernetics space cube. the computer enhanced versions of transformers.. transformers generation 2
Sigma 6 joes were way later than late 90’s early 2000’s
Guess Mirage was working on his Ex-Aid cosplay.
it sucks that we didn't get G2 Sludge, i wonder why they have to Cancel Them?? i do like to see G2 Menasor and Defensor
Can you do part 2 with the European G2 unreleased like you mentioned. I didn't see sunset sideswipe.
6:31 This type of car is either a LMP1 or LMP2 racing car. It stands for Le Mans Prototype.
That Grimlock looks gooooood…
CAMCORDER MEGATON SHOULDVE BEEN PERCEPTOR. IT WOULDVE MADE MORE SENSE
The Jeep transformer looks like The Halk
A cartoon for g2 would have helped
Power rangers was hot and tmnt was dying slowly starting in 93
7:48 Selects potential #5? Redecoed from SS86: Hot Rod?
Great video as always. For some reason the grimlock g2 concept (20:16) reminds of the magic school bus (the original not the Netflix reboot) and I don't know why 😭
Greymon from Digimon
Wanted to come back to this video just to comment on Studio Series Redeco Grimlock in this scheme. Congratulations, you're a prophet.
The weirdest thing of that acid trip called Menasor and Defensor is finally Hot Spot as a red firetruck.
G2 kinda reminds me of star trek voyager, it was mostly just a 2.0 version of the pervious series at a time when it really needed something to revive the premise. and Voyager had good episodes, just that most people had gotten tired of it by then.
That Jeep GoBot was actually confirmed to be Hound at a later date. A painted prototype surfaced with tampographs reading "Hound"
I remember the club said they tried to release that blue hero Optimus Prime, but could not get the mold.
Hasbro honestly should have given us a CW G2 Defensor. Especially that the original G2 First Aid has GPS problems while being rare.
I would have loved to see how they would have G2'd Rook. Don't need to replace him with Takara Groove because the Legends Groove would have been included to represent the G2 one.
That black and green camo is supposed to be skywarp apparently. And yk the blue one who is cloudchaser
just learned from watching this that growing up i owned a ko g2 roadblock that i eventually destroyed from overuse
their was a G2 Soundwave, he was a yellow stockcar with blue graphics in the 1995 Go-bots line
I love the sky camo seeker; wish we got that as a repaint.
19:55 I know they probably won’t, but I hope Hasbro will release something like this in Legacy!
I think the checkerboard on the Ramjet repaint was supposed to be some kind of radar scrambler. Check out WW2 Dazzle ships, they did something similar.
16:00 - That Jazz has straight up John Deere tractor colors. Maybe they were trying to appeal to corn-shucking Midwesterners.
Gen two was so lame to me, I used to have that purple megatron figure that says MEGATRON RULES, no wonder I was a power rangers kid
I like the original G2 molds, but every G1 repaint was a step backward in respect to the original.
Hello! that remark you said at 17:16 about kids not knowing by G2 what a tape player. I'm from that era. G2 was around 1992-1994 or so, the "walkman" radio still had the cassette feature. The blue Seeker I would call Ice Storm and the tan one Sandstorm.
What an awesome video never knew about these toys glad to have watched it I'm going share this with my brother who's a big transformers fan
The GI Joe and Transformers Crossover comics are some of my absolute favorites. I just want a better Serpentor figure that resembles the idw comic. Honestly more crossovers might be a good way to revive Gi Joe.
4:44 Selects potential #2
I’m actually interested in getting the combiner wars version of the G2 Menasor.
Former SeaBee camo painted construction vehicles were a thing in 2007
also the ones not released could have had a mold problem that happens also.. they make the jeep and it has a weak hinge or something.. and they didn't think it was worth it to fix it.. things like that happen also.
Toy engineering in every TF characters back in the day was not really good and accurate. But how we love to own them classics, nonetheless.
19:51 BW Dinobot? That’s straight up Greymon colors
This video was great! G2 is a major blind spot for me, so I was happy to learn so much. I had never even considered hasbro would utilize the gobots molds, but man just for the sake of being the oddity they are, they were fascinating. That said, I would eagerly buy those G2 Dinobots. Just to clarify, Hasbro got the rights to the name Gobots and the characters, but not the molds themselves. What they called Gobots were original molds that all used the same basic engineering.
@@TJOmega oh I see, thank you for the clarification. that makes me wonder where the ownership of the rocklords or the gobots animated series remains.
This is great, thank you!
Might wanna check out Generation 2 Greasepit
Honestly, Autolauncher would have been the best choice to be an Autoroller Prime. He’s got a very Prime like head and an APC is a fitting alt mode
honestly I feel like that G2 Jazz bike deco would look really good if you put it on his car altmode
So In an alternate Universe, there are two Decepticons in Animated named blackout movie based and G1 original cool are there any more, canceled concepts?
I honestly don’t really understand why they canceled these they look great even though some of them are a chaos of colours
That cancelled Grimlock reminds me of Greymon.
For the sandy camouflage one i call it dust devil
Props on getting my username right! You might actually be shocked how wrong some people pronounce that. lol
So if the g2 comics continued they was gonna bring back mirage- hotspot- frenzy- ramjet- and Ironhide and a few others
I came up with a name for the sky camouflage seeker i call it cloudburst
The g2 grimlock is so cool and now my wheelie can ride upon him .
He will be coming out next year.
the purple mensor looks cool but that defensor omg
How have we not gotten an earthrise blackout on hasbro pulse yet? Who doesn’t want more seekers

Don't worry G2 Greasepit, I still remember you
I thought GI Joe was doing good again, I just got into the classified series a while ago, and they are actually somewhat difficult to find, they sell out online a lot.

So many Seekers can be made from the G1 Starscream toy. Various wing designs could have been made. Starscream would finally have had his true armada.
